Lawrence Timmons restructures contract

"Dead money" = money that will be charged vs the 2016 cap regardless of whether he plays for us or not.

uh, care to explain that?

Are you making a wild accusation that Timmons will not be on the team in 2016? That's the only reason it would be considered "dead money", otherwise it's just part of his cap cost.

I think he's talking about the guaranteed money Timmons will be earning in 2016 regardless of whether or not he is on the team. This is the dead money potential that would be generated against the cap if Timmons would be cut next year. If Timmons is on the team, it will simply be salary and pro-rated cap money counting against the cap.

I wasn't trying to be obtuse.

His contract next year has a 6million cap charge now that cannot be avoided. Proration, whatever you want to call it, that money is a now sunk cost. I'm sure he will get a new deal of some kind which will drop his 2016 cap number to the 10M range. That will likely place him among the top 5 ILB yet again vs the cap and will be less money we have available for other players. I'm not his biggest fan but at least he didn't flame out like Woodley. But we seem to spend an awful lot on ILB for a 3/4 team.
