I Heard a Rumor

That this Tomlin guy can't make halftime adjustments

I heard one also....He didn't make any this game.....so he says anyways :)

He may not have noticed. Maybe Butler pulled the strings and Tomlin thought the players just played better

This game not withstanding, the reputation was well deserved.

I've been as hard as anyone on Tomlin but I'll give credit where it's due. One of my TOP ******* about his coaching is the lack of halftime adjustment. Well, whether the coaches "made" adjustments or not some ******* adjustments got made so I'll credit the coaching staff and ultimately Tomlin for that.

That's the kind of thing you want to see out of your head coach. Well played!

Its weird... start Blake then adjust to Boykin enough times and that rumor will go away quick... or you know, just bench the guy who cant cover and look good from the get go... whatever floats your boat

Whoever made the changes, they were obvious. I do respect that Tomlin does not and has not thrown players under the bus. It is about team, and he does preach that. could be like in Baltimore with their hack coach who points fingers every week at players, other coaches and refs

What about the boswell kid, LEADING ALL nfl kickers since coming into the league. Tomlin and crew made great adjustments through out the game.

Salute the nation

I hear "halftime adjustments" all the time. I'm not an expert X and O's guy so what exactly did Tomlin adjust?

I know the defense got an adjustment from Peezy!

According to Tomlin they didn't adjust...

I heard a rumor that Joey Porter lit into the defense's *** at half time. It goes that he told them that they are NOT a Steeler defense, but rather an embarrassment to all the great defense's that have played here. Heard he was incredibly vocal and got the fuse lit under that D's butts.

Also, the added playing time by Boykin was noticeable in the second half as well.

That makes sense to most folks.

Well did Blake play in the second half? I'm really not sure. But I do know that they probably don't have a double corner blitz like on the Sanders touchdown, because both Gay and Blake went. I know he got completely destroyed on the Thomas hitch TD and he couldn't break up a pass that should have been intercepted. So if we are going to hold up allowing Blake to continue to start as good coaching and then finally pull him when it becomes too obvious, I don't know what to say. They adjusted and played tighter coverage (looked like more man, but I'm hesitant to say that cause I was too wrapped up in the game) instead of essentially vacating the middle as they did in the first half. I'm extremely happy with the win and it was heart stopping exciting. But lets not glaze over that the team was poorly prepared in their game plan and was totally undisciplined in the first half. The team and its coaching staff owns the whole game film. Not just the second half.

I also heared that Rostweiler (sp?) was hurt in the 2nd half also with a bad shouder.

Halftime adjustments are for college football. NFL teams make adjustments in between series.

At some point, the Steelers decided to take away the short throws from Osweiler, and make him beat them down the field; he could not do it. They had Boykin glued to the slot receiver, the corners (Gay and Cockrell) playing tighter coverage inside 10 yards and making plays on the short throws. They also had Golden in the game in the 2nd half, and most notably, Blake on the sidelines.

The increased playing time for Cockrell, Boykin and Golden, and the effort to challenge the short passes, led to a dominant 2nd half performance. The defense had a chance for four interceptions, but for the drops by Boykin, Golden, and Allen.

Kudos to the coaching staff. That 2nd half defense looked NOTHING like the embarrassing showing of the 1st half.

I do remember Blake on one play in the 2nd half when they went deep to Thomas and he caught but was barely out of bounds. On that play, he was beat badly as well. Do not remember seeing him on the field again after that. Shame he can't tackle well enough to even be on special teams
