I'm not speaking for Whitlock, but I do think some coaches are treated with kid gloves, and others are not. That's just the way it is. Just like Some QB's are treated differently than others.
What I will say is Whitlock is not afraid to tell it like it is. Lewis did not have control of his players and their actions were inexcusable. No, doubt! The double standard I suppose that Whitlock did not articulate is you could say Tomlin did not have control of his coaches.
Whitlock himself is based in Kansas City and grew up in Indiana, so if anything he's likely a Colts or Chiefs fan.
Whitlock who is critical of the NFL for not hiring more minority coaches tweeted, I don't want Tomlin fired. Want him accountable.
Accountable for what is still my question? Were the Steelers over the line in that game?
Shazier? Bernard was actually making a football play and Shazier tackled him. Ok, flag him and move on, this happens in every game in the NFL, there's either no flag, a flag or a flag and a fine and you move on, no team ever says, "Hey, hold that coach accountable for personal file penalty."
Porter? Really, this is a great big nothing burger, players jabber at each other all game long, not one Bengal has said that Porter's comments were over the line. Porter being on the field when he shouldn't have been, the majority of both teams were on the field and I assume to verify that AB was still alive.
Munchak? He was penalized and may be fined.
Jacoby Jones? - Tomlin was fined $100K I believe, that's accountable in my opinion.
So, what does Whitlock want Tomlin accountable for? Do other coaches have to explain every late hit, coach on the field crap that happens in a game? No
I just don't understand what is to be held accountable. Hell, Belechick and Brady weren't really held accountable for things that actually could have affected outcomes of games, they were fined and lost draft picks, I'm sure Belechick makes that trade every day of the week, fine me and take some draft picks, but I get to cheat and win a Super Bowl.
Even though this is just an opinion piece shouldn't Whitlock at least enumerate instances of Mike Tomlin being "let off the hook" so to speak by the media and not asking him hard questions? He's making statements and providing nothing by which to verify or discredit the report. This is just as bad as misrepresenting the facts, IMO.
The entity that needs to be held accountable IMO are the irresponsible media that just write crap to see what gets clicks and viewership, see Gottlieb, Stephen A Smith and Bayless.
