Jesus Christ how does this turn into a Tomlin/Colbert thread. The guy doesn't want to play anymore.
I'll start something new. maybe these players don't like playing for Tomlin. We have over the hill guys that would love to go to Titans, we know who is there, we have players running to Pittsburgh West in Arizona . We now have guys that have played five years saying pursue new interests. Maybe the writing is getting bigger in Pittsburgh. The best to Jason but who saw this in the wind.
What makes you think its got to do with dedication and heart ? Players from the past like McMahon, Seau, Watters etc deal or dealt with concussion issues that affected their lives severely after their careers. MJD just left the game a few weeks back...........Jake Locker ...........perhaps these players are more diversified in their skillset and wish to have the ability after their careers to LEAD NORMAL lives and not rely on instructions on how to get back home written on paper.
Worilds is walkin away from close to 400K/game............where is he gonna get that kinda coin in the corporate world ? If he wants to do something other than football thats his choice. I respect that....if the passion isnt there then i dont wanna throw money at a guy whose heart isnt in it.
How do you blame management for this ?

Because some players bust their *** to take advantage of the opportunity that lies in front of them, while others get a reputation for being hot tub warriors and slow to return from injury.
It is managements fault because they failed at player evaluation. Supposedly our evaluation process involves character. We eliminate prospects because of character concerns. I feel we should drat prospects that have high character in regards to their willingness to do what it takes to take their talent to the next level.
It is why Ryan Leaf is Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning, you can have all the talent in the world, but it is up to the willingness of the individual to develop it.
To be great, It is all about desire. Otherwise you're Ricky Williams.
And yes some are upset about it because this indicates yet another failed LB choice for Art Tombert. Roster management at the OLB position has been atrocious starting with Joey Porter being released one year prior to his DPOY season. This one stings because not only did Worilds cost us a 2nd round drat pick in 2010, (for which we gained very, very little in 5 years), he just cost us another high mid round draft pick. The OLB position is still not solidified and the roster mismanagement continues, despite yet another high draft pick
Just wait until the Jarvis Jones contract comes up............because as it stands now, that freight train is headed to the same station.
Not for nothing, but the ONLY player that would workout WITH Harrison was Jason Worilds... so take that for what it's worth.
None of you know what we may have gotten for Worilds in a comp pick...what happens if he signed a deal like say Graham got or hell even a bit more..then proceeded to get 5 sacks wherever the hell he ended ...and we sign a few guys ( we can only hope)...we were not going to get no 3rd -4th round comp pick for him..drop the he cost us a high- mid round draft pick already. We have no way of knowing what or if he would have returned in the comp pick department

We don't know because we don't have a contract value.
Mike Wallace's contract garnered us a 3rd and he sucked balls for the dolphins. Lack of drive.
projected what the hell does that mean...I doubt there are maybe 1 or 2 people here that actually understand the comp pick formula (thats probably way to high) I sure as hell know I don't ...but you keep throwing out this projected 3rd or 4th rounder ...projected means what it says projected ...does not mean **** in real terms...and how do you know how big a deal he was going to get...you know some FO people that had an offer sheet ready for him?Woridls was going to get a big deal. Had he signed, its a projected 3rd or 4th round pick for us, since we do not spend a lot in free agency. Cowher was right when he said the Steelers had gone soft. I'm just surprised it was at the linebacker positon. Woodley and Worilds. And Shazier can't stay on the field.
Most of the d is soft not just worilds. Mitchell will hit you, but he is a punk and gets penalties. Heyward and harrison are about the only ones who bring fear. They just do not have the attitude they used to, but you see that a lot around the league. Other than ravens or seahawks you don't see mant defenses with the old fashioned attitude.
Maybe he was bullied by Dave DeCastro. (Yes, that's meant to be funny on a couple of levels.)Worilds may have seen things on the field and in the locker room that caused him to have a change of heart, too.
So you'd rather he be greedy and take a team's money w/ no desire to play the game...interesting.Got smacked in the face with reality. I'm not sure who lead him to believe he was worth mega money but it just wasn't true... now he takes his ball and goes home.
Enjoy your retirement *****.
More common sense - no speculation - EXCELLENT!It's laughable that some on here take Worilds' retirement personally like he was still a member of the Steelers.
Point: He was a free agent that in all likelihood wasn't coming back to the Steelers even if he had not retired.
Point: His agent was telling teams during the "legal tampering" period that Worilds was unsure about his football future (i.e. if he would play). One can imagine that this led to no hard offers and his not even scheduling any visits.
Point: the only thing that the Steelers lose is a comp pick. I know this is a big deal, but look at it as if he had received a career ending injury while on the roster (except there is no cap hit).
Point: He actually did the Steelers and other teams a favor by letting them know during the legal tampering period that he was unsure if he would continue playing. He could have taken a nice signing bonus and retired a couple or three years into the contract, leaving the team that signed him with a nice large cap hit.

What?
I believe he was offered much less than his ego would allow him to sign for. Probably bragged how much he was going to get and when it didn't happen he took his ball and went home. I don't buy into his story.

He bragged SOOO MUCH that he told his agent during the THREE DAY LEGAL TAMPERING PROCESS, to tell teams he wasn't sure about his future or whether or not he would continue to play football. CLEARLY he planned ahead of time, expecting to get his ego deflated by low ball offers, and thus had the built in excuse to retire.
