Ju Ju signs with Steelers

That's what you call loyalty, something that's become nearly extinct in professional sports.

I’m hearing JuJu Smith-Schuster wanted to stay in Pittsburgh all along. Even with the other deals. Sounds like his agent was pressing him to take the higher deal. That’s the agents job and JuJu decided he wanted Pittsburgh still. #Steelers @RenegadeBlitz

The kid isn't as foolish as I thought...

Actually looking at the big picture..

He plays on one of the most recognizable franchises in sports and understands he is very marketable to basically every demographic..

Kid could make big bucks locally and nationally with big tech and corporate sponsors if he stays relevant in the NFL..

Love the toughness and grit JuJu brings to this offense, especially on 3rd downs.

I think he just gained a lot of new fans for turning down more money and staying in the Burgh.

Bless ya JuJu, glad to have you back onboard!
Remember your convo about Ben not influencing anyone to stay? Just maybe this is your huckleberry.

The surprising part here is he could have gone to KC and made that O a ton better and he would have instantly had a chance to win a ring. Glad he's back even if only for a year.

Also wonder if it is guaranteed. I know I would want it all upfront instead of a weekly paycheck. Maybe even some incentives that would give him a little more but won't hit the cap until next year.

We may get him in camp and sign a new long term contract under the lower cap year? Not sure how that works, but you can bet that the front office is excited to get him locked down long-term, ASAP.

Welcome home Juju. Stay a while.

Not bad tape on this guy. And it’s in the SEC too. Who the hell is this guy Tibs?

Not to distract from JuJu's big day... but this kid may be a nice find.

Not sure what his story is, but Colbert seems to love him. Things didn't go too well for him last year, no pro day, went undrafted, ended up signing UDFA deal with Texans. Looks like he was a priority undrafted guy getting multiple offers after the draft. Dug up this article on him, seems like a good fit with OC Canada, with the jet sweeps et al. Also can help out on ST. The one area I blindly trust with the Steelers is unearthing little known WR's. Hope this is another one.

At 6-foot, 201 pounds, Simmons is a big, productive receiver and returner. He’s run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and has proved dangerous on reverses and jet sweeps.
“They’re going to get a relentless team-first guy, somebody who’s great in the locker room and always optimistic about things and doing what it takes to help the team,” Simmons said. “I just put it all on the line every time I step on the field. I can do anything from running the football on reverses to catching the ball to covering punts or catching punts. I’m a pretty versatile athlete. I can do everything.”

Damn, JuJu helping the team in every which way.

Holy smokes, is this real?

JuJu Smith-Schuster's one-year contract with the #Steelers includes a $7 million signing bonus, a $1 million base salary and four voidable years, lowering his 2021 cap number to $1.6M. Making it work for cap-strapped Pittsburgh.

If so, then the notion they're moving on from Steven Nelson may not be purely financially related.

I would like to know too and if true people can shut the **** up about him. I always liked the kid he produces. Didn't care for the dancing on the logo **** but he stopped so right there that negativity for me flew out the window. The guy is a guy that can catch the annoying before the chain passes and more often than not make them into first downs. I like the physical part of his game that is Steelers football.

This is great news. And clearly indicates a long term desire to work with the team.
This sets him up to be a long term solution if this season works out.
Class move all around!

Surprising, and great to have JuJu back for that price.

Color me shocked as well - I really thought Juju was gone. I respect him a lot for his decision...
Not totally surprised. Kid makes good $$ on national level endorsements. I'd bet a few things happened:
1. A promise to work out something more lucrative next year.
2. He does really like it in Pittsburgh
3. His agent realized what a bonanza in local endorsements his client could possibly reap by turning down these other offers, staying in Pittsburgh and becoming know as "loyal" to the team.
4. I think I remember during last season JuJu's mom said she'd prefer he didn't leave Pittsburgh. (I think what his mom wants means something to that kid).

I'm shocked. It's hard not to respect someone that takes a lot less money than they could have gotten somewhere else. I would like to think I'm that kind of person. I just need someone to make me an offer. I might have to franchise him in my fantasy league just out of principle. I wish Ben & Bud would have signed for a burger. To the TikTok we don't stop.

If he backs it up that statement we got an athletic Hines ver 2.0
Being a huge UGA fan I hope he backs it up...good luck cracking the roster kid

Nice summation Tibs. Details are sketchy but Simmons never got a pro-day (COVID) when he declared. Don’t believe he got a Combine invite either and went undrafted, made the practice squad and the got released when HOU signed a couple of receivers. He didn't sign with any team afterwards, possibly due to either getting COVID or opting out. So he’s basically a new player but had some good tape in college. UGA had a several receivers come out at the same time with more film (Godwin/Ridley/Hardman) so Simmons got over shadowed. Really could be a sleeper, a better Ray Ray McCloud possibly.

Love JuJu thought he was a goner. Taking 1 million less to play for the Steelers vrs the Ravens to me is a no brainer. that is perhaps 100 catches with us and 30 catches and 300 blocks with the Ravens.
