How should we use Jaylen Samuels?

So I think this kid has some special skills, yet he's not an every down back.

I think he can pick up some of the slack from AB's production, albeit in a different way.

2 back sets would be killer because HE IS ALWAYS A THREAT...He can run, he has great hands & is pretty slippery after the catch.

I'd like to see him lined up in the Backfield with Conners/Snell.

How about on the goal line in a critical game do a THREE BACK SET? T Formtion anyone on the goal line? ( Or how about MARYLAND I or POWER I?)...
 
Well, he's currently our No. 2 RB and very capable as he proved last year running and receiving. Not sure of his size but maybe they slide him over to TE. Didn't he play that a lot in college.
 
Conner starts. Samuel is the backup. Snell is 3rd string. period.

Too much of a square peg in a square hole for me. I think we need to be creative here...

Not to tug on Supermans Cape, but oh what the hell.....

I don't disagree with your pecking order but this team needs to become a lot more unpredictable.
If secondary level players have talents that go unused because one player is getting all the touches, you are limiting your team's success and wearing out your top players prematurely. You can still have a lead RB in Conner but it would be nice to see Samuels and Snell consume a higher % of touches. I think it is better to know what you have in a player by utilizing them throughout the season, instead of hoping they can carry the load after your #1 guy goes down to injury. It can also increase those younger players confidence if they can contribute in some form.

What do you mean by unpredictable? I’m really glad you are not on our coaching staff.

A predictable offense is what we have suffered from WAY too much over the past few years...we need some unpredictability on the coaching staff as far as offensive & defensive schemes are concerned. Or I guess a better term, "innovative"

Basically, once in a while utilize guys like Samuels or Snell in game situations. If they have a specific talent the coaching staff should be able to recognize a time and place to use it during a game.
For years Tomlin has had a philosophy of using a RB and running him until the wheels come off. How many times has that hurt us leading into the play offs
Willie Parker, L Bell as an example Heck a good part of the L Bell saga surrounded the amount of use he feared getting under the tag.
I was just reading an article today on the NFL site in which Kevin Colbert was discussing the topic of using RBBC instead of relying heavily on one RB.
He mentioned his time in Detroit when they had Barry Sanders. This guy was a human highlight reel and they didn't really have a strong supporting cast that I can remember, so he basically was the offense. I don't regard the Steelers as having a Barry Sanders type player available or the team not having a collection of skilled supporting players on offense. If Kevin Colbert is putting this out there in the media maybe Tomlin might consider adapting his approach somewhat.
At the end the author did suggest that would be something for the coaching staff to consider.
LA Rams just added Darrell Henderson RB Memphis to the mix. Todd Gurley is an expensive beast on the field, but even he can't be on it all the time.

Not for long. Conner will get hurt (hope not, but it's likely), Snell gets more carries and takes over starting role within a few weeks of JC going down. Remember when
Parker was 3rd string and ended up the starter? Same thing will happen.
 
Apparently, Samuels is our speed back.

i think it will be Conner and Snell as the main backs, subbing in and out when one needs a blow. Samuels will be the 3rd down back.
 
He is a gadget guy. That is how he will be used.

That's a good way to describe it.

During this season I would like to hear the following broadcaster's phrases uttered in association with the Steelers on a regular basis
Successful Game Plan
Timely in- game adjustment by the Steelers staff
Another 3 and OUT for the Steeler's DEF
Short list of Steelers on the Injury Report
Ben is distributing the ball well
Successful challenge by Tomlin
The kick is up, the kick is good !

Let me hear a couple of those things and I will be more content with the end result
 
I think we should run him every down . They will never expect that!

Have a look at it and see that even the front office is considering new ways of operating.

As for the coaching staff comment you sent, please elaborate as to what I stated in my post that would bring you to that conclusion.

I have enjoyed many years of playing and coaching sports(not at the pro level) and many years supervising and training people in the workforce.
I believe everyone who puts in the time and effort may have the opportunity to contribute on some level. If someone is eager to learn you teach them or coach them up to the best of your ability. If you don't have the answers find someone that does. If they deserve the opportunity put them in play.
I believe the mark of a good coach is measured by the success of his staff and players. You may not always have the best team on the field but you can still be prepared and give the best effort.

You may be happy and content with our coaching staff on the Steelers but I think there is always room for improvement. If they don't have the respect of the staff and players they need to find a way to earn it, evolve or step aside.

I still think he can be a starting slot receiver in this league, but the Steelers haven't thought to do that with him yet. Would love 2 back sets then see him go in motion to the slot to run patterns. That will screw with some Ds.

Cope, I thought that as well. I think several here were under that impression. I'd love to see a two back, in motion set. We have the tools but I think the lack of trust / faith / utilization / gamblers / or ingenuity from our head coach will allow this mystic to happen. A miss-direction play action out of a two back set could be pretty good play occasionally, couple that in with the motion to slot and YES we have success.

He will get a little leaner in the offseason, develop a little more elusiveness and speed.. then all of a sudden he’ll be a serious offensive weapon

Well if he does it again this year without earning a trip to the Superbowl, maybe the front office will be replacing him with a new set of wheels at the HC position.
Can someone please tell me of any coaching names that have been picked by other teams off of the Mike Tomlin Coaching TREE or should I refer to it as a shrub.
Who has he developed over the last 11 years ?
I do give him credit for a successful won loss record but he has been supplied with some very talented players during his career. Most would like to see some results that take us deep into the play offs.
