That's how I see it too. In four years the guy played one half of one season real well, otherwise he was not exceptional. Probably a lot of teams looked at that before they made him an offer if they made offers at all. This may to speak to why Worilds' best play came in 2013, prior to him being paid robustly, and why his play proceeded to fall off again last season.
The guy's heart was only in it enough for him to inflate his bank account, and once he achieved that to his satisfaction, he checked out.
This is no real loss. We figured that we'd lose his mediocre talent to free agency anyway. My question is do we still get a comp pick for him like we would have if he had signed a big contract elsewhere? Anyone?
Nevertheless, I think he'll be back. He'll un-retire by August 1st. He will think about his decision, miss the game, and come roaring back for some team with 2 sacks this year.
He might as well retired last year. I think this is a direct result in him believing he was worth X amount of money a year. Colbert offering too much to begin with and then tagging him making him sure he was worth X amount a year. And then this year when he hit the open market the reality was he was never worth even the offer Colbert made him. From all reports Worilds had zero interest from other teams. At this point I think the ownership should take note on recent signings and attempts/failures of Colbert. I would have him and Tomlin on a short leash this year.
Two sources (Jason LaCanfora, Yahoo Sports) claiming it. They say that like Willis he's undergone some religious thing and is stepping away.
Good Lord!
I did not want Worilds back, but I am disgusted beyond belief at the lack of heart some of our recent high round draft picks have exhibited.
It is no wonder why we have not won a playoff game in 4 years.
and I don't blame the player, I blame management.
Point: He actually did the Steelers and other teams a favor by letting them know during the legal tampering period that he was unsure if he would continue playing. He could have taken a nice signing bonus and retired a couple or three years into the contract, leaving the team that signed him with a nice large cap hit.
Would have been ok with this last point if it got us a 3rd or 4th round comp pick. Now we get squat. Kind of bummed he didn't sign a nice deal elsewhere. It is what it is now
Neither you nor I would have been OK with that last point if the team he signed with was the Steelers. lol
