Is Cam the new prototype QB?

  • Thread starter Thread starter POP

For one, he is a minority himself, who is a likely target for stereotyping and bigotry. And if a man in such a position doesn't see the need to pull the race card, maybe there is some credibility in there.

It's called common sense. I just don't see rampant racism being targeted towards black QBs these days. It was once an issue, but you no longer see it. I don't.

Critics? Let's start with the fact that there aren't many out there to begin with. Let's start there.

Him, lots of straw man arguments going on here. Let's just say that when you bring the minority, bigots' agenda to light, you are giving them far more attention that they deserve. Cam is giving power and attention to the ignorant fools who don't even deserve being addressed. Perhaps you are too young to grasp this concept. It's like taking little whispers of fools and putting their warped agenda on blast, giving it center stage where it deserved to simply be ignored. Everyone I know who paid attention to this scratches their head at Cam's need to address something that few mainstream people ever thought it was even worth addressing. If it's 1988 and we are talking Doug Williams? Yes, it deserved attention. 25 years later? Not so much. I know no one who still tries to assert that blacks cannot play NFL QB. I know of no one who tries to sell that notion. There are still people who believe the earth is flat. Should we bring focus and attention to those folks? Why not?

Poppycock ... if you don't see it, it's because you don't choose to see it.

An Indian doesn't anymore know what it's like to be black in the U.S. than I do what it's like to be white, asian or latino. Even though the Indian is a minority, his culture and experiences are as far removed from mine as mine are from yours. And you know this. Talk about straw man arguments.

Dude, I just sent you a link that SHOWS examples of the rampant racism directed at Cam ... in ******* TWEETS to him. And you don't see it? LMBAO!!

And your stance on the situation; that he's "giving power and attention" to those that don't need to be addressed. BULLSHIT. You want us to hide our heads in the sand so that YOU feel comfortable while others direct racism and hate our way. That's ... that's ... wow, I'm speechless on that one because the things I'd like to say to you would get me banned. But, I'm here to tell you that as an African-American male, I'd address racism that is directed towards me in any way I felt was appropriate. I'm not talking about violence or any of that crap, but using words and a platform to address the situation. Hell yeah.

As far as my age there "Pop" ... I was around when the Civil Rights movement was active. Before fools like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton made it a joke by using the platform for personal financial gain.

Anyway, your whole post(s) show that this is something that you couldn't understand from your perspective. And that's OK, I wouldn't expect you to. However, your "solution", which basically amounts to "take the **** given to you and get over it" is flat out ridiculous.

The people who say they "never noticed" a person's race are invariably conservatives and invariably liars.

You are a complete idiot. The simple truth is that many of us gave his race no thought at all. I just watch the guy and appreciate his enormous talent. And anyway, I thought that is what we were after. A society that does not recognize race, just recognizes that we are all equal regardless of color or anything else. Until people like you keep bringing it up. And then you realize that isn't what you want. Who knows what you want? It is liberals who are all consumed with race because they need it as an issue.

And there it is. The automatic assumption that all white people are born of privilege. Since they are all born of privilege, how dare that proffer any opinion on this whatsoever.

I am sure Ben has to deal with horrible tweets. Romo. Dear God, what must Brady deal with. I sure Brady gets called a homosexual 1000 times per day. Where is the righteous indignation for that?

Nope, not an automatic assumption that all white folks are born of privilege. I've got plenty of white friends who weren't :peaceful: What I am saying is that there is no way in hell that a white person could know what it is like to deal with racism in the ways that a black person does. Why? Because you are not black. And if a white person had to deal with racism in some way, there is no way that I could understand what it was like for them. Totally different cultures, experiences.

And if Ben, Romo or Brady felt like addressing things like being called a homosexual, I'd be OK with that too. Yet, I doubt that every person in there family has been called a homosexual at least once going back generations. Sorry, not even a valid comparison.

And I'd say that a majority of people do exactly what I bolded. However, there are those who don't and as with most radicals, they do and say the things that cause the must hurt. It's not a political issue at all though. It is a societal issue that should be addressed whenever and wherever it raises it's ugly head. As should gay bashing, bullying, etc.

In any event, I'm done discussing race on here ... there's a side of the board for that. And honestly, those who see ... see. Those who don't ... won't.

But that is exactly what you did. White=privilege=offer no opinions in situations like this. You are correct that I cannot understand what the black experience is. However, my point is that just because there are a few ******' idiots out there still with their racist crap, does not mean all of us are. For someone to advance the idea that we all sit around, watch Cam Newton play and the first thing we think about is his race is just nonsense. I take offense to the idea that I first look at his color before anything else.

The guy is an incredibly talented player. I don't know is he is transcendent or not. I think all that talk about any player is stupid. Just let the guy play and appreciate what we see. Quit with the historical comparisons.

I think people who constantly bring up race has racial tendencies.

This society is the mememe society. It really isn't about white and black, until someone with a agenda brings it up.

Let us get back to the Black n Gold colors, That is the only two "colors" that should be thrown back n forth here.

I know the homosexual example I used is not the same. It is taking me a bit to articulate this. I used the homosexual reference to highlight my idea that is this issue more an issue of extreme stupidity or racism? Maybe they are one in the same, but I see some of this as just incredibly stupid people with no sense of decency who now have a vehicle to express themselves with no consequences whatsoever. So they say all kinds of horrible stuff. So to Cam Newton it is racial stuff. To Tom Brady it is homosexual stuff. To Ben he is a rapist. And so on.

I know I am old. But I am telling you, we will rue the day that some of this technology was invented, if we don't already.

You are right. When we figure out that it really is less about black and white and more about ruling class elites vs. the rest of us, look out. I'll bet I have a hell of a lot more in common with SteelBuckeye and he with I than either of us do with Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

And you are even more right about the 2nd part. It is about black and gold. So I will say no more on it as well.

Now you're talking my language ...

If walking away from your own fumble in the super bowl is the new prototype of qb..ill pass.

When I saw it live on TV I thought maybe someone pulled him back from behind because I couldn't believe what I just saw. Then the instant replay confirmed what I actually did see.

Loved watching the Panthers score a TD running the ball and Newton was so subdued and did not get involved, selfish thug is all about himself.

Nice interview douche! You can dab and take team photos, and rub it in the other teams face when all goes well, but
you act like a cry baby and say Denver did nothing special? What a joke.

The real reason why some people don't like Cam.

Media will circle the wagons to make excuses for Cam at the press conference. We'll probably hear some version of you white people are trying to paint Cam as the angry black man for showing emotion. You white people don't understand.

Can't wait to hear more reasons why i'm racist for thinking Cam is a spoiled brat and a phony.

Not very smart to say Denver didn't do anything special. That's more of an indictment of his performance than it is a cheap shot remark at the Broncos. If they didn't do anything special, why then did you suck so bad against them? Not a very smart comment at all.

Can't give Cam all the blame for this loss, but hopefully this experience has taught him a little humility. Fine line between confidence and cockiness and he definitely crossed it. Makes the losses all the more painful and humiliating. He'll learn, I think.

Randall Cunningham, Kordell Stewart, Steve McNair, and now Cam Newton. I said it before and I will say it again I will keep Roethlisberger you can have your "new prototypical QB".

My bet is the Panthers go 8-8 even with playing Tampa, Saints and the dirty birds twice a year.

That has already started. Blamed the O-line, how ****** the WR's are/were, but not Cam. No siree. Heard it this morning on ESPN radio on the way in.

This is the type of thing that happens when you try to push a narrative on people, never thinking what the blowback will be if the narrative falls short of all the hype.

Go to NFL.com, there's at least three articles going after Cam's play/effort/attitude

Yeah, I thought that there would have been more excuses, but a ton of heat going on Cam. Definitely his attitude, but also his lack of effort going after the fumble, etc.

Cam is having a good year but he is a gimmick QB like every other gimmick QB. The better defenses contain him and force him to work making reads and throwing the ball. Then after a few years when he slows a step he's got nothing. See Mike Vick.

Damn I guess i was right. Contain the gimmick and cam has nothing.
