Going for Two

some of you folks would ***** about a blowjob.....The Steelers came from behind and won on the road against a division opponent and maintained their one game lead in the division...but sure, crying about a call you disagree with shows what a great objective fan you are....

It was a great come from behind win, on the road, against a divisional rival and I'm elate about it. No crying here, just discussing the reasoning for going for the conversion. I never thought we were out of it. They were frustrating me with the FGs, but they kept chipping away and it was a matter of time before the O punched one in. With the Killer B's, they are never out it.

I'm elated over the win, never thought the game was over, but I thought we should've kicked the extra point.

We are going to have to agree to disagree.

Don't like going for 2 on the first score, or other Tomlin decisions on going for 2, but this one made sense to me and all the charts I've looked at.

Peace on earth and goodwill toward men, except those 53 guys comin from Baltimore.

Going for 2 is smart. Going for 2 in an empty back set, not so much...

If the Steelers kick the extra point, the Bengals would certainly go for 2 if they scored a touchdown. Thus the Steelers would trail by either 1 or 3 points. The Steelers going for 2 there is really a coin flip decision where positives and negatives pretty much are even.

THIS................................ If you are going to go for two, then at least make the D defend both run and pass.

Salute the nation

It was probably the right call to go for two. If the Steelers go up six, that is a good spot to be in with all of the XP misses this year. Without Miller and Bryant, this team doesn't have the same type of weapons that they had last year when they were so successful.

Kick the XP, you are up by 5. Even if the Bungles get a TD and 2pt. Conversion, you are still a FG away from tying it up. Missing on the 2pt conversion means if the Bungles score a TD and 2pt conversion, we now need a TD. It is common sense and defies math and football logic.

Common sense, math, and football logic would dictate that the Bengals would've simply kicked the extra point to go up 27-24 had they scored a go-ahead touchdown. Why the hell would they try to make it 28-24, and risk having a field goal lead?

That being said, I disagreed with the decision, although there was some merit in going for the six point lead.

It certainly wasn't as bad a choice as spiking the ball on 2nd-and-2 from the 31 with 15 seconds left before halftime. Good thing they wasted a down, put their last timeout in Tomlin's pocket, and took it into the locker room. Very helpful.

yep, that is why Tomlin was able to get to 100 wins faster than Cowher....faster than Noll also...but Noll started with less....

Noll took over the worst team in the NFL and went 1-13 his first year cleaning out the garbage. He also won 4 Super Bowls in those years.

Tomlin inherited a great team and a franchise QB. Who already won a Super Bowl. Tomlin is no Noll.

Up 4 you go for 1 ... and that way if they score a td a field goal wins it not ties it... at that stage in the game playing for a two fg lead is dumb

Tomlin inherited a team that went 8-8.

That's misleading though. The team was still loaded but Ben got hit by a car and had an emergency appendectomy. It probably didn't help that Cowher's wife was very sick at that time as well. The team had a horrible start.

That team started 2-6 and finished 6-2 so they got things turned around, they were just in a hole with injuries, especially Ben who was not right until mid season. Ben threw 14 INTs in those first 7 games (Batch started week 1).

This ^^

The Steelers have gone for 2 twenty (20) times the past two seasons, and have passed EVERY FREAKING TIME.

Opposition is not looking to stop the run, ever. That is why the success rate has declined, and why the team is just one for its past seven (1-7).

This offense has an all pro RB, All pro WR, and nice threat in a huge TE and Ben as its signal caller. I like my options for going for 2 pts at the 2 yard line every time. Now, if we only had a utility player like Tebow for a spread option, 4 wide, wrinkle

Anyone know if Tomlin has explained his thinking on going for two?

I listened to some of the post game and have yet to hear a reasonable explanation. Was it another "went with my gut" decision?

Up by 4 means 2 FG's beat you. Up by 5 means 2 FG's beat you. Up by 6 means 2 FG's tie you. Either way a TD beats you. What's to question?

Again, with 7 minutes left. The odds they convert TWO FGs are far less likely than the odds they score ONE TD. Had the Steelers taken the extra point, the Ravens need to go for two themselves to prevent the Steelers from being able to then win the game with a FG.

Obviously questionable.

Sounds good on paper but they are 33% on two point conversions this year, and they were not exactly having an easy time putting it in the end zone yesterday.

He explains it all the time.

"We don't live in our fears."

Thought going for 2 in that situation made zero sense. Go up 5 and if the Bungles scored a TD we would have needed a FG to take the lead. It would have forced the Bungles to go for a 2 point conversion in addition to scoring a TD. Not converting left us where even if we kicked a FG on a later drive we would only have a one score lead.

but, being up by 5, if CIN scores a TD, they are up by two and all we would need is a FG for the lead. No need for the 2 pt conversion there. You leave points on the field, which is not a good thing. Against Dallas, it was a disaster and it may/may not have cost us the game, but was a definite "ugh" moment.

THIS!! I was thinking the same thing. Just take the ******* points, you may need them.

Google 2 point charts. Show me the one you are going to use, and what percentage you've researched say that?

Beat the Ravens.

Your argument looks weak when you don't even remember the ******* team we were playing.

Joe

The only reason it made sense to go for two was to give me the win in the game pick thread. Other than that it was dumb.
