Anyone know if Tomlin has explained his thinking on going for two?

I listened to some of the post game and have yet to hear a reasonable explanation. Was it another "went with my gut" decision?

Idk either. The situations the team is usually in during games is what is more questionable to me than any. I stated in another thread if the situation had the Steelers early in the game or up by a decent amount. Trying to go for two in that regards would be ok. But. Yeah, just about as confused as you are

It didn't make any sense. Maybe they are just trying to figure out something that will work on 2 point plays, because they haven't had one work in a while, have they? And the play calls suck. It is all spread out, with no option for the defense to even have to think about the run.

Maybe they just like messing with all of us watching the game.

Game feed mentioned it. Went for two so as to go up by 2 FGs. Defense was playing solid and keeping them to a FG would have a still allowed another possession by our offense.

Make or miss still required two scores if you held them to FGs.

we are not strong on the 2pt conversion this year. It was a dumb decision. Take the point and kick off. Sometimes, MT overthinks and tries to be aggressive when he doesn't need to.

4 point lead requires a TD to win. So does a 5 point lead. A 6 point lead, if the 2 point is good, requires a TD and the extra point, which hasn't been a gimme for the Bengals.

but, being up by 5, if CIN scores a TD, they are up by two and all we would need is a FG for the lead. No need for the 2 pt conversion there. You leave points on the field, which is not a good thing. Against Dallas, it was a disaster and it may/may not have cost us the game, but was a definite "ugh" moment.

what do you expect with Tomlin his management of a game is way less than most of the coaches in the league. Check replay when Bungals scored their last score how Porter look at Tomlin as if to say what the heck are you doing. Priceless.

yep, that is why Tomlin was able to get to 100 wins faster than Cowher....faster than Noll also...but Noll started with less....

Because kicking 30yd extra points is ******* stupid...

There's no real difference between 4-5 points. There is, however, a difference with 6. Especially considering that extra points are no longer gimmes in today's NFL.

With the time remaining and the "D" playing the way they were, there definately was no need for a 2 try. I know things could have fallen differently but the 1 point at that time was needed. Our success rate isn't as good this year. Maybe the prACTICE WILL COME IN HANDY DOWN THE ROAD BUT FOR NOW IT'S A MISS-MANAGEMENT OF THE GAME. I also think the play call was so ONE demensional it was pathetic. Are we that not good enough to make the "D" at least defend the run??? With BELL in the backfield???

Salute the nation

But two Bengals FGs in a little over seven minutes is far less likely than them scoring one TD which would have left the Steelers only able to tie the game with a FG.

It was dumb. He really needs to stop being stubborn and kick the ******* extra point. Go for 2 when it's truly needed. ****!

Sure there is. With a 4 point lead, your opponent will be trying for a TD and more than likely an extra point which would put you down by 3 instead of 2. Big difference.

This is the correct application of "the chart" xps are no gimmies. Despite what tv, radio, and others say this was smart in terms of mathl and football logic.

Kick the XP, you are up by 5. Even if the Bungles get a TD and 2pt. Conversion, you are still a FG away from tying it up. Missing on the 2pt conversion means if the Bungles score a TD and 2pt conversion, we now need a TD. It is common sense and defies math and football logic.

some of you folks would ***** about a blowjob.....The Steelers came from behind and won on the road against a division opponent and maintained their one game lead in the division...but sure, crying about a call you disagree with shows what a great objective fan you are....

No. Extra points are converted 90% of time. Going for two was logic based on a 10% probability. That's not smart.

If you think it is better to be up by 5 than 6 then you go ahead and kick all the xps you want.

And if you think it's better to be up by 4 than 6 then you go ahead and try for two all you want.
