James Franklin has reportedly been fired

How long? Lol. It is an afterthought now. How many children lives were destroyed all to protect a college football program where everyone in the know ...knew.....and let it happen. You tell me. How long would be enough if it was your kid?

Probably but not necessarily. I remember when Franklin was hired. There wasn’t a ton of optimism and it turned out ok I’d say. I don’t know why people are so afraid to move on from good. You’ll never find great if you don’t.

I definitely agree it was time, but 6 seasons of 10+ wins and averaging over 9 wins per season at a school like Penn State is very good. Who's on your short list?

Till Sandusky is safely in prison and anyone responsible for the scandal is gone. Is there anyone remaining from 14 years ago in that category?
 
Rumor is that ADIDAS is paying the buyout. They just signed Penn State as their signature school. Penn State was losing committments so I think they had to do this. The only holdup was the money and if ADIDAS is paying it then this is best for all parties.

I also heard that Franklin wanted a new contract before this season. He said he is underpaid, and technically, he was. He was 18th highest paid coach. PSU said no and that seemed to sour things. Franklin did not seem his normal fired up self this year.

If ADIDAS is paying, maybe they do try to get CIgnetti from Indiana.

Matt Rhule of Nebraska is the obvious fit. He grew up in State College and played for Penn State. He has had success at Temple, Baylor and is turning Nebraska around. He also has NFL experience. Plus he's pals with Penn State's AD

Her name is Sandy Barbour and she gave Franklin this sweetheart deal on her way out the door a few years ago. They have a competent Athletic Director now.

Penn State got off easy. Do you truly believe Penn State paid their due on their negligence on this matter? Turning a blind eye on this entire thing .....all in the name of their football program? Really? If your child was a victim....you would really feel good with the punishment they received? Really? Wow.

At least they are addressing the BIG GAME & fact he just can’t get them there.

Our Steelers should take head, lose Tomlin and yes there may be growing pains but also celebratory SB championship wins as well.

Absolutely. Penn State’s football program should’ve been burned to the ground. It should have been orders of magnitude worse than what happened to SMU in the 80s.

i dont understand this. I think Penn St. is a top 10/20 football school and always has been. I think the PA talent has been lost to other schools. maybe.
I think that A good new coach is always around the corner . Im looking at Indiana right now. OR a Brent Key from GA Tech. Who just signed a multi yr contract. I dont have a short list. But some smart guy who works in the athletic department does.

Just curious as to what you believe the punishment should have been. The complete termination of the football program?
The victims are now in their 30’s. It would be nice to know if they thought the punishment was fair.

They are millionaires, so I bet they are satisfied.

  • By November 2017, the total settlements for 33 people had reached $109 million.
  • In November 2021, reports indicated that Penn State had paid close to $130 million to nearly 30 accusers.
In addition to the victim settlements, the scandal cost the university hundreds of millions of dollars in legal fees, internal investigations, public relations, and penalties from the NCAA.

This. The Death Penalty would have been a starting point. You seem to think money is the cure all. And poor Penn State .....they lost money.

The losing streak to top 10 teams was bad enough, but when you throw in losses to UCLA with an entirely new coaching staff in place for all of 4 days prior to the game and then lose at home to Northwestern, it’s going to come to a head pretty quickly. I have exactly zero expectations for the rest of the season, because there is a real chance they lose out.

I used to be appalled by the whole thing. But at the very least, some people were jailed for their crimes.

But then the whole Epstein thing just continues with...nothing.

Do kids matter ever when this kind of money is at stake?

I stopped watching them after all the news came out. Now I just look at prospects for the Steelers. Just the approach I took…
 
It's selective outrage. Are people really upset about what happened at Penn State, or are they really pissed off Pitt or West Virginia fans? Why do I say that? It seems with the Epstein thing, it depends on the political side and who has power at the moment that gages the outrage. Kids are being trafficked all around the world...here, right under our noses, and we sleep well. I don't like to admit that, but it's true.

Franklin elevated Penn State from a Tier 4 program (which is still very good) to a Tier 2 program, just below the true national title contenders.

I don’t really have a list other than a wish list that none of which will probably ever happen. Cignetti would be #1. Guy is a ******* weirdo but he knows ball. Look at Indiana. Averaged 3 wins a season for 9 years, Cignetti shows up and they already have 16 in less than two seasons. You’d have to back up the Brinks truck for that guy.

I would offer Curt Cignetti a boat load of money.
 
Massively overrated to start the year to massively underachieving and losing to UCLA & Northwestern will cost a coach a job…he may have been safe if Rooney was the AD

Terminating the football program hurts more people than just Penn state itself. It effects students and the community. They were also banned from postseason play for 4 yrs. I dont think you can punish everyone due to 3-4 bad people. I'm not a Penn State fan, but I think they were hit pretty hard in general
