Former Steeler Ryan Harris on Tomlin and the culture

They were manhandled by the Jaguars and couldn't stop their running game. Bortles did just enough to manage the game properly (he was used properly).

We spotted them 10-14 points via our offense.

Regardless of how you feel about the game, the players or the coaches, Bortles did not put up 45 points on us. It is, simply, untrue.

In fact, bortles had more yards, more attempts, more completions and a higher qb rating the week after in a loss.
A loss by 4 points..... .

Oh I don't think Bortles did anything special in that game, not by a long shot.

Manhandled by the Jags?

Ben picked off inside the Pit 20. Resulting in a TD.

Ben has a fumble (recovered 50 yds and returned for a TD)

All in the first half. Jax was spotted 14 points.

Ben finished with 450+ yards Bortles barely had over 200.

Fournette had barely 100 but 3 TDs (2 short yarders)

Plus Ben had 4 drives either ending with punts or turnover in downs.

Turnovers by Ben killed drives and allowed points. Manhandled doesn’t equate to over 540+ yards on offense nor 42 points.

Defense didn’t get any T/Os and didn’t get any help from the Offense. Jax dinked and dunk on passes and ran the ball running out the time of possession.

Manhandled??

The facts only muddle the rhetoric...

I forgot they were spotted 14 points from Ben (selective memory perhaps).

I thought I remembered the defense getting gashed by the run, but now that you mention it, Fournette got a lot of his yards on that one long run, was it?

In any case, I'm just seeing which of you are on your toes.

Fournette’s long wasn’t even 20 yards (you are thinking of the first meeting). LeVeon had a longer rush in the playoff game

I understand we spotted them pts by 2 turnovers. 45-14 = 31 ..
THe defense did nothing to help the shortcomings of the turnovers. It's a team game.. Remember? Ben ***** the bed, ben comes back and scores a **** ton. Defense fiddles and watches it burn.

The only saving point the defense has is that they didn't have shazier.

You may be remembering the reg season game where i think we held fournette in check all game and rhen he had one 90 yard run.

In the playoff, fournette had 3 TDs.

Ben gave up 7. God forbid the D make a play or a stop.

BS. That int was within FG range. Sure the D let them get a TD. It was gonna be 3 or 7 from the spot of the int.

45- either turnover and we win the game.

In the playoffs, you simply cannot have 2 turnovers that result in points and expect to win.

I'm not even sure how many teams with 2 TO on offense end up winning playoff games.

The real point is, that was a complete team loss. Coaches down to the players.

Blaming that loss on either SBWHCMVLT or Ben is shortsighted and narrow minded.

Jeez, I'm gonna quit while I'm already way behind. The heat here is apparently getting to us (my co-worker is talking to himself in the other room).

It's always a team loss. But someone has to be the leader and be responsible. Nothing can change the 3 playoff wins in 8 years when the HC has had a team stocked with talent. Any other coaches would be fired for squandering a HOF QB, possible HOF WR, one of the best OLs and a defense stocked with 1st round talent. To me not blaming the guy that has been in charge the past 12 years is shortsighted and narrow minded. It's really just the classic "clump everyone together so the guy I like doesn't get the blame".

This player was here for what 5 games?

How can he know who is an isn't a good head coach? Not sold here. Whatever leadership Tomlin has did not show well with Brown or Tomlin, or many other legendary steelers such as Harrison or Rocky. I never saw so many X top players against a current head coach, have you? Why put stock in a guy who was here for 5 games?

This player is what version of Islam? Some versions are anti American, which is why I'm asking and might applaud a head coach making a team decision to keep guys in the locker room during the national anthem for what Tomlin says was team unity after a very close vote. Ben says it was a distraction. What does the Rooney rule have to do with being a good coach? While Tomlin might be a good guy to have a beer with, none of that matter on game day to me.

With that in mind – any thoughts on what had been going on with the Steelers and their offseason, knowing how Tomlin approaches leadership and the locker room?

Well, I wasn’t there for two years of course. There were clearly some issues with communication and production – I don’t know. Not making the playoffs certainly isn’t the standard.
There are always stories – issues with relationships we don’t see. That’s why fans are fans and media is media. They aren’t on the inside. I can’t tell you what’s going on there now. But I can tell you from my time there there was never a clearer communicator in the NFL than Tomlin. He builds trust and respect from players you can’t just command without being a good leader and communicator.
I remember going to Pamela’s to for breakfast – they had delicious pancakes. It was so crazy for me, going from being in the huddle with Peyton Manning then to Ben Roethlisberger. It was amazing to be in that competitive atmosphere.
The offensive line used to get together every week. That was a welcome surprise. Talking to Alejandro Villinueva about Islam – religion and politics – having those great conversations. It was a lot of adults who weren’t afraid to talk about tough things at difficult times. It was a fun environment to be in.

Okay, I searched him on the web, yep he is a political activists. Judge for yourself.

it is NOT always a team loss. if the game plan is perfect, but a normally clutch player fumbles at the goal line and you lose, that isn't on the coaches. If the D holds the opponent to 10 points, but the offense scores 6, it is not a team loss. if the offense scores 45 and the D allows 50, it is hard to blame the O for a loss. If the game plan straight up sucks, you don't blame the players.

Bermuda. YOU of all people ( lol) should know it comes down to the HC. He's like the company commander. That's part of the job.

Well I guess you are back to your “old way” of posting. More agenda based rhetorical BS with a avalanche of sentence fragments and idiotic musings...to help you focus, here is a short recap on the “so many x players”

Brown - wanted more money. Acted out and got it.

Debo - didn’t like being a “role” player. Wanted to start. Pouted and got released.

Rocky - He had just published another book and was “promoting”.

Bradshaw - (since you didn’t include him) Brad is a broadcaster first. His job is to get people to watch Fox. Still has issues obviously. Yet he still promotes the Steelers in products advertising.

You need another time out.

It's always a team loss. But someone has to be in charge. I'm sure every coach that has ever been fired could find film where the players screwed up and lost games. But he is still responsible in the end. Tomlin isn't in the eyes of some fans. It's always someone else. It's one of the players, it's the ref or it's the position coaches.. but hell it can't be the head coach. He's great. If he could just get the best position coaches and all the great players he'd win!!

Always, even when they say the loss was a team loss from the top down? Ok.

It isn't apples to apples because he's been here longer than every other coach but 3 others. The problem is that he's won 3 playoff games in 8 years. That's almost a decade. And if you look at the teams he's beat it isn't impressive at all considering the talent he has had.

Tough to win playoff games, when you aren't in the playoffs. Skewed stat...

If only we weren't playing against other teams that were trying to win. We'd have 16 Lombardis by now...

So in 2016 this guy signs with the Steelers, plays a grand total of 39 offensive snaps, gets hurt, goes on IR and then announces his retirement and drifts back into general obscurity.

Then in 2019 he is interviewed by some guy named Lipplock where he proceeds to give Tomlin a giant fluffer which results in the longest thread of his Steeler career.

Sounds about right.

Blah blah blah. Defend Tomlin at all costs. Same old Ike. Are you buying a new pair of darks shades this year to watch the games?
