I’d be ok if we could sign him to a cap friendly deal but doubt that happens since someone out there will probably throw money at him.
Would have been interesting to see if the new QB coach and Ben would have had any positive affect on him though especially being still pretty young. And does he have the personality to accept a backup role after being a starter?

I've always believed that Ben's accusers were crazy and sleazy in that order. He wasnt the college hero. They werent harrassed and belittled at school. Ignored and pushed off by the admin and college police. There was at least one other girl afraid to speak up publicly. I wouldnt compare them on most levels. If you're willing to overlook a pattern of abuse for a "better" (maybe) QB that doesnt fit our offense, hey more power to you. Dont expect everyone to be ok with it though.

To each his own. I've seen people who have done far worse turn their lives around. You never know what some people have been through and what they're trying to over come. The only thing we see is how they're coping/dealing with it and some deal with it better than others. Sometimes good people do dumb things as I tell my kids.

I was thinking slightly above minimum wage, and while I can't be certain, I suspect that's what his off field qualifications will eventually earn him.

He’s most likely going to be a backup so he’s not going to get starter money but even as a backup, we just won’t be able to afford him. We could never do the numbers you mentioned for Winston so in all probability we won’t be bringing him in.
And I did say I doubt that happens since someone will probably throw money at him. He would never go for a cap friendly deal imo.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Now, I'm not arguing that we should sign the kid, but the fact is this. He's only 26 years old, seemingly in good physical shape, plenty of talent and promise, but has the dark cloud of his 30-pick season hanging over his head. The QB market has pretty much dried up, at least for a starting spot.
So if you're Winston, you look around the league and check your options. With the Steelers, you have a preeminent franchise, unparalled stability with rock solid ownership, a rabid fan base, competent management and coaching in place. A team that's shown a willingness to sign their franchise QB to 100M+ contracts. A team with a 38-year old, future HOF QB taking a last shot to try to get another ring. Ben will play maybe a season or two.
Ben has been anything but durable past few years. Winston would be a play away from getting on the field at a moments notice. Long term, he'd have a chance to redeem himself, get back on solid footing, lock down the starting spot and be in line for a handsome payday.
So I wouldn't completely rule out a player like Winston signing a team-friendly deal to get in on all that.
But in this day and age, he'll probably take the best offer he can get and run with it.

havent heard la chargers interested or the saints, pats would not sign him, his options likely come down to miami to compete if they are still sold on tua even with more news about his hip injury and the long term implications, cincy if they dont unload dalton, green bay learn behind a rod but they have a decent back up learning already, Every other crap team has thier franchise qb and will roll with them clv, both nyc teams, washington maybe a 1 yr deal.

What we dont care about that or are you saying dont throw stones if our house is made of glass? That makes me think you compare Ben's incidents equally with Winston's. I dont find there to be an equivalence. It's my opinion only and doesnt mean squat.

Excellent points all of them Tibs, but I think the two questions we must ask. What can we afford? What will Winston accept? You’re points are all logical and I would hope he and his agents would be viewing it that way but I just don’t know what he’s looking for dollar wise.
Trying not to be a homer here but yes I do think this would be his best opportunity to move forward with his career. I was asked what a cap friendly deal would be but I’m not certain Jameis would accept it since what we can afford now couldn’t be that much. Who would we restructure since we’ve just about done everyone. Possibly Tuitt and DeCastro whom I don’t think have been done. Tibs I just don’t know where the money comes from that he may want.

That's true enough. The way the Winston incident was handled really torked me off. I had s couple of college athletes who acted as if they had no boundaries or need to approach what they wanted lawfully. It is a helpless feeling when they have the support of admin, students and the police.
To be fair, Ben only threw over 30TDs 3 times in his career. JW can play.

I am more concerned about the ability to lead a team to victory than stats (he was a national champion in college)
Winston played college football for the Florida State Seminoles and as a redshirt freshman became the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy and helped lead the Seminoles to a victory in the 2014 BCS National Championship Game. He turned 20 the day of the game and amassed 38 TDS to 10 Ints during the season.
I am not saying we can afford him as a backup or that we should sign him..... but like Cope said lets be fair about assessing the accomplishments at his age........
I don't remember any Superbowl parade the year Ben threw for 5000 plus 30 plus TDs and 16 Ints ...... stats are not what wins.........teamwork stands for more and trusting the one at the helm is crucial
Jameis might not be our guy but I like the fact he is not afraid to fail....he is still young and can still improve his efficiency.... good luck to him

So using your theory Winston should have some SB wins under his belt right? Or do you really want a 2020 QB playing like a 1970's QB?
BTW everyone makes judgments. When you talk about drafting a player or keeping a player you are making a judgement. So there is no reason to break out the "Don't judge them" card. Everyone on here judges daily. And you should. If you want to judge eternal damnation then I'd say that not our place but a football player? Just stop.
TB's stats only told part of the story. His grit, toughness, determination and hell, chip on his shoulder, told much of the tools for his success. He was one of my heroes growing up. So many memories. The Steelers most successfull game plan hasn't required a Drew Brees or Manning. Its balance and smash mouth football with nasty defensive dominance. Imo of course.

The 30 INTs is mainly on Arians. He pushes his QB to be super aggressive. Jameis's next highest season INT total was 18. Over his first 4 seasons Jameis averaged 25 TD and 17 INT.
He is a good prospect. He has looked good. If he was to get some actual coaching, he could be a good starter again.
He's kind of been in the same boat as Eli Manning. Eli became a turnover machine because the Giants OL was **** and they didn't have much of a run game. Even after getting Saquon, they stsill aren't a good run team. They are able to run because Saquon jukes out a dozen guys and makes yards himself. The defense went downhill as well, so it was all on ELi to try to score a bunch of points and push the ball.
When the Giants had a good OL and a run game and a defense, Eli was a good QB and they won 2 Super Bowls.
I look a a guy like Jameis and Derek Carr. Jameis takes too many chances and Carr not enough. I'd rather take on shot on the guy who is too aggressive. You can coach them out of bad habits, but the QB that is too timid rarely can break out of that and be more than a game manager. That's why the Raiders keep being linked to various QBs not named Carr.
If they can somehow get him at a backup price, i'd be all for it.

Winning a Superbowl in this league is very difficult and there are franchises with great history who have never made the big show so I am not understanding what theory you think I mentioned that says JW should have won a Superbowl or two in his first 5 years. I stated what he has accomplished as a freshman QB in college in winning the Heisman, putting together a successful season and winning the BCS.
He put up 5000 plus yards and is the first to join the 30/30 club ....... true he turns the ball over ...... but the words "judge so vehemently" means not to be overzealous
Yes we all judge and have opinions and that is our right to...... I was just trying to basically say the 30 Ints is not the be all and end all on which to form your opinion
This passed year is just that ......one year......... he is 26 and in the right environment he could improve or maybe he never gets another chance........who knows
The Terry Bradshaw reference ( I guess I should have highlighted) was about the TD INT ratio and completion % ....... both pretty bad
If those stats were shown to an unknowing person, they would never guess that TB won 4 Superbowls........ granted he had tons of HOF help getting there.....point being ...stats are not the only things you should use to make a judgement. Intangibles come in to play as well
I welcome all opinions or judgements on the players......... none of us are completely right or wrong in many cases........ and it would be boring if we all agreed all the time
