Is Chickillo slowly convincing you he might be starting material?

No he, Chickillo, is not...he basically disappeared after the 1st quarter...

I didn't think you would show this week after the defensive collapse, and Davis once again being Davis.

The entire defense including our best player ( Heyward ) was MIA after the first quarter for the most part.

As I said earlier. You comparing him to JJ all the time is all that needs said. What does that tell you?

Pretty much sums up our once great Steeler team.

Exactly. JJ who does very little is starting, so why wouldn't Chickillo be viewed as starting material?

To put things in perspective, one more sack and he passes Heyward for the team lead, and he's already tied for the lead in forced fumbles

Because outside of those few accomplishments he has done nothing, gets pushed around like a rag doll, cannot control or dominate at the point of attack, is too slow to cover a receiver...etc. He is not a consistent upgrade to Jones, hence why he is not a starter.

Yes although I wouldn't use the word "slowly".

When Chickillo who really is a role guy stands out you see right then where this defense is.

I do not see him getting pushed around the way you describe it. He wins some battles and loses some, HOWEVER, he's capable of making the plays the defense needs to get off the field or force a turnover, and that's huge.

Like I said, give the amount of snaps the starters get and he'll do even better.

None of our LB's are fast enough to cover a receiver, maybe Shazier, that's it. If speed is your thing Chikillo is faster than many of our linebackers.

LMAO, Chickillo runs a 4.79 40 while Shazier ran a 4.38 and recently outran our receivers in a foot race...lol

Given the current state of the linebackers, I guess you could call Chickillo a starter, but I still haven't seen much to get excited about. I would rather run with him than Moats.

Man I hope Chickillo is all pro next year, hope he gets 10 sacks this year. hope he is so damn good that we have teams dbl and triple teaming him.

but he has shown nothing to make me think any of this is going to happen

This year he is a Situational pass rusher. He could develop into something more....next year. Hasn't learned to set the edge on rushing downs yet.

I'm with Coach when it comes to Chickillo. I like what I'm seeing from him, in the context of him being a rookie.

The guy has length and athleticism and is almost always around the ball.

He needs to get stronger, but the Steelers might have something here.

Two LB'ers on this roster need to be shown the door in the offseason. That's Jarvis Jones & Lawrence Timmons. Timmons just doesn't have it anymore and Dirty Red is waiting in the wings to take that starting job! Also Jarvis Jones is a complete joke! Worst first round draft pick since Jamain Stephens. Deebo will retire unfortunately as one of my all-time favorite Steelers.

We need OLB in the first round in the offseason and possibly ILB in the 2nd round. We've gotta be able to generate pressure on the edge in a 3-4 Defense.

I like his development in pass rushing situations but I'm definitly dissapointed with his running D given that it was his best asset in college

Chickillo has proven to me that he's a pretty good player who is at least worth a spot for depth at OLB. He is still learning and he does show flashes of pass rush ability. He'll probably never be a double digit sack guy but that's OK. The steelers did not invest a high pick or big money in him so if his ceiling is to be a quality backup then that's fine.

I think his ceiling could be as a good #2 OLB. If they get a true #1 OLB, meaning a guy that can rush the passer by defeating blocks on his own and not because they scheme got him free; a guy who forces the offense to change their plans by either double teaming him or keeping in a RB to block.

If the steelers do get that stud pass rusher (hopefully Dupree), then Chickillo may be good enough to be a 5 to 8 sack guy. I expect he will get better vs the run as well.

I think Vince Williams should be starting now in place of Timmons

Yes, but we need to keep Tomlin/Colbert out of this draft somehow. They should NOT be involved in selecting any other defensive high picks!!!!

If my dreams come true, hopefully we'll have a new Head Coach making that decision.:israel:

I have no doubt that this year is the last we see of both of them. Timmdong, thank you for your service. Jarvis, don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out.
Problem is based on Tombert's draft history I have no faith in their ability to find anyone else who becomes good. Best to trade for or find a FA who is proven to be decent.

Question. Over the last 5 years - what was our average pick position in the draft, specifically speaking of the first round???

Answer: middle of the pack. And when the opportunity to grab a premier edge rusher came up...we passed on Randy Gregory, which seems like a good pass...

The best 3-4 edge rusher we ever had not only wasn't drafted he was cut twice. And don't knock Dupree till we see him play a second year. That also goes for Burns, Davis, and Hargrove. Bob Knight was said the best thing about freshmen is that in only a year they become sophomores.

So, hindsight proves we passed on plenty of good pass rushers.

We picked Dupree and passed on Shane Ray who has 9 sacks this season.

We pick a small and injury prone Senquez Golson, likely a slot corner only , and pass on Edge rusher Markus Golden ( Who I liked. ) He only has 10 sacks this season!

We picked the wrong guys period. Dupree must pan out. We can't afford another 1st round Jarvis Jones.

We passed on Cliff Avril for Bruce Davis if I remember correctly.
