Game Balls, Game Goats, & FU's.........vs Bengals

If Tomlin thinks we can line up and sho e it down their throats, that's all he's ever going to do. glad we had to think outside that box for once.

I'm not a fan of Dupree but at least he had to power around someone to get a sack. Bush came in free. He wasn't even touched. He also had Watt bearing down to keep the QB from side stepping him.

I don't generally stick up for Dupree but he played well last night even when he wasn't getting a sack.

So no credit to Bush for having a decent game? He made positive pass and run defensive plays. You got on one poster for being like cooch, but isn't not giving a player credit for anything because of your draft evals pretty much the same thing you accused the poster of? Being a hypocrite?

My issue wasn't with Bush but with his evaluation of Dupree. He brushed off what Dupree did against Andrews because Andrews is horrible. But some how Bush was great going against air. I didn't think that was fair. I wasn't giving an overall assessment of Bush or Dupree. I never said Bush played terrible, bad, great, or in between. I understand you want to take up for your buddy but at least understand the difference between an evaluation and a comment about 2 individual plays.

Asking you a question isn't sticking up for a buddy it is just a clarification. As in the game thread and just about every time you mentioned Bush it had underlying negativity.

I understand the difference between an eval and a comment. I was moreso referencing what you didn't type than what you did type in comparison to other observations.

So did you like Bush's performance?.

Our short yardage running is shakey. We are picking up 5 yards running the Wildcat, running misdirection plays and then try running up the middle on a 4th and 1 and got blown off the ball. That is my only "gripe" in an overall, very satisfying win! Bring on the Rats!

Goat goes to Tomlin not allowing Mason to play on the third and short and fourth and short. Throw in the two other third and short where Steelers were stopped same type of running call. Tomlin had chance when game was won to see how he would do in these situations. Also was time to get Washington and the new TE involved at end of game, make some calls for their number , not Tomlin. Tomlin putting Snell in once more doing zero, he should be sent to practice squad and surly someone could be moved up that can make some plays.

I'm consistent with what I've said. He does very well when he is unblocked. I even said in the game thread that he plays well when he doesn't have an OL in front of him. I've talked about his speed and hitting ability before. I still have concerns with him. As long as the Steelers can keep him clean he'll be fine. I've said that many times.

Almost everyone played well last night. Even the oft shat on Barron. He looked good last night as well.

His one play they attempted to block him he got around it and made a play. So your assessment is showing a leak. I am sure there is plays where just about every ILber are blocked BTW here and there. Bush is flashing star potential despite your concerns..

Rudolph was playing Brady ball for sure. He managed the game well. Took what was given to him and didn’t try to force something.

Brady ball can work if you play good defense and special teams. Cindy’s OL was awful.

The question is can we win game playing this way vs .500 or better teams.

The addition of the new TE , the emergence of WR Johnson and the sudden light bulb moment the coaches had by using Samules might be enough. Well see.

This probably won’t be as effective next week against Baltimore. He needs to take more shots- however; if he keep putting the offense into more 3rd and manageables like he did last night and drive down the field. I’ll take it. The wildcat thing will get old

If playing Brady ball throw in to Washington the guy has serious speed and you can utilize him like Wes or Edelman or Amendola

On his sack he is untouched because the RG crashes down and doubles the DL. He is in no position to pick up anyone. He doesn't even get his hand on Bush. And we are not talking about pro-bowl OL. We're talking about one of the worst OL in the league.

Also I guess Barron flashed star potential as well? Dupree as well? He actually took on a defender and beat him. Star? I think your assessment is showing more than a few leaks.

I thought he flashed on some screens after getting rid of the blockers in front of him too .

Overall a much better show out of the defense but I still hate that 4 man front with 2 DL and 2 LBers, it's a recipe for giving up 5-6 yards a carry pretty much all the time. I think they call it the "base nickle" ?

If I was fully awake, I'm pretty sure I saw this D on 3rd and short more than once and it was predictably unsuccessful...more than once. Where's that shade tree when ya need him ?

But this has been a goal of Tomlin's since at least 2015, like this article contends.

The Steeler defense can return to dominance, but only with change
https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2015/1...se-adjustments-pittsburgh-keith-butler-scheme

That makes the nickel position the spot where the Steelers really need a big time playmaker to restore their defense. They need someone with legitimate coverage skills to go up against a slot, but with enough size and physicality to mix it up near the line of scrimmage as well. They aren't likely to find such a player in free agency, especially with much of their money currently tied up and Big Ben waiting for a contract extension.

It may be just possible that we finally have the players to pull this off...we shall see. They almost had it going tonite but for some gashes up the middle they looked a lot more like a co-ordinated defense than the lost puppy's we are used to seeing.

I agree something is amiss with our short yardage game, been an issue all year. It's like they crawl into a shell, tighten up, and expect the worst. The playcalling is banal and unimaginative, whatever momentum we've established on the drive just disappears. It's like the whole O collectively goes 'oh crap, this ain't gonna work.' So something has to change. Rudolph has to show more assertiveness and confidence, audible out, change it up. And Fichtner, for the love of God, needs to tear up his playbook on short yardage plays and start from scratch.

I wasn't talking about his sack....the play where he stuffed the run. They attempted to block him and he beat the block. I believe there was like three defenders in that area if I remember correctly.. He led the D in tackles for loss BTW i said star POTENTIAL,, potential is based on his overall combined play from sideline to sideline making plays against the pass and the run. So no leaks in my assessment that is stating potentially as I am not saying it will definitely happen....... but he is flashing. Grind your gears that your draft slam of him could be incorrect does it?

So far their decision to trade up to draft him is showing merit.

I'm feeling a little more optimistic now. The changes on offense were nice to see. Looks like we are finally designing plays to fit our talents. Our 3 losses are against some of the better teams in the league they have a combined record of 10-1. Next weeks game is huge , if we beat the Ravens the division is wide open.

But count me on the it's time for a coaching change team now.

and on short yardage runs please stop hb blast/ dive on left side our best blockers are on the right side for run blocking, decastro and Fieler were agile and physically abusing guys as was Pouncey

So again is Barron flashing star potential? Dupree? You can't take a handful of plays against a horrible team and start talking about stardom. You need to grind your gears on your over the top examination of a few plays against a horrible team compared to the other 3 games. Yes, he had 3 TFL against the bungles. He had 0 all year until then. He had no sacks until then. So all this star power because of one game against the bungles?
