Former Steeler Ryan Harris on Tomlin and the culture

Yep ***** and at the end of the day Tomlin is still here. Unfortunately it is what it is.

At least here in the UFC they don't use the "tell me who you gonna replace him with?" Ground and Pound like they do over there in StrikeForce while sucking the air out of the arena.

My counter for that tired maneuver is "Were Noll, Cowher, or Tomlin household names and on anyone's lips before hired?"

When people play the "who you gonna replace him with?" card, it makes you wonder what happened to the "I trust the Rooneys" card!

These coaches all have a shelf life if they can't find a Tom Brady.
 
Yep, Tom Brady & Ernie Adams, the two best things that ever happened to Bill Belichick.

Tomlin desperately needs an Ernie Adams. Hell, I'd take Bert & Ernie at this point.

Or getting sent home by Tim Tebow, that was memorable.

I will say, that although that Tebow loss was horrific, the Steelers were pretty banged up in that game.
However, the critical failure (as I remember it) of that game was the blatant disrespect they showed for Tebow's passing game. As I remember it the bulk of the game was played in either base or even a pseudo prevent offense to contain his running game. Again, my memory may be skewed, but I think he only completed like 10 passes that game, but he averaged around 30 yds per completion.

That was a rough game. I got seriously drunken that night.

As for the "Tomlin has never finished below .500" argument... I always respond - "I think what you mean is that Ben has never finished below .500"

Soon we may get an opportunity to see WHICH of those two has really been the glue that holds the Steelers together.

Now you're getting it, but by making it to a conference game and losing, you are either going 1-1 or 2-1 that season, depending if you play an extra game. Since you don't make the SB, you don't get +2 +3 or +4 wins in a playoff season. A +1 is easily negated by a playoff loss and out another year.

Also I'm not arguing that Tomlin isn't also a result of this own skewing, I understand it. And if you want to relate apples to apples, he's still #5 in the league as we sit today. And you don't get that many playoff wins without hitting Superbowls.

It isn't apples to apples because he's been here longer than every other coach but 3 others. The problem is that he's won 3 playoff games in 8 years. That's almost a decade. And if you look at the teams he's beat it isn't impressive at all considering the talent he has had.

"There’s a lot of lessons to be learned and that’s one thing Coach T prides himself on is learning those lessons and going thorough trials. There’s gonna be ups, there’s gonna be downs. There’s gonna be times where you’re going to have to learn. There’s going to be times when you’re going to teach other guys. That was a serious gut punch. And not only did they go into the game not respecting his passing game, they didn't make any adjustments once they saw they were getting their ***** handed to them (to my knowledge).

The Jaguars have always had the Steelers number, I don't know what the hell it is. Fred Taylor, Steve McNair, David Garrard & now Leonard Fournette pretty much own the Steelers. I just thought of this, if Mike Tomlin does not win another playoff game and gets canned, he'll have started and ended his Head Coaching career with the Steelers with a heartbreaking loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

They were manhandled by the Jaguars and couldn't stop their running game. Bortles did just enough to manage the game properly (he was used properly).

Yes he is just a rookie, but reading between the lines, it sounds like Tomlin's (more than anything) trying to teach the facts of life. I wish he would teach him to be a mean, kick-*** football player as well.
 
find me one rookie that says anything bad about the coach that just drafted him 2 months ago.

Manhandled by the Jags?

Ben picked off inside the Pit 20. Resulting in a TD.

Ben has a fumble (recovered 50 yds and returned for a TD)

All in the first half. Jax was spotted 14 points.

Ben finished with 450+ yards Bortles barely had over 200.

Fournette had barely 100 but 3 TDs (2 short yarders)

Plus Ben had 4 drives either ending with punts or turnover in downs.

Turnovers by Ben killed drives and allowed points. Manhandled doesn’t equate to over 540+ yards on offense nor 42 points.

Defense didn’t get any T/Os and didn’t get any help from the Offense. Jax dinked and dunk on passes and ran the ball running out the time of possession.

Manhandled??

I forgot they were spotted 14 points from Ben (selective memory perhaps).

I thought I remembered the defense getting gashed by the run, but now that you mention it, Fournette got a lot of his yards on that one long run, was it?

In any case, I'm just seeing which of you are on your toes. :whistle:
