How should we use Jaylen Samuels?

Well if he does it again this year without earning a trip to the Superbowl, maybe the front office will be replacing him with a new set of wheels at the HC position.
Can someone please tell me of any coaching names that have been picked by other teams off of the Mike Tomlin Coaching TREE or should I refer to it as a shrub.
Who has he developed over the last 11 years ?
I do give him credit for a successful won loss record but he has been supplied with some very talented players during his career. Most would like to see some results that take us deep into the play offs.

To be fair, Tomlin was a young coach who inherited his coordinators from a franchise that doesn't like a lot of change. Arians did get coach of the year and became a HC. There just hasn't been a lot of turnover on the coaching staff, so it's tougher to make a large coaching tree, when your coaches are still here.

Arians was on the staff before Tomlin took over. Also the reason coaches are still here is because no other team is interested in them. Seriously, who wants Peezy to be their coach? What young coaches has Tomlin mentored that other teams want?

Usually teams pull coordinators to be coaches on other teams. What's the turnover on coordinators leaving under Tomlin? 2 on O and 1 on D? So again, the sample rate is tiny for this Coach. So 1 out of those 3 got coach of the year (which Tomlin promoted to OC from being a position coach), LeBeau is still one of the greatest football minds, though isn't Tomlin's guy, and everyone hates Haley when they work with him, so you have that.

Munchak and Haley, both former HC's agreed to come work for Tomlin. Haley, you might understand, but why would munchak want to work for such a ****** HC? Especially, as simply an OL coach? Seems like he could have had his choice of gigs. Only left for personal issues.

I don't disagree with your pecking order but this team needs to become a lot more unpredictable.
If secondary level players have talents that go unused because one player is getting all the touches, you are limiting your team's success and wearing out your top players prematurely. You can still have a lead RB in Conner but it would be nice to see Samuels and Snell consume a higher % of touches. I think it is better to know what you have in a player by utilizing them throughout the season, instead of hoping they can carry the load after your #1 guy goes down to injury. It can also increase those younger players confidence if they can contribute in some form.

I think our offense stopped being predictAble the day we traded AB

Probably because he needed a job? He just got fired from the Titans. Do you know who had job openings that year? You believe he could have just picked one? Who offered him a job since he was so sought after?

Agree I think trading AB will force us to innovate some new schemes. Not really a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. After all football is a team sport.

I agree Tomlin was a very young coach and I had never really even heard of him before the Steelers hired him. He is now, I think the 2nd longest tenured HC in the league behind only Bill B. in New England. You would think now that he has established himself, there would be some lineage forming behind him. Who are the young guys progressing up the coaching ranks? I think Bruce Arians is a good coach but he has being doing it since the 1970's and has served under legends like Paul BEAR Bryant. He was a HC at Temple and spent many years in the NFL prior to being around Tomlin so I do not associate his accomplishment directly to Tomlin appointing him OC. Guys like Mike Mularkey and Ken Whisenhunt served under Cowher and they moved on to HC positions. I think the fact that it is hard for any of us to come up with names could also be a reflection that this is one of Tomlin's weaker attributes.
We have witnessed other elder coaches being brought into the Steelers staff like Karl Dunbar, Tom Bradley and Terryl Austin in recent years.
I don't really care how the Steelers get it done with coaching as long as they figure it out and take the team forward.
I get that the Patriots have had great success over the years and they lose coaches quite frequently to other teams but somehow they seem to find another guy to plug into their system and carry on.
I don't expect every coach to develop a large coaching tree but after 11 years I wish I could see signs of a new bud starting to blossom.

I don't know, I'm not his agent.

Yeah, isn't that just crazy?

as a Charles bell type receiver use on screens run some circle and triangle routes and toss plays.

You said you thought he could have his pick of the jobs.... So I thought you knew something. Obviously he didn't because he went from a HC to a offensive line coach. Like I said... he needed a job.

I've been told, on this board, what a fantastic OL coach he is and what a great HC he would be for us. Seems to me, if it is so obvious here he wasn't scraping the bottom of the barrel for a job. Much less keeping it. You think he was broke after a gajillion years in the NFL?

So I think this kid has some special skills, yet he's not an every down back.

I think he can pick up some of the slack from AB's production, albeit in a different way.

2 back sets would be killer because HE IS ALWAYS A THREAT...He can run, he has great hands & is pretty slippery after the catch.

I'd like to see him lined up in the Backfield with Conners/Snell.

How about on the goal line in a critical game do a THREE BACK SET? T Formtion anyone on the goal line? ( Or how about MARYLAND I or POWER I?)...

I like your thinking. We need an offensive coordinator with a little more ingenuity. The Patriots and Andy Reid always seem to surprise teams with something they never seen before. Love the two back set you are suggesting. Why has this been totally taken out of football? On third and medium to short, this could create very interesting matchup problems that a good coach and QB is always looking for.

Don't sell Randy Fitchner short at OC. He had better offense than Todd"surfer dude". Randy will twist with the new talent and it will show on the field. Just curious as to who you feel you'd replace him with????

Much better at personnel mismatches and situational play calling.

He never wanted to be a head coach he was forced into the titans HC job, he said if he didn’t take the job he would have been let go. He prefers to be a OLine coach because he’s good at it and loves to teach.

ONE thing for certain is I wish he was still here. His public acknowledgement of leaving to be closer to family I would guess has a lot of accuracy to it. BUT on the private side I'm sure he HATED the ****-show of the "certain" p-layers and their conduct, including the HEAD COACH.

Tomlin is weak all the way around as a coach and many "gaffs" have shown that. I hope CMVLT can step up his coaching game to off-set his OL coaching loss. Something between owner and coach happened at end of season as when tomlin gave first(s) interview at season end, his eyes showed a plain and simple HAMMER was dropped and this **** isn't going to happen anymore. WE can see it in a lot of aspects going forward. I hope he can bring "IT" to game day coaching as well.

I think that Samuels gives us a lot of unpredictability when on the field and when you put him, Connor, Mcdonald, JuJu and whoever wins the 2nd WR spot. They can do everything from 5 wide to two TE sets with Samuels being an HBack... It could create matchup issues depending on down and distance and with the NFL substitution rules the way they are.
