Geno Smith Punched Out by Teammate

LOL. But seriously if QBs been known to play with torn acl's and defenders with broken or missing fingers, why cant a QB play with a broken jaw? I'd imagine it'd make calling cadance more difficult but shouldn't effect their play at all. Ben's played with a broken nose, broken pinky, bruised ribs etc. Geno is just being a baby.

Just curious,.......... How many broken jaws have you had? (not defending gino, but come on)

Seems to me that Geno's teammates don't like him. They kept saying sucker punch but now it appears this was a drawn out argument that ended when Geno got in his face and the LB had enough.

First, if Geno was liked, there's no way this would have escalated like that. Somebody would have stepped in between them and probably fought the LB on behalf of Geno.

Second, details are leaking out that contradict the sucker punch narrative. I'm guessing there are plenty of teammates who were happy to tell the other side. They were probably rooting for the LB to hit him.

One last thought. I-K is a horrible letter combo. It's not like TJ or JR, etc. It's awkward. How much must you hate your given name to go by I-K?

Its already been said thay i dont seriously think he can really play with one, but judging by others who may have played with arguably worse ailments I'd say if it were Playoffs someone else would tough it out & find a way to play. I've never had one & im sure its hell, but with QB being probably the least physical position its not impossible. They can go a entire game without being touched at all depending on the O-line.

I get in heated arguments at work sometimes....I really don't expect a punch to the face. Why is hard to expect a little self control in this situation? Punching a co-worker. Wow.

Again...REALLY?

Lol... so what makes you think playing with a broken jaw is worse than playing with bruised ribs, broken fingers, missing fingers, broken nose, torn ACLs, torn groins, concussions, dislocated shoulder, half a foot, any worse? Because all has been done before.

QB has to be able to speak. Also, you can't wear a helmet with a broken jaw because the chinstrap has to be snug. Each hit would pull on his jaw.

Have you ever played organized football? Just curious.

Ahh yes you are correct, the chinstrap needs to be snug for the helmet to stay on. A obvious Duh moment. I stand corrected you cannot play football with a broken jaw. Lol im not sure what i was thinking, i play semi pro so i should've known that.

flag football at the YMCA doesn't count
Oh then nope. Never played organized football then. Only semi pro tackle. And yes admittedly i wasnt thinking on the whole broken jaw thing.

Anyone remember Ben after he had his mouth wired shut for a month? the guy looked like he lost 40 lbs and for the first few months back his passes had no zip on them... its not just playing through pain...

maybe inflate the helmet bladder a bit more before your next game/pratice, k?

So he owes guy $600, doesn't pay up and a fight breaks out that does not include a sucker punch?

This guy has zero leadership ability. He also got his @ss kicked for engaging a fight with a much bigger and stronger player. Now he's hurt and the players counting on him are betrayed.

In the locker room, I think he lost all leadership and credibility. If I were his agent I'd ask for a trade because I think he's going to have a tough time coming back from this. He's legacy is a welcher on a bet who got his rear end handed to him.

With this "jets" current OL, I'm just wondering how many games they have kept the QB from being touched???????? 10, 25, maybe a 100????

Wow..bad news that isn't out of Cleveland this time.

Wow, this is a terribly incorrect version of the story.

Geno doesnt attend IK's camp because his friend died and his brother broke his arm and ribs.

IK gets mad b/c he paid for a $600 plane ticket that Geno did not use.

Geno tells IK that he doesnt want to discuss the $$ in the locker room- IK feels slighted and sucker punches him (sucker punch has been confirmed)

IK is an *** for even asking for the money in the first place. It's YOUR event- Of course you fly him out. But he canceled for a very valid reason. Asking for the money back is tacky as hell...

Where has the sucker punch been confirmed?

Didn't Smith get in his face?

NFL.com reports that Smith pointed his finger in Enemkpali’s face right before the punch was thrown.

I find it hard to believe those in the locker room would allow a 3rd string guy to fight their staring QB, if the QB was trying to avoid it. Smith was stupid. He should know the other guy was much bigger and stronger, and has history of fighting. He also owed him money. Maybe the other guy wanted it back because he was in danger of being cut and would not see Smith Again. Very plausible. All Smith had to due was give him a check.

See, there are 50,000 versions of this out there already. One version, backed by "unidentified" teammates is that Geno never bothered to let IK know that he wasn't coming to the camp. Just didn't show up. So the limo driver was waiting for Geno at the airport for 2 hrs and that's where the $600 charge came from. In that case, IK has every right to ask for the money to be returned because if Geno had made even a courtesy phone call (or had his agent done so) IK could have canceled the limo.

Also, stated that the punch was not a sucker punch.

Who knows what the real truth is? I'm just glad that we don't have that type of dysfunction on the Steelers.

how long does a one minute phone call take or a short text message. That would be the right thing to do when someone dies, and or someone is in the hospital, could easily have been done in the waiting room. It's not like geno was the attending physician. Fighting in the locker room is dumb the right thing to do would have been to pay the guy the money he was out because geno failed to meet an obligation. I laugh every time someone says they were sucker punched all that means is they were not paying attention when they should have been.

Per Adam Schefter:
Story behind the punch that broke Geno Smith's jaw in two places:

At the heart of the dispute between former Jets LB IK Enemkpali and quarterback Geno Smith is $600 that Enemkpali believed Smith owed him, per league sources. Enemkpali purchased a plane ticket for Smith to attend his July 11 football camp at Pfugerville High School in Pfugerville, Texas. However, days before the camp, a person close to Smith was killed in a motorcycle accident in Miami and Smith did not attend Enemkpali’s camp, per sources. After Smith did not attend, Enemkpali demanded that the Jets’ quarterback refund him the $600 he allegedly used to purchase a plane ticket. Smith told Enemkpali he would reimburse him the money, but he did not. Enkempali confronted Smith today about the money and the confrontation ended in a punch and broken jaw. It's not that Geno Smith didn't pay back IK Enemkpali. He just didn't do it yet. He intended to pay him back, per sources. Just not in time.

You are creating some made up narrative of Geno getting in dudes face. Its simple, the IK is a crazy mf'er. Thats it.

Sucker punch wasn't confirmed because I e seen and heard on NYC radio that it wasn't a sucker punch

Ryan Clark was on ESPN telling a different story. According to Ryan, there was no sucker punch and Geno got hit when he raised his hand and wagged his finger in dude's face. IK trains at Ryan's facility and Ryan says he talked to him shortly after the story (and Geno's jaw) broke. Bowles and Revis both stated that Geno played a big part in the argument escalating. Even though Bowles seems to be sticking to the company line, you can almost see that he really has no respect for either IK or Geno.

Again, just glad this crap hasn't happened on the Steelers.
