If you had one play to take back in Steelers history what would it be??

Gotta agree with this one. People who are not our age just do not seem to understand the hate for the Raiders. I still hate them even though they consistently suck. If I was in the cemetery where they planted Al Davis, I'd piss on his grave.

me too :applouse:

94 AFCCG. That charger game absolutely broke my heart, I was 13 at the time.

Just because the Chargers were crushed didn't mean we would be too. I think we matched up well with that 49ers team. Besides we just should of never lost that game.

Oh, I don't think we would have been crushed, but that doesn't make me think we would have won though. Steve Young vs Neil O'Donnell, you make the choice.

The play where Hastings ran the wrong way and Neil threw it to a Dallas CB covering no one cost us a chance to win super bowl vs. The Cowboys. But Dallas would have the ball again, and its not sure thing. That would be my pick.

My other choice would be Mendenhall's fumble in the super bowl.

True dat. The Steelers-Raiders rivalry back in the 70s was like the Steelers-Ravens today, at least for me.

If you ever get a chance to watch that series of plays again from when the Steelers get the ball back.

I didn't quite understand why Cowher came out in 5 wides. As you state, the Cowboys would have had time. Therefore, why not bleed the clock a little. Anyway, in looking at it again, a crucial play before the pick is O'Donnell hits Hastings right in the hands with a pass that would've gotten to around the 50. I think if that pass is completed, Cowher bleeds the clock a little. They were running the ball well. I think that drop dictated what happened after.

But O"Donnell was such a system QB. All he has to do is pick his head up on the pick and look downfield. He has Corey Holliday (who was only playing because Mills got hurt) so wide open down the sideline he could've punted it for a completion. I know we all remember thew play. But I wonder if Larry Brown ever thinks, "Whew. I was this close to being the goat." Probably not, but he should. O'Donnell looks up Brown never gets that contract from the Raiders.

A couple notable after thoughts Steelers /Titans playoff game. The missed field goal that was brought back on a minor hit to the kicker. The loss to Tebow was right up there. That was a tipping point where the franchise was declining and you could tell.

Yeah all those were pretty heart breaking, especially the Chargers and Cowboys loss. But just to add another not mentioned, I'd say the 2003 divisional playoff loss to the Titans off some BS running into the kicker call. The kick was missed before the call and we loss that game 34-31 in over time as 3rd seed.

Probably O'Donnell's pick toward the end of the super bowl to the imfamous Larry Brown. We were driving and had the momentum and could have one that game. Close second would have to be the 2 interceptions Ben threw in the first half of the super bowl against the Packers. The first was a pick 6 and the second was when we were driving. Terrible passes!

Thanks for all the fine "bad play" memories. Realize though, all these plays, makes us love our steelers even more. If I had to pick one, I'd use a one word answer........ A-L-L

Salute the nation

O'Donnell's 2nd interception in SB XXX. The Cowboys' defense was toast. The Steelers offense had pushed them around the 2nd half like a shopping cart. If the Steelers get one first down, the Cowgirls are done. Their defenders looked like they wanted to be anywhere but on the field against that offensive line.

This should have been in the mix of the ones they asked the bus. I agree,, this int cost us the superbowl,, losing or not.. we had that game.

johnson's piss poor attempt at blocking not withstanding...
you don't fumble. no way. no how.

for me it's either one of larry brown's 2 gift ints

The punt return? That was nothing new. The real BS that game was the blocked FG and the illegal forward lateral on the return that gave the Cheats a 21-3 lead. When you lose 24-17, those were the winning points. Besides, Cowher shouldn't have even been going for the 49 yard FG anyway because Kris Brown was a disaster that year from 40+ out. So if you're talking just that championship game, that's the play you want back.

In all of history? There's two I would want back. Neil's pick in the 4th in SB 30 and Mendenhall's fumble in 45. Change those and you've got 8 Lombardis.

Recall however on the punt return, Miller actually got a great punt off that went out of bounds deep in the NE end. It was a dumb penalty by Troy Edwards that caused the rekick and subsequent TD. I blame that punk to this day.

As for the SD game.... Not so much the immaculate deflection for me but rather......

Alfred #@$%^ Pupunu.

Actually, the Ravens rivalry is tame. Raiders was a blood bath, literally...EXTREMELY dirty games...
jmo...I understand what u are saying.

As much as the Chargers game hurt, we probably weren't going to beat the 9ers. Other than the 2 most mentioned, the pick 6 vs the Pack, the long pass completion by the Pack on 3rd down late in the game (perfect pass, Ike missed knocking it away by inches), and one that no one has mentioned, no one rushing Larry Seiple in 1972 vs Miami, and he deciding to take off, and and run deep into Steeler territory. We might have gotten the first one in 72 if not for that play.

I will have to strongly disagree. I think we would have destroyed the 9ers in the super bowl that year. The next season the expansion Carolina Panthers, using our defense scheme brought down there by Dom Capers, beat the 9ers pretty soundly twice if i recall correctly. This was a 49ers team with almost the exact same make up as the year before. The 3-4 blitzburgh zone was designed to combat the west coast dink n dunk with 4 athletic LB's. Of course, we still would have had O'donnell at QB so maybe we wouldn't have won after all! lol

Holliday was open for a touchdown. Neil was a by the book guy though, so when he saw the blitz, he looked to dump it off. Of course Dallas was a veteran team, and they may have come up with a classic game winning drive, but I'd be willing to take our chances.
