Gerry Dulac ...Jarvis Jones every bit a draft bust.

If it's an open competition, Jarvis is ******.

Joe

i would try him on the left .. but i have few hopes

Ah, he was practically a second-rounder anyway. Or even a third; I'm just going to call him a third.

he would get killed on the left side,he has no creative rush moves, no bull rush a must for a lolb, no spin, reach pick, ok if not Eifert we should haven traded down to early rnd 2 and taken Collins who was the only true 34 ROLB, the rest were all tweeners, or guys who likely wouldn't be strong enough to play rolb in a 3-4 ( sean porter, Arthur Brown, sio moore,)
Colbert should of gone B.P.A would would of been CB Trufant or CB Rhodes or TE Eifiert).

he'd have to bulk up about 50lbs on his skinny frame to play on the left - but what the hell his "speed" isn't doing much good anywhere else

I think we all know this was a terrible fricking pick at 17 especially when we needed badly to hit a home run with it. What baffles me is how they just first run to the podium to draft this guy as though teams are falling over themselves to pick him. This guy has flat out stunk lets face it. He's too small, too slow, he's overmatched against these massive OL, the guy just can't do the job at this level. There was a reason he dropped but we failed to do our homework on him. I've said it before and I'll say it again that I think that the Colbert Tomlin combination on player evaluation in both the draft and F/A is horrendous. Sure you're going to pick up nuggets along the way like AB and Beachum late but they are starting to miss on these higher picks and that spell doom here. The F/A acquisitions so far with these two have not been good. Nowhere like they were when Cowher and Colbert worked together. Makes me wonder that Cowher's influence on player evaluation was the key to our previous success. I think Colbert may have gotten credit he didn't deserve and it was more Bill behind the decisions.

If he has any trade value at all we should just cash it in now

Can't label him a bust yet. He's been injured. If he doesn't produce this year, then, yes, he is a bust and should be let go.

In all seriousness, does he hold ANY trade value? Would it be better to get something for him or are we basically stuck with him to see if he sinks or swims? I'd hope he comes around and be a contributor, but I'm afraid we will see his rise or demise til the end.

Some players are just hurt all the time. That makes them a bust too.

Well, here's hoping that his 2 sacks and 1 forced fumbles in the first 3 games is the real Jarvis and that the injury hampered him through games 14-17.

I REALLY hate that we are still hearing about how he needs to bulk up as his 3rd season starts. His *** should have been bulked up by the end of 2013.

He's essentially the straight version of Michael Sam. Not big enough, string enough or fast enough. Really looking like they spent the #17 pick on a zero impact guy who has the upside to maybe some day be good enough to play on rushing downs. Completely wasted pick.

And he's already getting old, he's 3 years older than Shazier.

I called into a local radio show shortly after the pick and asked why do other teams get production out of a 1st rounder and we have a project guy who isn't ready to start.

Meaning at pick 16 or 17 (whatever he was) we need someone who can start now.

I was lambasted and chastised like I had no clue what I was talking about.

From the same people who are now questioning the pick.

The bad drafts have left us where we are and now they have been drafting by need and not BPA.

The question I have is are we drafting bad talent or not developing the players? or both?

That said if we can get the defense together I don't think they are that far away from something special.

Must hit this years class for the sake of the future???

I have to question what are they seeing that they are so in love with our picks. They do jump onto the podium rather quickly, so that says to me they really like who they are picking. Now, beside from Bell and handful of others, who is really making these decisions? Who is evaluating these players and is it need or BPA? I'd be Ok if Jones was a second round pick, but he was a mid-first rounder and you have to get another Troy or immediate impact player there. Same with Shazier. He has showed flashes and could still be a great one, but he seems hurt and smallish to get on the field. We'll see, but there is more mediocrity on D than playmakers.

Injuries are the only reason I am holding out a little hope at this point. He hasn't been on the field all that much and last year when he was he couldn't use his hand. Year 3 is the determining year for me when it comes to most draft picks unless they are Limas Sweed bad. If he doesn't stay healthy and improve a good deal this year, it's not happening most likely.

It seems as though those SEC Defensive Player of the Year types are more "smoke and mirrors" when accessing their real skills. Only ones in the last few years that have shown promise was Patrick Willis (retired?) and the kid, Peterson in Arizona. I wasn't hot on picking Jarvis either during that draft. I agree with Dulac on this one.

It takes most players 2 years or so to learn our D. Jones has been hurt. That makes his learning curve potentially longer. I am not saying he is or isn't a bust. But, it makes me laugh with all of the people on here that jump to conclusions and then are proven so, so wrong. Give the guy this year and hopefully injury free. If he still doesn't perform, then I will happily call him a bust. Now, go jump off a bridge. The sky is falling.

Look, I didn't like the Jones pick, either. I fear he isn't going to be much of a player. But the 37 year old is a pretty good football player. I hate that analogy. It isn't like James Harrison is a bum. Maybe Jimmy Garapolo is a bust because he can't beat out a 37 year old.

Not saying he is a bust yet but was saying we needed a ready now player. With Harrison gone & Woodley always injured we needed a guy ready to play now.

This will be the year we find out what he is. I have been patient and am anxious to see.

Jarvis has looked like a bust and played like a bust. Does not mean the sky is falling just that Jarvis is a bust. Worilds is gone and was not anything special but was much better than Jarvis. We really need to find a couple of guys we can put behind James and Moates or spend lots of time in a 4-3 where are smaller and faster backers can play. If that is where we are heading that's fine we have Shazier, Timmons, that have speed to cover and might put James and or Williams in the middle. Moates might also be able to translate into an outside backer in a 4-3.

Right now I would be tempted to move Harrison to the middle spot in a 4-3 and Timmons to the outside with Shazier at the other outside spot. Spence can back up outside spot, Williams the middle. And Jones would be put on a bus going out of town.
