So I woke up and saw this on ESPN.com. Now easy with the flame throwers Nation! I too was all, "WTF? Ngata is washed up. Fowler is on crack. Where did this come from?" . But, then I read his point and it does make some sense. I mean think about it. If he drops to the right price and we can't secure a solid DB in FA, and if we can sign Kelvin or Ramon wouldn't a vet at NT be worth the short term deal? I know...that's a lot of "ifs". It's the off season...I'm bored. He'll probably command to much $$ and he is NO spring chicken. Ah, like I said...I'm bored, but honestly I have to get off the throne to get ready for work.
It's Monday. ..have fun with it.

Story and link below.

Nose tackle Haloti Ngata

The Steelers will wait for the market to simmer, then secure the proven nose tackle who can still rush the passer on a sensible two-year deal. Good corners will be too expensive, so the Steelers will build through the draft while re-signing William Gay or maybe Brandon Boykin. Ngata would give the Steelers flexibility to mix and match defensive fronts alongside ends Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt. According to Pro Football Focus, Ngata had 33 pass-rush pressures in 2015. -- Jeremy Fowler

I see nothing wrong with this. If he doesn't want Alot why not. Good fit. Can play DE/NT. Better fit then Cam Thomas

They didn't use him right, he didn't get his chance, he'd look good in B & G............yadda yaaaDa Ngata............
If the price fits, try on the shoe...

Salute the nation

It's not like we're made of money and every free agent we are going to get is age 26-27.

These are the type of 1-2 year fixes the Steelers do in free agency. Some don't work, some do. He'd be better than Cam Thomas (I don't know how that guy has stuck around for as long as he has).

All depends on price.

So I read that Boykin tweeted that hes a free agent and looking fwd to offers from other teams because he is no longer a Steeler. Is that not the case?

Saw and read the article. I'll pass. Once a rat always a rat. Hope he goes back to them.

IIRC ngata did a lot of cheap shots on Ben, don't want any part of that POS

I honestly don't know how much Ngata has left, but it wouldn't take much to replace a guy like Cam Thomas on the roster. Ngata is a guy I'd consider if he can still play and is cheap.

33 qb pressures from the NT is pretty good I'd say? Better then McClendon at stuffing the run.

he would allow us to use so many different formations with his ability to play both DT and DE
Surely at this stage he wants to play for a contender and it will be key to keep him away from the pats or Denver
2.5 mill a year sign him, let Blake and and Mclendon walk.

it's all about price. He could still be very effective as a backup with limited snaps

What about Terrance Knighton? Saw him on NFLnetwork tonight saying all the right things, is he affordable?

.

Ngata is really at his best in a 2-gap system. We are no longer a predominantly 2-gap system.

That said... Haloti has been amazing in his ability to stay on the field. He has started 147 games in his 160 game career... UNBELIEVABLE for a big man. He has AVERAGED 14.7 games for ten years. His WORST season was two years ago... he started 12 games. Impressive.
