I Heard a Rumor

Again, while I am very typically tough on Tomlin (and I'm not going to be too easy on him here as he should have seen the first half coming a bit sooner...) I believe the Steelers believed somewhat foolishly that because the Broncos have such a solid running game that they would employ more of that against the Steelers.

Thus the initial gameplan defensively was to stop the run and force Osweiler to throw the ball into zone coverage. Of course, the way the Steelers secondary has played lately, nobody is really worried about throwing against our zone and it looks like Kubiak, a fellow who knows us pretty well said, "Hey, we can throw on these guys easy!" So, Denver came in planning from the get go to throw the ball. Thus, the gameplan, even if WAS initially executed more or less properly was completely wrong for the situation.

What should have happened almost immediately after the "scripted" plays was the coaching staff should have seen that Denver was eating Pittsburgh alive in the short throws in the zone and they should have switched things up sooner. There's no way they should have allowed 27 consecutive points and easy ones at that. (Well, one of those TDs was an epic mistake when either Blake or Gay misunderstood who was supposed to blitz. Clearly ONE of them was supposed to remain in coverage!)

Anyway, they eventually got that **** straightened out. I'm afraid for Blake's sake that his days as a pure starter are just about done. At least they ought to be. I'm sure he tries hard but the team simply plays better with different personnel and I don't think that's just crazy fan-speak. Perhaps Blake just needs some time on the bench to get his perspective screwed on tighter. I don't know but he isn't performing well enough out there. The stiff-arm TD was a defining moment. I have no personal vendetta against the guy, he just was beaten down and thrown aside not just literally, but metaphorically on that play. I'm sorry man. Put that on tape and use it to improve your game for next year. But right now, we need somebody a bit sharper. It aint personal.
 
There is no reason for Tomlin to not tell the truth. Anybody with eyes can see they changed what they were doing and who they were playing. He surely isn't keeping it from other teams around the league. The tape is there.... sounds like the "Colbert will hide the pen" **** from a few years ago. It makes no different because everybody can see it.

Maybe he is trying to deflect any credit and implying that the players deserve the credit for playing better.

But it doesn't do that. It makes him look like he's trying to be cute and playing games with the media/people. Everybody that watched the game knows that it isn't true. So why say it? Why not say what really happened? It makes no sense.

Because he is a coach and he is giving credit to his players. Obviously he doesn't care about the media. His players are his only concern as well they should be. He doesn't need or want to say I or we coaches made adjustments. He would rather give the credit to his players. Sounds like a coach well equipped in handling the dynamics of his locker room. Probably another reason his players like playing for him.
 
I think AJ stated a good reason. Leaders take blame and redirect praise. They are leadership techniques to strengthen team building, both in business and in sport.

If he didn't care he wouldn't point at the camera and play games. He cares a great deal obviously. He also wouldn't tell **** that isn't true if he didn't care. The players know exactly what happened and they know he is full of it when he says things that aren't true. Him giving credit to the players makes no sense because they know the truth.

So showing emotion is playing games lol..I'm not even going to respond to the rest of the nonsense other then to say you and Tas are sad. How you can nitpick and find away to criticize and not enjoy after a win like that is beyond me.
 
I suppose Vader, but I'm the owner at the brewery and yet when I am out in public with one of my employees I ALWAYS say "I work WITH so and so." Never "So and so works FOR me." While both of us know that I'm the boss and the the other person is the employee, a degree of politeness and dignity is afforded that I like to think my employees appreciate.

Again, I'm no Tomlin lover, but I can see where his deflecting of self-aggrandizement for adjustements (which would have been made by the defensive staff anyway), can be seen as a nod to the players and his coaches.

In the end, I stand by what I said earlier. I don't give a **** HOW it happened. the Steelers FINALLY made a halftime adjustment under Tomlin's watch. If I'm going to give him **** for things I see him do badly, I'll give him credit for things that go well under his watch also. Fair is fair.

I think you are right that his players know more about him than anyone-even you. And I don't think they tend to share your opinion of him.
 
Insert Boykin, exit Blake. That was the adjustment I saw. Gay went outside with Boykin in the slot. Worked well. Let's keep Blake off the field.

As the owner of a brewery I wonder how you would appreciate a constant critique of your operation by people who's basic knowledge of it is that they drink the product. I'm sure coaches feel that way.
