Is Mike Tomlin an Elite Coach?

Elite also is able to evaluate talent, after two preseason games and all of training camp Steelers have had no one stand out. The biggest thing is who Tomlin has though had all this talent and drafted and yet have not shown reedy to play let alone stand out. His high drafts , you need to look them up and see what number they are to know if they are on the field.

The guy who I wanted to take in the first round stood out plenty. #37, Josh Jackson. Too bad he plays for the Packers. They stole that dude with the 45th pick.

Of course, the Steelers' first rounder stood out too...by missing tackles and proving he can't cover a first-, second-, third-, or fourth-string tight end.

I've asked Alexa the same question many times. The response is always the same: "I'll need more information to answer the question".
LOL....
No wait.....

If it is indeed Ben calling those "selective off tempo TOs," he shouldn't be. Tomlin should be the guy controlling the clock. He's the head coach, not Ben. I don't have time to verify your assertion that it "didn't hurt us" this past season, but even if that is the case, it's bad time management to waste a timeout on offense in those types of situations. Period.

Yes, the Steelers suck on onside kicks. We know that. Especially with Boswell (remember the Bizarro reverse-foot job a few years back?). That's why it was a particularly bad decision.

Glad we can agree on some things.

Yea, I hear ya Topseed. Though it's tough for Tomlin to run out on the field and tackle Ben right before he takes those TOs in odd situations. ;)

No. I hope that helps

CMVLT will always have that stigma of not using or wasting Ben's talent along the the way. Now add in his early exits and very few play off wins with exceptional talent ............ Well you have just mediOker coaching. For some another Super Bowl win would push him into elite status but for me I don't think that quite gets him there considering he hasn't been exceptional in the coaching role. He doesn't set any new standards of the game. He's never pushing the envelope on anything except frustration commonly known as losing to subpar teams in unprepared ways. So if Your definition of elite isn't the absolute best then he is elite. He is very good win / loss percentage but can't quite get over the hump.

I can't put it all on tomlin but drafting wide receivers backup level running backs and qbs early, every year when your defense has been in decline for a decade is the epitome of clueless!
It's the equivalent of spending your money on an expensive set of rims for your car when the transmission is bad, realizing the transmission is bad, then spending the rest of your money on a new paint job.
That's become the Steeler way under Mike Tomlin.

At least the Steelers did not get owned by the likes of Tim Tebow and Blake Bortles in those post season losses.

To be fair he did beat backups A.J. McCarron and Matt Moore for 2 of those playoff wins.

We havent beaten Rivers, Flacco or Warner in the last 8 years when we have only 3 playoff wins. Unless Cowher comes back and brings real defensive talent we won;t be beating great QBs in the playoffs.

And Philip Rivers, Joe Flacco, and Kurt Warner to win a title.

Seriously guys, you mustn't have been alive for the 80s teams. This franchise is ******* elite!

Historically elite.
Currently decent at best --- cue the Jalen Ramsey.

As a fan I accept that a championship is not going to happen every season.
But I do think having an elite QB at the helm should've at least given Mikey sunglasses another championship to show for.

2010 he had the defense.
It seemed 2011 to now the defense has regressed to garbage.

Offensive talent has been the consistent under Tomlin's watch.
But there are weeks where they can only score so much.

Tomlin needs one more ring imo.

Not elite until he can beat Belicheat more than twice in a decade.

To be fair. Hoodie does cheat.
I mean the pats have gotten away with a lot and more than likely will continue so in order to save face for an already struggling league

Wah Wah Wah, my argument was blown to ****. Ha!

Part of why this league is struggling is the fact that the CHEATRIOTS cheat and THE LEAGUE LETS THEM GET AWAY WITH IT. People are tired of the cheating ******** so when you combine them and the protest and the thugery and the penalties and the commercials....... Well you get the point as to the struggle of the league. Tomlin needs a season or two of prepardiness consistantly. If his team's could come out firing and NOT look past / play down too, he would have that one possibly three more SB wins. I don't want bad to happen the team or any individual within the organization but what's going to happen when we have a not so elite QB ????

OK Cocknockers,

Since 2000 only 4 teams have multiple championships:

Pats with 5
Steelers, NYG, and Ravens with 2

There you go. Cry all you want, but we've done what 28 other teams in the NFL couldn't do since the turn of the millennia.

Want to keep crying? Wah, we haven't won since 1960, when it wasn't even a freakin super bowl. Guess what? Eagle fans are done crying now. You never know what's going to happen year to year, and I'm damn glad our franchise stays competitive each and every year.

I suffered through those years, the difference was we didn't have a HOF quarterback, the number one rb and number one wr in the game to go along with one of the top offensive lines in the league. Tomlin is underacheiving at best. just my opinion.

Tomlin is only underachieving because this board seems to have a lot of Patriots envy.

I agree

Flacco was a rookie in 2008, Rivers played the game against us with a torn ACL. You are not doing to well and of course that was 10 years ago, He won those games with Cowher's defensive players.. Tomlin has won 3 playoff games in the last 8 years , two were against backup QBs, thats the facts Jack.

Tomlin sucks, players only care about the coin and the ME, not the victory.

You'd left something very important out so I thought I'd help out.............

What you seem to be completely missing Cope is the Tomlins D allowed Bortles to go 14/26 for 214 yrds and 1 TD.

the next week, against a REAL coach he was only able to go 23/36 for 293 yards and 1 TD.
