Golson Carted Off

The thing is that I think some of these guys over train themselves and create too much power for what their connective tissues can withstand. Anytime I see guys go out with non contact injuries in mid twenties like this I feel that way. Hell there are 40 somethings all over playing adult basketball, hockey, flag football. They aren't in one tenth of tge shape a dude like this us. But they also can't move like him neither and there is the difference.

Exactly.

Mid-foot anything and needing to be carted off means he misses camp and doesn't see much, if any, of the field in year 2. Even when we draft for the secondary, it doesn't work out. If he gets injured next year, cut him and move on.

Some player's bodies just can't take the grind of playing in the NFL. They have the talent in spades, they just don't have the tools. I would guess it's just a matter of genetics.

And so it begins. Tomlin says next man up, but it always seems like who's next to go down.
****.

Well, this isn't good. The next man up for slot corner is a rookie who had major issues as a corner in college.

Lis Franc could be a career killer. All those "mid foot" bones are a big issue if something serious happens to them.

Same thing happened to that Florida State returner we took back in 2006 in the 3rd round. He took all the preseason punt return duties then Cowher sat his *** as inactive the first few weeks (while we watched Colclough try to catch punts over his head)... when the kid finally got his shot he planted has back foot wrong on his first punt return, got a lis franc injury and was never the same again.

Wasn't that kid named Reid?
Dude never recovered.

Coach - I am assuming you are currently toasting yourself due to Golson going down?
You are pathetic man.

So true.
With a Lis Franc injury there appears to be a 50/50 chance at full recovery. After my daughter had her Lis Franc I did some research and it seemed about half of the people had a full recovery and half continued to suffer the effects at various levels. No doubt the extent of the injury has a lot to do with it.

My daughter fractured one bone and had ruptured tendons. A freak accident while playing pick up basketball at West Point...she could have been dismissed from the Academy . Thank God she fully recovered.

Did not Laveon Bell have a Lis Franc?

I wonder if 12 weeks means that he can come back NFL week 8?

Steelers' Senquez Golson: Could miss up to 12 weeks
by RotoWire Staff 16m ago

Golson (foot) has a Lisfranc injury that could keep him out for 12 weeks, NFL Network's Aditi Kinkhabwala reports.
A 2015 second-round selection (56th overall), Golson missed his entire rookie season after suffering a shoulder injury early in training camp. The Steelers hoped he and 2016 first-rounder Artie Burns could help repair an oft-burnt secondary, but it now appears Golson will miss at least the first few games of the season. Burns, meanwhile, figures to battle Ross Cockrell for the starting job across from William Gay.

Sign Leon Hall to play slot.

Steelers SCB Senquez Golson is out 12 weeks with a Lisfranc injury in his foot.

It sounds like a sprain and not a fracture, but it's still a huge blow to the Steelers' secondary. The 56th overall pick in last year's draft, Golson was markered in as Pittsburgh's starting slot corner. They will likely turn back to William Gay on the interior, with Ross Cockrell and raw rookie Artie Burns manning the boundaries. Golson missed all of 2015 due to shoulder surgery.

They'll put him on IR. No reason to bring him back in mid-season to ride the pine. 2 years in the league and hasn't made it to the regular season yet and he may never. That sucks.

Tuesday morning it was reported that Pittsburgh Steelers second-year cornerback Senquez Golson suffered a Lisfranc injury during Monday’s training camp practice that could possibly keep him out of action for the next 12 weeks. Should that report wind up being confirmed by the team, there’s a good chance that Golson will start the 2016 regular season on the Reserve/Injured list.

Thanks to a rule change this past offseason, the Steelers won’t have to designate Golson as an injured reserve player who can return later in the season upon placing him on the list, should that ultimately be the course of action. The new bylaw that was passed by NFL team owners during the offseason states that teams can choose one player to return to practice among their players already on injured reserve, provided that player has spent at least six weeks on injured reserve. That player would then be able to return to the active roster and play in a game two weeks later.

In other words, the Steelers can wait and see what ultimately happens not only with Golson and his rehab, but other long-term injuries that might take place as well in the coming weeks and months. This at least gives them some degree of flexibility when it comes to Golson and perhaps a few other future injured players.

However, being as Golson’s injury took place during the early stages of training camp, he’ll have roughly five full weeks of rehab behind him prior to the Steelers needing to decide whether or not they want to place him on their Reserve/Injured list. While it’s probably a long shot to happen, they could ultimately decide to carry Golson on their initial 53-man roster with hopes that he can return to action during the first quarter of the season. If, however, in five weeks they know he’s still 7 or more weeks away from being fully healthy, it would of course make sense to place him on the Reserve/Injured list for a possible return during the second half of the regular season.

While the original designated to return rule was a welcome change, it didn’t work in the Steelers favor last year as center Maurkice Pouncey wound up missing the entire 2015 season due to him needing multiple surgeries after initially breaking his fibula during the preseason. Being as the Steelers had placed the designated return tag on Pouncey just prior to Week 1, other players who may have had less than season-ending injuries weren’t afforded the opportunity to return to action after being placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list.

In before Coach blames this on physical practices

If Hall goes to the Bengals we could always bring Cortez Allen back for the vet MIN and try him in the slot. We do have some decent cb depth, but Hall would be a nice fit.

Basically this is Sean Spence 2.0? Will Tomlin and co. Hold onto Golson 2 years from now hoping that he'll be able to recover and overcome these obstacles?

This blows. Another totally wasted season for the guy.

A 2nd rounder.

Why is he such a China Doll?

I agree with the sign. But wouldn't IR him yet. If it is 12 weeks end of October. 6 is third game of the season. I'd hate to drop a guy without ever seeing him in games. If he doesn't play this year you pretty much gotta dump him.
