If one of the big three QBs is there at #25 would you take him?

Would you take one of the big three QBs in the first round?

I get the value of taking one, but this team is in position to make a serious run next year. I do what I can to build this team into a champion for 2016.
 
I'm in the minority, but I think BR will leave in the next couple of years, especially if the Steelers win the next Super Bowl.

I don't see him playing into his late-30s.
 
Ben plays prob 3-4 more which means we should consider his replacement in a couple years, not while the SB window is still open and we are a few defensive pieces away.

I think maybe Cardell in the 4th if he's there.

We need DL, S and CB before QB.

I see a veteran QB brought in later to compete with Jones and Vaughn and possibly a later round pick to fight out for the 2 backup spots.
 
You have your franchise QB now and you supplement him with the best available talent....not on a project guy 5 years down the road who will be at the end of his rookie contract. Look at the Pats situation now with Garappolo who was a second round pick. Here is a guy who looks the part and plays well in preseason but has sat on the bench for two+ years while the Pats have Brady saying he wants to play until he's 45. Think the Pats could have used a second round guard last year?

I agree... He has a family and took lots of shots to the head. He has to be somewhat concerned about his long term health. I could definitely see him retiring even next year if they win the SB. If not i see 3 years max. However this year i would not pick a QB first. I would work on restocking the D this year and go from there.
 
Wait till next year to look for a real replacement, For now the focus should be building the D back to a fearsome D.

25 Look aty the top DB's and possibly a DL that can line up at multiple spots in a 4 man front.

He needs 3 more rings to reach his goal. I think he'll be here longer than 4 years.

I think Heath Miller, by all accounts one of his closest friends on the team, set the template for him.

I don't think he'll play as long as we'd like him to either. I've seen news reports with him looking for a spot for a restaurant in the area and then doing the hunting show, he is slowly setting himself up for opportunities after his playing days.
 
Now...should the Steelers take a "Big Three" QB if one is still available when they pick in the first round?

Oh..this is a tough one. Maybe, but only if the top five or six CBs are already taken.

However...if Lynch is sitting there when they pick - which I'm 85 percent sure won't happen - then yes, go for it.

The Steelers' back-up QB situation is shaky at a time when BR seems more susceptible to injury. Not a very good situation.

The broncos drafted Osweiler to be next in line and what did that get them? The same as what the steelers got for Landry. The time to draft a QB of the future is not now, it's when Ben has 1 or 2 years left.

That way the rookie gets to start games while still on his rookie deal otherwise you wind up like the Broncos where you have to decide on paying big money to an unproven player.

I'm not sold on Carson Wentz, the only time he played against a D1 defense in Iowa State (2014), he struggled. Yes, he has all the measurables, but so did Jamarcus Russell...
Goff is thin and doesn't have the strongest arm...would not be a good fit here in Pittsburgh. He might be fine in Dallas or LA or Arizona, but not here...
Coolie is right about Lynch. He folded down the stretch in Houston. No thanks.

As for who might be coming out in the next few years, there are a number of them...but Chad Kelly at Ole Miss will be an interesting prospect, and so will Will Grier who transferred from Florida this year after a PED suspension. That kid has all the game, just has to get his head right. There's also going to be Deshawn Watson (Clemson), Malik Ziere (ND) and several other very talented kids. ...and like I said, they "have a chance to be better"... I didn't say they are better now.

We need to to get a good QB and groom him.
 
I voted "no" - while I can see the reasoning behind this poll - I cannot justify the need at other positions on the field over a QB at 1.25...

watched the QB drills at the combine. Goff may be a good player on the field in college but compared to Lynch and Wentz, his balls needed more time to get to the receiver. He had to put more air under them, which isnt ideal against quicker, faster, better CBs in the NFL.

Ill say this every time this subject comes up... Anytime you think a real franchise qb is available you take him, regardless of need elsewhere... Every time..... Ben could play till he is 45 or he can be done in game 1 of this season...

I spent my childhood watching mark malone and bubby brister because the steelers thought bradshaw was playing 5 more years andpassed on Marino....

I know I would be in the extreme minority here, but I would absolutely take Coker or Kevin Hogan in the later rounds. I think both have some potential...especially Hogan.
 
If we weren't a couple of defensive players away from the Super Bowl, sure. But we are, so no way.

Malone was a first round pick.

Why would that put you in the "extreme minority"? Very few people would argue against taking a QB late.

The subject of this thread is whether to take one in the first round.
 
Future is now... Ben is good for a couple good runs at the Lombardi. I understand your logic but there is no guarantee that the qb you pick and invest in will be any good. Stay the coarse draft for defense, shore up the secondary add more pass rushers. Let's go get #7
 
Take a midbor late round qb. Let Landry and the qb from dallas fight for the #2 and #3 spots.
