How long should the Steelers give Bell to sign the tag offer of 14.5 million?

Right now, he's limiting our future planning for the draft and free agency. Will he sit out the season? Not likely. Will he sign a week before the season? I hope not, as he will be rusty ( as he was last year when he reported late ) and he's already making much more than the other backs in the NFL.

If Bell wants to play this year with good intentions, the best thing to do is sign the tag now. If he wants to seek a trade, he needs to sign first. In theory, another team can offer him a better deal.

I say give Bell until early April to sign or flat out release him. Then the Steelers will have more time to react in free agency and prepare for drafting a back. With 14.5 million, we can get an elite level player and another good player that starts if Bell is released.

They'll give him as long as he wants is my guess. I would seriously be looking at free agents and talking with them. If the right FA or two at the right price comes by, I'd grab them and pull his tag. Then we draft a RB in Rd. 1 or 2. That has to be an option for them. If not, they are bigger fools than I thought.

As long as he wants hurts the Steelers.

If he does not sign the tag amount by the draft, it leaves the Steelers guessing about when he will. I'd rather know well before the draft that he signed. If not, release him, use the 14.5 M in cap space elsewhere, and draft a RB, most likely in round two or three.

I wouldn't pull it from the table at all. We have offered it. Now will keep there until he signs it...whether its a week before the season starts or after week 10. The tag will be there for Bell to sign. Personally, I think it will play out like last season. If we pull it we lose out compensatory pick next off-season. It would be foolish to pull it at anytime now. We basically are all in with Bell this season. One(more year) and done.

They will not budge from their offer which is more than fair. Unfortunately his stubbornness is going to limit our F/A strategy. I will tell you this. I do not think this football team will ever win a championship with the likes of the me first guys on this team. I don’t like the chemistry at all.

not every idea that pops in your head should be put into a public forum.
this is one of those.

Having the offer out there does nothing, as far as I can see, with regard to signing someone.

If it isn't signed and they can still talk with whomever, negotiate with whomever and agree on contract details with whomever. Before any new person signs the contract, they may have pull the tag, which should get rid of the the cap space issue associated with the tag and sign the player they want. Correct? If so, there is no hindrance.

Pulling the tag would be totally idiotic. He will play and everything will work itself out.

Agreed but that is my guess as to what they will do. We won't sign any free agents and we will have to hope we can get a starting S and ILB in the draft and then hope we don't have any injuries. Definitely a lot of hoping and praying needed for us to win it all next year. Our O should be good but I see no reason to think our D will be any better than it was at the end of this past year. We are making no moves to improve.

He will sign it about the same time as last year. He's not going to miss any games. He might be stupid, but he's not that stupid as to sit out games and not get a paycheck.

He was stupid enough to get busted smoking weed with Blount and have to sit out games and not get a paycheck. He was then stupid enough to miss/ignore his summons to a couple of random drug tests and get suspended and not get a paycheck. One thing we should not count on is Lev Bell's not being stupid enough to cost himself money.

Steelers have until July 16th to get him under contract. I think they would like to do that. They bought time with the current franchise tag.

My biggest worry is this. Bell knows he is likely going to be a UFA next year. I worry that he will sign the tag, then come in and half step and play not to get hurt so as not to hurt his value for next year. If he blows a knee, he can forget about $15 or $17 million or whatever the hell he is asking for. Personally, I think he can forget about it anyway. He is going to find out that teams just don't place that high of a value on RB's. Even Le'veon Bell.

Poor strategy. The Steelers are already 10M under the cap and can move for who they want. Bell was signed to be used this year. He will again bulk at a multiyear deal next year and will hit free agency. Enjoy Bell's last season, because the Steelers aren't giving him away for nothing.

I hope our schedule is light the first 3-4 games. Missing OTA and camp did have an impact on Bell's early season.

Blount has two super bowl rings since leaving here and works cheaper. Bell zero super bowl rings and appearances and wants a whole lot more.
Do not think we need to over pay for this guy. Proven you do not need a LevBe$$ to win.

Screw Bell. Time to move on. He wants too much. Draft a rb.

Where did you hear that? Last I saw they were still about $5 million or so under. Sign the rookies and maybe a vet minimum player is all you get for that.

OMG!!!! compared to similarly highly touted RB's from the prior year, who WERE in camp, the difference between them and Bell was not significant enough to verify this is, actually, true.

Well we do have a franchise QB and All Pro WR should be fine since we really dont need Bell anyway

One more DUI and he could miss eight games. Not only is Bell overrated and not worth 14.5 million, but he's also a risk on and off the field, and a distraction. He needs to sign the deal, or the Steelers should pull it off the table

Since when does an athlete scheduled to make 14.5 million a year in a one year deal threaten to sit out the season or report late?

Dan Rooney would not stand for this.

Could've signed Lewis and Hyde for their 5 million/per each and still had almost 5 million left over.

A. You are wrong. He would only miss 4 games if he violated the substance abuse program. His previous violation resulted in no change in his status in the program.

B. Apparently the idiots who are throwing out ridiculous contracts to RB's who had significantly less of an impact than Bell are actually helping him prove what his point is.

C. Do you need it painted on your forehead? If they pull the tag, they forfeit any compensation for Bell next year as a FA. Stupid is as stupid thinks....
