At some point, the Steelers decided to take away the short throws from Osweiler, and make him beat them down the field; he could not do it. They had Boykin glued to the slot receiver, the corners (Gay and Cockrell) playing tighter coverage inside 10 yards and making plays on the short throws. They also had Golden in the game in the 2nd half, and most notably, Blake on the sidelines.
The increased playing time for Cockrell, Boykin and Golden, and the effort to challenge the short passes, led to a dominant 2nd half performance. The defense had a chance for four interceptions, but for the drops by Boykin, Golden, and Allen.
Kudos to the coaching staff. That 2nd half defense looked NOTHING like the embarrassing showing of the 1st half.
