Kyler Murray. Top college quarterback. How will he do in the NFL? Buy or sell?

I'll say this though, if i was a team without a QB, I would not be afraid of drafting a bust. If you do, you just move on. 10 years ago, being wrong on a 1st round QB would set you back years and if he was a top 5 pick it would screw your cap for years.

Guys like Stafford and Bradford were the highest paid guys in the NFL before they took a snap. You had to be damn sure on a guy to draft him high.

But now that they have the rookie cap, it's just a blip on the radar if a guy is a bust. Arizona drafted Rosen last year and cap-wise they can afford to draft another QB this year in the 1st if they don't like Rosen.

I would never draft Murray, but I can understand a team being aggressive and taking a chance.

I don't like Haskins either. He's not a QB. He's a thrower. He does have a great arm and can make all the throws but I don't think he's a pressure player.

As you said the money isn't the issue but the talent still is. So if you draft 2 bust QBs at the top of the draft then you are missing out on finding more talent at other positions. I know you can't win without a QB but to me Murray and Haskins aren't NFL Qbs. I didn't like Rosen last year but I understand teams are going to take a shot.

Murray measured at 5'10 1/4 ", which was about what we thought. His arm length at 28 1/2 is very short. I'm not sure if any QB in the NFL has arms that short. I'd guess no. Now you wonder if he can be an NFL pocket passer on short drops. His release points several inches lower than the other quarterbacks, and with that height, he might have issues seeing over the much taller offensive linemen.

Muarry is not planning to throw at the combine ( so I read ) when he should be doing it to show off what most think is a strong arm.

If he had 10 more games as a starter, I think he would be picked higher. Now he's a gamble. I pay no attention to his weight. Guys often eat and drink water to put on pounds for their weigh in.

Stock down. We want him to be picked early to push a player at a need area down.

I think there is a 1 inch differential there.

Wilson is built like a running back, he's a much thicker man. He's built for football and getting hit. Muarry, not so much

Im buying..

This is the direction NFL offenses are moving to...

The Ravens have created a solid footprint on how to create an effective offensive scheme around athletes with Murray's type of skill sets..,,

The NFL is no longer working under the premise that you need the typical pocket QB to win in the league...

Just saw the update from NFL.com that many believe Murray is going #1 overall to Arizona.

If I'm a GM, no way do I give 20+ million for 4-5 years to a mid level QB in his second contract, I'd rather draft a QB in round one, and spend the 20+ million elsewhere.

Haskins ran poorly ( 5.04 40 yard dash ) and didn't jump well either. He's going to need to show an arm and accuracy, which he did in college at the combine / pro day. If I had to choose between him and Murray, I'd pick Haskins. At least Haskins did it in the big ten. Wish he had more than 20 starts.

I think they will push both up, because of a weak class. Which is good for us if both go before 20.

I hope Drew Lock goes before pick #20 too. My hunch is either the Giants, Dolphins, or Jaguars pick him. Lock had a good senior bowl and is doing well on the combine drills that were reported on nfl.com. 4.69 is good speed for a QB nearly 6'4" tall and 230 pounds.

Yeah that would be good too. Cross your fingers.

Agreed.
Alabama abused him. Things will only be more rough in the nfl

I've heard this same spiel for 30 years. I remember runners like Cunningham were going to revolutionize the sport. Kordell was athletic and was going to revolutionize the sport. Vick was going to do the same thing. None of them won a damn thing. Jackson in Baltimore hasn't won anything. It's a gimmick that was figured out in the playoffs when they had to play the Chargers again.

Murray is one of many QBs that had an easy time in college because he had wide open WRs and the best OL in college. He can run. But as much as people want the NFL to be a running QB league it just is never going to be. Look at the Qbs in the super bowl. I know the argument... just wait it will happen...I've been waiting 30+ years and still nothing.

Vader, I hear yah. The runnng QB is a flash in the pan, then hurt. Defenses are just to hard on them but the rules are getting / leaning that way so yah never know.

Salute the nation
