Geno Smith Punched Out by Teammate

Even tho this did happen to Geno Smith could you imagine if this happened to any other starting QB or a elite QB? Wow that LB is a dumb ***. A 6th round pick, he wouldve been found dead in the locker room had he been a Steeler and that happened to Ben. What a idiot he just set the entire team back.
 
How does Michael David Smith automatically jump to the conclusion the NFL needs to "do something about this"?

Because PFT only hires PC feminized writers. The other day Cam Newton got in a short skirmish and PFT wrote an article calling the Panthers D coordinator a "meathead" because he said he'd rather see guys fired up in practice than just going through the motions.

I remember something similar to this a few years ago, Steve Smith broke a CB's jaw in practice from a fight, was out for weeks about the same time frame. A simple punch can have this effect on your team, and when its your starting quarterback.. you just dont do that ****.. especially being a 2nd year late round draft pick. Just unbelievably stupid.

Remember the Redskins had the same deal? Can't remember the players names I think it was the WR from Colorado (Michael Westbrook?) that caught Kordell Stewarts Hail Mary and the RB from Auburn who was decent for a while.

That was Stephen Davis. Steve Smith also punched somebody in Panthers camp years ago.


Jets drafted Bryce Petty from Baylor. He'll probably get a ton of reps now. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a vet who doesn't need a bunch of snaps.

We should go get that LB - maybe he can rush the passer, then slug him....hahahah

It’s early in the Geno Smith broken jaw saga, so most of the reaction is knee-jerk. Details are scarce, which means plenty of mockery. The Jets remain a laughingstock. They were going to be a sub-.500 team before Smith was lost for 6-10 weeks to jaw surgery; they’ll still be a sub-.500 team with Harvard’s Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm.

The real question here is what the hell happened? How come nobody broke up an argument between QB1 and a backup linebacker?

The above tweet from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is the only detail so far in the fight. It only leads to more questions, many which probably won’t be answered anytime soon. This, more speculation. Here’s what I want to know:

1) Having just seen Cam Newton fight with a defender in Carolina, is it reasonable to think the Jets had a talk about this? Hey guys, we don’t fight our QB.

2) Why is the QB talking smack to a backup LB and wagging a finger in his face?

3) Why did nobody step in to tell Geno to chill when this was happening?

4) These eruptions can happen in an instant … or perhaps something was brewing. The first time a guy puts a finger in your face, do you punch him out? Or was this not the first time?

Jets fans have questions.

The other player who hit Smith had a history of violence, even vs. cops. If you must fight, do it on the field vs a player who did something to you. You just can do anything like this in a locker room...and against the starting QB. Unheard of.

These are the Jets. Could you imagine if this happened to a normal team or to a star QB?!
