Kovacevic: Is Mike Tomlin right to lead Steelers into future? ?

If Tomlin was fired (which he won’t be), does anyone think another team would hire him as HC?? Not a chance. Every other teams knows he’s a likable guy who road coattails to early success...

Think what you want about Tomlin, he'd get another HC gig in a heartbeat.

I think it is the level of involvement there. Which we unfortunately don't know the true extent.

I would be ok with Butler getting the ax only if it was just his hands in the defense.

But is it? And then I think about the challenges not knowing when to challenge and when not to.

So much stupid floating around for me not to end up back at the HC.
Butler is Tomlin’s errand boy. Art Le Deuce should have never given Tomlin a contract deal without a condition fulfilled first. No corporate environment rewards mediocrity. Now, the franchise QB who has been carrying Tomlin's shortcomings on his back, could be lost for an undetermined period if not the season. Tomlin will now be expected to prepare a team that will rally around the young backup but Tomlin will still make the same coaching errors and worse without a Ben Roethlisberger’s experience to cover it up. Going for two with over 11 mins in the half and not calling a T/O in the final minute?? Seriously coach, Pop Warner coaches don’t make those mistakes! We haven’t even talked about personnel issues or discipline. What happened to the O Line run blocking? I thought Mike Munchalk’s assistant guaranteed not missing a step? And finally, one name; Dante “hands like feet” Montcrief?
At this point wit 14 games left, those of us on blood pressure and or heart meds better stock up. Or better yet, watch paint dry.

No he wouldn't. Everyone in the league knows this is Tomlin's defense, you can trace it back to Minnesota and Tampa before that. Yet we keep seeing the same exact lapses in execution. We have NO identity on either side of the ball, we have no real game plan, and we never adapt to what the other team is doing or adjustments they make. His leadership allowed the AB, Ben, Bell, Harrison, and Polamalu issues to come to a head because of his poor communication and leadership. He continues to find scapegoats to absolve himself of any responsibility. This team has gotten worse with each passing year, especially on defense. This team needs strong leadership, that is NOT his strong point. Maybe if Bellicheat retires he could take over the Pats and lead them to a SB next year.

If he has a HOF QB, great offense and great defense.. he could maybe get another SB elsewhere but without that he would exposed very quickly for what he is, not HC material.

Karma is a *****

Rooneys and the front office got what they deserve for keeping Tomlin and sabotaging a once great team.
Feel bad for Ben. He deserves a better ending.
Oh well

If the clueless one had a clue, he'd realize that he has been most fortunate, and quietly disappear into the woodwork to await the call from Canton.

I keed. I keed. About Canton.

He should have been fired after the Tim Tebow debacle. This team needs new blood. Don't let him ruin another QBs career.

And if not then, the later Ryan Mallett, Mike Glennon, Blake Bortles, and Jon Gruden debacles would have worked too.

The local media and fans really need to put it to Rooney...change is needed and now is the perfect time.

Was it my imagination or were there way too many yellow (empty) seats yesterday, for a home opener? Seems like fans are already showing their apathy....

People were walking out with the game still winnable...that says a lot about the fans resignation that the team is done.

I doubt I'm the only one that's had apathy for this team for a while. I left when they brought in Michael Vick and I have yet to come back to the level I was before that. Not even close. How long ago was that now? 5 years? Feels like 5 years, that's for sure.

Great. I hope he takes a team in the AFC North, so that the new Steelers coaches can exploit his stupidity and inability/refusal, ever, to alter an approach or adjust if something is not working.

I am late to this party.
I always wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to Coach Tomlin.
He was selected by The Rooney family as only the third Head Coach since 1970.
Surely they saw something in him.
Surely he must be special due to his meteoric rise after only one year as a DC.

We are a spoiled franchise.
We expect the SB every year and are embarrassingly disappointed when it doesn't happen.
Our Browns/Lions/Dolphins/Raiders like years are few and far between.
Even when we had Tommy Maddox, Kent Graham, Kordell Stewart, Bubby Brister, Mike Tomczak, etc., we were still competitive and showed up.

01/14/2018.
This is the date I knew drastic changes were needed.
This is the date we lost to a Blake Bortles led Jaguars team.
A date that we hung 42 points on the far and away number one defense in the NFL, but surrendered 45 points to their anemic offense.
And drastic changes come.
Todd Haley gets fired, but Keith Butler keeps his job. ( insert blank stare here ).
I didn't understand that then, and I still don't understand it now.

I understand that sometimes coaches are ALL X's and O's. Robots. No emotion. ALL football, ALL the time.
Sometimes coaches are more motivators than teachers. They get the most out of sub-par talent because they inspire their players.
Sadly, Tomlin is neither of these things.
We don't get to see/hear/know the behind the scenes stuff.
We only see the product on the field and can only use that as a template.
And our on-field product severely lacks right now.
The decision making severely lacks right now.
The playcalling severely lacks right now.
In game/mid-game adjustments severely lack right now.
Passion from the players severely lacks right now.

We looked downright comatose yesterday on both sides of the ball until Rudolph came in.
His "OH MY GOD IT'S MY FIRST REAL NFL ACTION" excitement got the offense going ( except Moncrief ), and even the defense a little bit.
It's too bad that excited energy didn't translate to the coaches, who once again were just going through the motions.
I didn't want to put this in print. I secretly hoped I'd never have to because I know that all the credit/blame should never be pinned to one single person in a team sport ( Ben doesn't win/lose games by himself, Artie Burns isn't the reason we lost a game, JuJu isn't the reason we won, etc ).
But it is CLEAR and EVIDENT that our team lacks leadership. Our team lacks discipline. Our team lacks motivation. And our team lacks the proper coaching/technique/playcalling that we need to win.
These are ALL reflections of the Head Coach.

Thank you for your 13 years of service.
Thank you for two SB appearances and one Lombardi.
But as a great TEACHER once said, it's time to move on with your life's work.

Art Rooney II does not agree with this message.

If he can get this team, right now, to 8-8 then he's not a bad coach

If he can't, he's gone

That sounds like a bet

Me too but I didn't know at that time that he had instigated that. After pondering it, it makes perfect sense, of course he brought Vick the Dick with all of his baggage, to the Steelers.

Who was the sportswriter years ago in Pittsburgh who said Lloyd could visit a hundred children's hospitals and still be a despicable human being?

Tomlin could have 13 non-losing football seasons and still be a mediocre HC with low football IQ when it matters.

I fear that people are in the bargaining stage of grief about the inevitability of Tomlin retaining his job.

Shades should have been done fired!

I have always hated that about fans. I understand leaving early to beat traffic. Even though I still refuse to do so I understand it.

But that is where the buck stops. Give your tickets to someone who isn't so quick to jump ship. As we have plenty of loyal fans let them experience a game.

I’m with you that was he Day I stopped being a fan of this team. I love the previous teams and hate the organization now. Now I watch so much football around the league really enjoy and love watching the Steelers suck dick. The start of this season has been great , might even be better than watching them choke away the playoffs last year. Had my wAgner jersey on Sunday cheering the **** out of limp elbow miss pass after pass

So those 6SBs mean nothing to you huh? Countless of non losing seasons mean nothing huh?

Has the team under-performed? sure.

But some of you fickle fans make me SMH.
