Is it time to be concerned with Edmunds?

Can't have pro bowl player at every position. He's athletic and fast, something our defense severely lacked for awhile. They are playing damn good, he's under his rookie deal, so you let him play. Dupree sucked for years and he kept playing, not ready to give up Edmunds after two seasons

not a big fan of Edmunds - particularly since he let that INT in the endzone go right between his hands that resulted in a TD - but do see that he's been moved around and had to learn how to play on the fly.

oh, and since Cooch now hates him, I suggest we sign him long term.

Tell Cooch to go out and play SS himself so we can truly witness head met ***

Now that we have gone over the top speeds of players, and showing how the 40-yard dash doesn't include a top speed, the conclusion is Edmundus top speed is 1-2 MPH slower than people who ran slower 40's or near-identical 40's. This is why he's often trialing or losing ground in coverage.

Most good players at least flash ability in their first two years. Edmunds has been pretty poor vs the pass. Over 30 games. Some say Dupree was terrible, no he wasn't and he flashed ability.

Edmunds next interception might very well be his first in 30+ games and he has a NFL 3 passes defended for a starting safety. Yep.

So Mr. Dumb *** starts early with his usual two sided idiot speak.

Leads the team in tackles, but also leads the team in missed tackles?

Wrong, as usual. Going into week 17, Edmunds has 10 missed tackles against 98 combined tackles (leads team). His missed tackle percentage is 9.3, which is 11th on the team.

You really spit crap out of your mouth with unnerving ease. If you are wanting attention, dress up like a clown and stand outside shouting you are an evaluator of players. You definitely will get the attention you crave.

Sure, Edmunds hasn’t been a splash play maker, and his coverage game has taken a step back, but his role changed when Minkha arrived and outside of Hilton, has blitzed far more than any other DB. I’d say it’s safe to say, if you let him learn to play with one safety in stead of three, he can get better at anticipating the other player. Minkha definitely ahead of him there, hence the high draft slot.

If only we can read the posts about Edmunds on draft day. A real hoot. Some saw it, others would STFU on what they initially said. He made a lot of tackles because his man is open and catches the football.

Also, get your sources correct. Edmunds missed 14 tackles this year, not 10. Where did you read 10? Edmunds hasn't been a splash player you say? LOL an understatement. He's the worst splash playing starting safety in the NFL. Back up pass him on passes defended and interceptions. What part of his game impressed you? Nevermind.

Read below and learn:

so you must think Watt sucks with his 12.3% miss rate which is nearly the same as Edmunds

Watt has the most splash plays, perhaps in the NFL. If Edmunds had 14 sacks, 2 picks and 6 forced fumbles, he would be very good. But he has no sacks, picks or forced fumbles. Also Watt probably leads the NFL in QB pressures.

Funny comparing a pro bowl player and team MVP to Edmunds. How many TD's did Edmuncs give up this season? That I'd like to know. Probably at least five

Let's move on to bigger issues such as...The Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016. We are approaching 2020. 4 more years? I hope not. Come on Danny Snyder. Take Mikey. I'd settle for the Redskins third-round pick ( 68 overall ) and two 4th round picks ( 110 and 142 ). Its a bargain :)

where did you get that bullshit about top speed? So we should ignore officially timed 40 times and go with some made up estimation?

actually, I expected his percentage of misses to be slightly higher. I've said his tackling gives me the heebie jeebies. Of course, Safeties are sometimes coming from far away which can turn into dives or big reaches, but in his case, I see him tackling a bit high and fails to wrap and lock.

@Coach - did that come in a chart somewhere? I see Steeler's Depot. If I can find some time, I'd be interested in correlating missed tackles rates to things like total snaps and such. I asked before....do you have a link? (I'm not being snarky, I am genuinely interested in the stat).

guys leading team in tackles... not just any team but the Pittsburgh fuking steelers and you think he's ****. thats why many around the league think yinzers are nutz. he been improving all time and he's right where you'd want a young player to be. we play a weird 3 safetys defense at times so ya he still looks lost sometimes but the whole defense looks lost at times!!! they will hold on to butler after the season so any improvement this defense does make will have to come from within. they look like they really want to play for each other so the arrow is going upward regardless of the coaching. same can't be said for offense yet. but geez give a guy a fuking break!

My sources are fine and official. Depot is not Dumb ***. In fact Depot has been having some flame wars with other sites. Alex’s site is being blamed for purportedly stealing info from other sites.

This site, Pro Football Reference, should help you see the actual stats instead of those you make up as your own.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/pit/2019_advanced.htm

Sort/Filter/adjudicate to your heart’s delight. But I doubt it coming from you. Anyone else please review and advise Dumb *** who currently leads in missed tackles, and how many Edmunds currently has after 15 games.

Also stick to your thread topic. If you want to transition to another fire Tomlin rant, do on one of the various threads out there.

Depot has a couple of good follows out there, but the guy who runs the site is a clown and I've seen multiple sites accuse him of stealing their material. One even baited him by using a blatantly wrong date. I don't know how much Alex would steal. That guy is out there every camp charting every play (a big reason why we think every player is a star out of camp). I don't know what they pay him, but there's no way its enough for the time he puts in.

Yes, I agree SF. There are some good folks on Depot and their opinions are just like ours...just opinions. I don’t think Alex is the issue, but more or less their site administrator. Some of the items being cited have pretty damning evidence.

Edmunds is the weak link in the secondary. Some #'s

– Target stats from the year.

Sean Davis: 1/1 13 yards 0 TDs 0 INTs
Artie Burns: 2/2 28 yards, 0 TDs 0 INTs
Kam Kelly: 4/4 49 yards, 1 TD 0 INTs
Minkah Fitzpatrick: 7/16 58 yards 2 TDs 4 INTs
Cam Sutton: 9/20 81 yards 0 TDs 1 INT
Mike Hilton: 13/29 189 yards 2 TDs 1 INT

Terrell Edmunds: 21/30 330 yards 5 TDs 0 INTs ( 72.5% competitions allowed )

Steven Nelson: 23/44 323 yards 0 TDs 1 INT
Joe Haden: 27/57 333 yards 4 TDs 6 INTs

– QB rating when each player was targeted:

Sutton: 35.7
Haden: 49.7
Fitzpatrick: 53.7
Nelson: 66.8
Hilton: 75.2
Williams: 78.1
Barron: 81.4
Bush: 96.9
Davis: 118.8
Burns: 118.8
Edmunds: 139.6
Kelly: 157.3

– Davis and Burns have very, very small sample sizes and should be taken with a grain of salt.

– Want to know why Fitzpatrick was quiet over the final portion of the season? Over his final eight weeks, he was targeted just twice. Teams wised up and simply stopped throwing the ball anywhere near him.

>> Edmunds only has 3 passed defenses for the season, which is the lowest amount of any starting safety in the NFL that played a full season. Or if you prefer 227 players on defense, had more pass defenses.

0 sacks. 0 Forced fumbles For Edmunds.

Edmunds has gone 29 games without an interception, and the one he had was a very easy play. My money's on 0-32, which would mean two full seasons with no interceptions.

Did I mention he lead the team in missed tackles?

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/E/EdmuTe00.htm

Coach's Take: Its clear Edmunds was over-drafted. Many said so. The Steelers swung and missed. While Edmunds is not an Artie Burns type of bust, he's the weak link on the defense. Poor in coverage, not a ball skills guy at all, and missing too many tackles. The Steelers might sign a veteran safety in free agency, or spend a 4th-7th round draft pick on a safety. Depth is needed at safety as well, so I expect the Steelers to do something at safety during the offseason beyond bringing in rookie free agents. The best thing I could say about Edmunds is he's very cheap on the cap and durable.

didn't you already do this thread topic? or they might just run together

Our secondary has been much better the last two years. Say what you want about Edmunds but he may be the supposed weak link but he isn't bad and he makes a ton of tackles and while he has missed some it isn't any worse than others on the team. He is improving in coverage and gives us some toughness. He will continue to get better playing a whole preseason with the Minkah.

But all of that is moot in your mind this is the current agenda driven post.
