Ju Ju signs with Steelers

Nice summation Tibs. Details are sketchy but Simmons never got a pro-day (COVID) when he declared. Don’t believe he got a Combine invite either and went undrafted, made the practice squad and the got released when HOU signed a couple of receivers. He didn't sign with any team afterwards, possibly due to either getting COVID or opting out. So he’s basically a new player but had some good tape in college. UGA had a several receivers come out at the same time with more film (Godwin/Ridley/Hardman) so Simmons got over shadowed. Really could be a sleeper, a better Ray Ray McCloud possibly.
Not to be "That Guy", because I don't know anything at all about Tyler Simmons other than what I read in this one article. The article paints a picture of an incomplete receiver who has good and bad tendencies. He was the fourth receiver option on UGA's 2019 team, had about a 56% catch rate, dropped as many passes as were overthrown to him by the QB (4 each by the author's count) .... and had fumbling problems as a punt returner.
As usual, I hope he pans out to be more than what I expect. What I expect is not so much a better Ray Ray, but another camp body.

Also wonder if it is guaranteed. I know I would want it all upfront instead of a weekly paycheck. Maybe even some incentives that would give him a little more but won't hit the cap until next year.

More likely than not, the STEELERS and JuJu have an un said (under the table) nice deal for next year cap.

The kid isn't as foolish as I thought...

Actually looking at the big picture..

He plays on one of the most recognizable franchises in sports and understands he is very marketable to basically every demographic..

Kid could make big bucks locally and nationally with big tech and corporate sponsors if he stays relevant in the NFL..
I agree. He will the one of the top profiles for Disney and Nickelodeon. He goes to the Jets, he will get forgotten.

It's guaranteed, 7m signing bonus, 1m salary.

I get that but i meant next season not this season. I'm sure that JuJu signed this contract knowing the "cap" blite but next year 2022 I'd bet they have an understanding the team WILL PAY HIM HANDSOMELY. All good

Lol Buckeye, you are nowhere near “that guy” status with Simmons. He’s basically another Ray Ray McCloud (developmental), but maybe with more upside. Since I live in SEC/ACC land all those games are available to watch. Most of the SEC teams are stacked and there are a lot of college players that aren’t mentioned by the national press, but are good players. I mostly remember him by that atrocious offside call in the SEC championship, but he had some good moments as a receiver. Buried behind some pretty good receivers, he was always a 4/5 receiver. as for his return capability, what college returner doesn’t have his share of fumbles? Ray Ray has that problem as well. I just agree with Tibs notion Colbert and his crew always seems to find football players.

No doubt, Buckeye, this kid is unproven as can be. The fact that he wasn't drafted speaks volumes, and he couldn't stick on the Texans roster. It's a shot in the dark.... but I still like our chances with the Steelers somehow plucking out gem WR's from among the thistles.

And on that note, I'm also reminded of the fact WR Anthony Johnson out of Buffalo is still on our roster. Big kid at 6-2, if you go back to the draft that year, he was consistently ranked in the top 20 or so WR's with a 3rd ground grade. Got lost in the shuffle and has been mighty quiet on the PS, but there's another WR I think the coaches are keeping an eye on.

You guys make some valid points. Back to JuJu though. I was reading an article by Chris Carter over at DK's site where he states that JuJu, specifically resigning him, doesn't help the run game. I disagree with that. As a matter of fact, the more I think about it, there's no doubt that JuJu has been our best blocking WR over the last few years. Not saying that's "THE" reason to resign him. However, it is definitely one part of the whole picture when making that decision.

I'm not ******** on it. Its a great deal for both parties. kind of a win win. But people are attaching things all the time in sports like loyalty this and that and it even gets marketed by the player like that "Pittsburgh- I got your back". Here is the reality. These guys are all independent contractors. Juju's agent went out to look for a long term deal. He wasn't getting what he wanted because the market is soft and he had an injured year in 2019 and a ball distributed year in 2020. When he couldn't get what he wanted he stayed in Pittsburgh because it was better than the other options he had on a one year somewhere else (which does say something). The way the contract was amortized is completely irrelevant to him. He gets his salary either way and he is just as much a free agent in 2022. Its business pure and simple.

You're not ******** on it, then go on to completely **** on it with claims you can't back up... Are you telling me that KC who offered the same with more incentives wasn't a more attractive offer?

The market might be soft, but it's not because Juju isn't worth it, it's soft because the cap dropped 20m and not very many teams have the money to spend.

Teams know it, agents know it, that's why you're going to see A LOT of one year deals.

In going back and studying Simmons, there’s definitely some promise there. He’s getting better speed and agility than his body type might indicate and he’s very physical. Georgia loves to run the football and Simmons was a willing blocker which meshes well with what the Steelers ask of their receivers.

Ravens offer was significantly more than the Steelers. $13 million, I believe with incentives, per Rapoport. He took a steep discount.

It also pushes the need for a receiver off for another year. Unlike some, I wasn’t sold on James Washington being an impact player at receiver.

Look I'm super happy he signed a one year deal with the Steelers. Just a whole lot of you put some kinda male soap **** to all of this. Oh this guy is loyal and this guy is a douche. People shat on Juju for the social media thing endlessly and talked themselves into being happy that he was leaving and then suddenly do a 180 Flip because he took a 1 year. Juju did what was best for Juju. Maybe he enjoys his team mates. Maybe he didn't want to bother uprooting for one year when he couldn't get what he wanted. Maybe he will sign a long term deal next year. Maybe the Steelers won't make a competitive offer because they will feel their room is good enough. But in the end its Team Juju that matters most to Juju. Its business. That's the way it should be.

In the end your putting your feelings on the situation as fact. State it's your opinion, because it's nothing more than that. You weren't in the room with colbert and juju either.

What we do know for fact, all off season juju said he wanted to stay, and he did.

I understand your fan boy feelings Insaniti. Juju graced us with his greatness. HE WANTS TO BE IN PITTSBURGH. I just see him as an 8 million dollar pass catcher at a position they probably could have gotten by without him. Am I unhappy they brought him back. No. I like Juju. They did kick some more dead money down the road, but whatever. If you are bringing back Ben (A mistake in my mind), you might as well give him maximum tools.

I don’t love the move, and I don’t hate it either.

JuJu's wanting to stay in PITTSBURGH comment was a two fold statement. It was said to try and drive his price up and also to give him a fall back plan should he fail in Free Agentcy. Make no mistake that this is a business as JuJu proved that with his brand building on the dancing fiascal, he knew all along it was creating conflict wich lead to more subscribers. His stay in PITTSBURGH convinced those followers he is a loyal home-town kid creating more loyalty for his brand.

I'm glad he is here but he is here a part of actual loyalty but also a part of good business-man.

I'm still having some tech issues with the new site like finding how to like a post. But I give this one 4 likes. EXACTLY. Juju is a businessman and this was his best long term business option in trying to get his long term dream deal. Am I happy he will be in black and gold in 2021? Well if we are going with Ben. Sure. But am I giving to his charity because he graced us? Give me a ****** break.

And that's just smart. From the time I started my business, I was in a vendor Co-Op. Their membership fees for vendors increased last year and I had to reassess how much business being a member was actually bringing in. That assessment included how many customers cited the Co-Op as a reason or way that they were introduced to my business. I would have loved to have stayed loyal to that Co-Op because I started out with them. In the end, taking pros and cons into account, I had to move on. Point being: Loyalty in business is a great thing. When you can afford it and/or when it benefits you in some other way.

Go ahead, label me a fan boy if you want. Doesn't change your OPINION into fact. Also doesn't change that Juju is with us for at least another year when all we heard since the season ended was "no way he is coming back ""he's as good as gone" "good riddance" "him saying he wants to stay in Pittsburgh is just lip service ".

And now he signs a cap friendly deal to stay (and I'm betting he signs an extension next year for more) and it's all just business. Juju is only about Juju. All because you old fuddy duddy's don't like his social media.

I look on the field, he's productive, he does what is asked and never complained (he sure did block A LOT for Johnson and Claypool), celebrates WITH his team even if he wasn't the one who made the play. His attitude is the EXACT opposite of the man everyone is accusing him of becoming...

So call me names, proclaim your greatness with your amazing ability to know things just because, you're falling into the same category as coach in my book.

I don't give two ***** about Juju's social media when it isn't a game day thing or it doesn't create a negative for the team. He has not been bad about the second one. But the dances on logos was ****** stupid. But all that aside. His play is a commodity. He had an great rookie campaign and a second year that had him tabbed as one. His last two years have not been great and teams were unsure if he was a one or not. He came back on a prove it contract for whatever reasons were important too him. Do you want them to give him one money of he has another season like last? If he has the exact season he had last year, I'd like you to go on record with how much you think they should give him in a long term deal.
