Put Wheaton back on kicks. I'd like to see him doing something with that salary he's pulling. I cringed each time he was targeted yesterday...

I don't know why people think criticizing Tomlin pushes my button criticize all you want you have every right too. What does push my buttons is if your going to blame him for the misses then give him and the staff their due on the good picks and the home runs they have hit. That's all.. I've never said the man is the best coach in the league. I don't agree with everything he does. But he is way better then he is given credit for. If your going to hold him accountable for everything that happens on the field don't come back and say despite of him when something good happens on the field. As soon as something bad happens Tomlin Tomlin but not good job coach when we do something right. If the Steelers decided to go in a different direction tomorrow I wouldn't give a flying **** just hope they bring in another good coach.
Dude, I'm jacking with you here. I think Tomlin does a good job but he like all coaches has his shortcomings as well. Look, its irrelevant whether anyone likes him or not, you cannot ignore his record in 9 seasons. He's never had a losing season and his won loss percentage is pretty damn good. Doesn't matter if you don't like his pressers, his if you will, play on words, his questionable clock management, his look of bewilderment at times, bottom line the guy has the team pretty much in contention the past nine seasons.
I will support him as long as he is the coach of my football team, period. Do I always agree with him? Hell no, but the same could be said for Cowher and Noll as well whom I didn't always agree.
Lol, yes not making it past the 20 with practice for the week would be grounds for crucifixion, I would agree then. But there are times where blocks on special teams were blatantly missed, hopefully Jones can atleast break the tackle or out run the defender, then we'll know he's a upgrade from Archer.
And don't forget the input of the entire coaching staff, be it the coordinators or position coaches. I believe they all have a significant role in putting together the draft board, doing player evaluations, et al.I think the drafting and F/A acquisitions are a collaboration between both Tomlin and Colbert and with the input of the scouts.
I would generally tend to agree with you, but frankly, Jones looked exactly the same out there returning kicks as he's looked all year with the Chargers. Tentative, slow, no vision, etc. Again, there's probably a good reason they cut this guy in the middle of the season. I may be wrong, and with a few practice sessions this week he'll transform into a completely different player by next Sunday. But if you've seen him at all this year on tape, I'm afraid this is as good as it gets. You all missed the part where it said he didn't have ANY practice time with the team because he got into town late then. I know everyone likes to think all special teams blocking schemes are the same but it's not. Once he gets a day or 2 to learn the scheme he'll be fine.
so if Jones doesnt return one to the house ... or even past the 20 ... against Cleveland -- assuming he has a day or two of practice this week -- we can crucify him, right?

Absolutely. I know a lot of people didn't like the Archer pick and I have to believe that Haley had a good amount of pull on that pick for his offense. I could be wrong, but makes some sense.
Cool shades continues his streak of excellence. Scobee now a washed-up Jones to go with his uncle, Jarvis Jones. Of course he likes his pedigree like the punter from New England couple seasons ago, I think his name was Zoltan. Jacoby replaced a third round pick in Archer who we actually moved up to draft. And the hits keep a coming cool shades.
I'd bet the Pats sign Joseph Randle before they sign Dri Archer.
Interesting....
Dri Archer passes on 10 practice-squad offers
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/category/rumor-mill/
Last week, the Steelers released running back Dri Archer to create a roster spot for receiver Jacoby Jones. Unclaimed on waivers, Archer became a free agent.
To date, Archer hasn’t signed with another team. However, he has had multiple opportunities to join NFL practice squads.
Per a league source, Archer has passed on 10 offers to join practice squads, including an offer from the Steelers. Archer, a third-round pick in 2014, instead plans to wait and see whether any opportunities arise to join a 53-man roster.
Of course, he could do both, signing on a practice squad and then joining any active roster. For now, he hopes to see whether any of the tailback-needy teams decide to give him a chance to show off his 4.26 speed.
The team with the most immediate need is the Patriots, who have lost versatile running back Dion Lewis for the season with a torn ACL.
So, Cool Shades gets credit for signing the RB who has saved our season too, right?
You're grasping at straws here slashsteel. Why wouldn't he prefer to sit tight and see if he gets an offer or two before signing on someone's practice squad? Once he's there, he has no say in the matter. If he waits, and gets a couple of offers he at least can weight those options before making a decision. What am I missing, besides yet another example of someone rushing to judgement just to bash Dri Archer one last time?
If you were following the entire thread you will see that I was messing with Andrewjosh. Like I had said, Tomlin is no different than any of the other 31 coaches who have their hits and misses. I even pointed out that Williams was one of his hits. Follow all of the posts from me and not what you just decided to select there Grasshopper.

And they weren't blatantly missed when Archer was the returner?
Maybe he would. Just can't think of any other reason why he wouldn't want to get on a practice squad, if he had ten seperate offers to do so. In particular, why wouldn't he sign on with us? He's seen a bunch of draft picks come back and forth to the PS, guys like Chickillo & Grant, it's how it works with these young guys. Maybe his agent is blowing bubbles in his ear. Or he's got an ego the size of Manhattan, and he's pissed off the Steelers unceremoniously cut him. I wouldn't want to face a pissed off Dri Archer playing for some other team. Who knows what lengths he'll go to for some payback....So you don't think he would sign with the first team that laid a contract in front of him? Really?
