Joey Porter OUT

Not exactly Peezy's fault they draft a lot of turds.

The only one might be Karl Dunbar...but I dont believe so, he just signed a contact this season I believe?

Partially it is, since as LB coach he would have plenty of input when merging notes with Colbert's team. As far as I know the coaching staff plays a big role in player evaluations, and subsequently the stacking of players on the draft board. To put it another way, I doubt any LB the Steelers picked these past few years weren't highly graded by Porter and Olsavsky, along with Butler and Tomlin.

So I don't think it's accurate to suggest that Porter had no role or say in the LB draft picks. For whatever it's worth.

I don't think it will be Butler. Maybe Bradley the defensive backs coaches although only on the job one year. Possibly Dunbar the defensive line coach could be one. I'm leaning more toward Danny Boy Smith special teams coach whose unit had most penalties of any special team unit in the NFL.

Porter should have been fired 2 years ago after that CarsonStreet bar bullshit.

As long as we hire that 'special assistant' we had for the Pats game, we're in better shape than we were. Writing was on the wall anyway. You bring in a special assistant, your coaches aren't preparing your players correctly.

Bye Joey, excellent OLB, below average OLBC

I know he takes blame for Uncle Jarvis and Buddy DuPree...but does he get the credit for Watt?

Uncle Jarvis flat out stunk but I think Bud is getting better and expect him back in 2019 and think if coached up and not set-up to fail with a poor scheme, I think he'll get better.

Actually good coaching could improve Dupree significantly. He does get to the QB quickly, he just goes by and doesn't get the sack that often.

In lieu of firing him, I'd consider demoting Butler back to LB coach, he was excellent on that level. Bring in a new D coordinator from the outside and force Tomlin to give him full reigns of the D. The new DC can decide the fate of Dunbar, Bradley and others.

There's no doubt Special Teams needs a complete overhaul, I'd be shocked if Danny Smith - and all of his bubble gum wrappers - survive the bloodletting.

If I was Tomlin/Colbert/Rooney I'd also consider swapping out the entire strength & conditioning team. Those guys spend a lot of time w players, may have gotten too cozy and comfortable over the years. I think a new S&C coaching staff would help raise the bar a little and get everyone back on level footing, as far as veterans and rookies, stars and backups.

Or something like that...

Hadn't considered that Tibs with demoting Butler back to LB coach which I think he'e better suited for but would he be on board with that? I guess if not you show him the door.

Maybe that ex Giant LB coach made a good impression, and that is what they plan on doing for their off-season changes.

I feel sick..............

We have a winner. I was impressed with the defense for the New England game. Porter was an excellent player, but as a coach he wasn't very mature. This is just window dressing, nothing will chance unless Tomlin goes.

They can cut him and be on the hook for nothing. Otherwise, he’s gonna earn over 9mil. I sure as hell hope they cut him.

I think they'll offer him a multi-year contract averaging 5M

I'm pretty sure they can get more production for 9 million then what he brings.
Thanks for the linebacking play Joey and I will always remember the Jerry Porter incident in Cincinnati. Other than that......... thanks for coming out.

Excellent. Glad they found the root of all their problems... the LB coach.

That's a waste too, the guy sucks in coverage, sucks vs the run, and has a hard time tackling a QB when he's got a clear shot at him. Time to move on from another wasted first round defensive pick.

it's not what I want but what I think will happen

Tibs mentioned how it might be a good idea to replace the strength and conditioning coach/crew. I totally agree. I was seeing players sucking wind after just a few plays. Would also help with things like you know TACKLING. Far too many times did they try to knock a guy off his feet rather than wrapping him up.

Yeah, I think you are correct, unfortunately.

as long as they draft an OLB in the first 3 rounds I'm ok keeping Dupree on a contract like that, little guaranteed money after the 1st year

the tackling issue should fall on Tomlin, I know I've heard Hoke on the Fan say when he played under Cowher, they'd go over tackling technique constantly.
