Game Balls, Game Goats & FU's................vs Chiefs

Not to defend Burns, Hill is possibly the fastest guy I’ve ever seen play. Ever. He’s going to smoke the best corners in the league even the mediocre ones and the subpar ones. Sammy Watkins 1-1 with our DB’s is a mismatch and Kelce is hard to cover. Of course the Steelers can’t stop a lot of TE’s in the league.

Burns should be benched after that performance. Problem is Sutton isn't playing well and Haden is banged up.

Perhaps rotate Sens in................

absolutely not. that would be akin to pouring kerosene on a dumpster fire.

the only time (it seemed) Mahomes had difficulty with the pass was when McCullers was in his face pushing the pocket back. Anyone seen Grave Digger? Can we change his name to Nose Picker at this point? Granted, Heyward and Tuitt shouldn't have to do everything on every down, but damn if that's not what is required at this point. The safety showed we can stop the run when we know its coming. But to do that we have to sell out. At this point, with our personnel, we should go 4-3 with Hargrave and McCullers in the middle so as to give Tuitt and Heyward a little more breathing room to attack the passer/rush. Who has more value on/off the field: McCullers, Hargrave, Bostic? Bostic isn't doing ****, but can be sure to start next week.

Yeah I was drawing straws with no real solution. It is that bad. The 4-3 would be worth a look. Something different, Preferably a coach.

who's to blame for today?

Cameron Heyward, Javon Hargrave, Stephon Tuitt, TJ Watt, Jon Bostic, Vince Williams, Bud Durpee, Mike Hilton, Sean Davis, Morgan Burnett, Artie Burns, Terrell Edmunds, Cameron Sutton, Coty Sensabaugh, Mike Tomlin, Keith Butler, Tom Bradley, Karl Dunbar, Jerry Olsavsky and Joey Porter.

Don't forget ark. Wtf are you new here?

Never understood this line of reasoning. "Yeah, but who else is available?"

Uhhh, okay. Guys like Sean McAfee, Doug Marrone, Adam Gase, Doug Pederson, all of whom were "who??" a couple of year ago.

Seriously, we have been playing the "Yeah, but who replaces him?" game for years, while really good coaches go to other teams.

I completely see what you are saying and it's a valid point, but the guy I quoted sounded like wanted someone fired yesterday. Thus my response of "who do you replace him with?"

For a intern coach until the end of the season, perhaps Jerry.

I mean how much worse could it possibly be?

Hell, replace him with Munchak until you can go after your guy. It's not like Mike has no HC experience, I'd trust him for a fair amount of games. If a fire is not lit after that move, then you are gearing up for 2019 with your high draft picks and good amount of cap space to work with with the new regime. They should not operate that no one is as good as MT.

Not too much worse really. Personally, I would prefer Bradley to get the shot. I have always averred that he may have been a stealth hiring to eventually replace the struggling Butler.

Brad isn't doing too good of a job with the secondary so far though. Not sure how he would do with a expanded role.

True. He did have some nice defenses with Penn State, and maybe our CB talent is that piss poor that even he can't fix them. But from what I saw yesterday, there were a lot of communication errors with the LB'ers and safeties and to me, that falls on the DC.

remember before lebeau left? Butler was revered as some kind of savant. Only the great dick lebeau was standing in his way to bring in the newer better defensive ways. He was promised this job years before lebeau left.

Almost every coach in the NFL comprehends that a good pass rush covers up deficiencies in your secondary EXCEPT Tomlin. His concept of dropping 9 guys into coverage and giving the QB 8 seconds to throw the ball is the very definition of insanity. The more we get away from the Blitz the worse our defense looks. It is not rocket science.

Read one local writer and kind of summed it up pretty well. WHY were the linebackers covering TEs all afternoon? I thought all these DBs that have been added were to help counter pass catching TEs, and multiple threats. Heck, Watt was covering Watkins on that overthrow by Maholmes. That matchup should never happen.

The fact he does with 2Dlinemen is just as insane, you get zero push, and teams can easily double them. The lone sack we had was when big dan pushed the middle of the pocket.
If you're going to only send 4 guys, you have to use at least 3 Dlinenmen, have some size and hope to collapse the pocket.

He did on the long-balls. There's just no timing on those.

This is correct. Seems to be the timing with AB like we are used to seeing is just not there. Long balls were not good. Almost felt like they were just running that play to try to keep the KC D honest.

Since he played so well (outside of the first two drives), I wouldn't quibble about those, except to say that KC had nothing to fear from the long ball.

What I don't get is that, last year, we shut Kelce down. In the first quarter, we couldn't stop them from scoring. In the second, we did. WTF happened to the D in the 2nd quarter that they could not duplicate?

Coaches tell them to relax and not try so hard? They looked confused most of the game. I mean the players, but maybe the coaches were, too.

This is the problem i have with Butler. The miscommunication is one thing but the bigger problem is that far too often, even if the defense is perfectly run, it ends up with a steeler in a losing matchup.

Can you blame Vince Williams for not covering Kelce, or Watt not covering Watkins?

I think they need to try Marcus Allen at LB in passing situations. I really thought that was why he was drafted. He’s a big safety who can run with a TE.

Let me start by giving a shout-out for the nose-picker observation. Well-done, sir, well-done.

As to the issue presented - Coach Tomlin and I discussed the matter, and we agree that since the 2-man DL has been so abysmal, the Steelers should go 0 defensive lineman, 3 LB's, 4 safeties, and 4 CB's.

Yep. I saw No. 90 chasing after Watkins, and a bunch of guys sitting in a sports bar watching the game turned to each other and wondered, "Why is your best pass rusher 50 yards down the field trying to cover a WR?!?"

Yes, I remember those days.
