Fitzpatrick has made Steelers D Great Again

Fitzpatrick's play has directly contributed to three wins in seven games. The Steelers always play games close, so having this type of impact player has been huge.

How long has he been with the Steelers now, seven games? 5 INTs and 2 for TDs!

#FitzPickSix

His 5 Interceptions is tied for best in the league.
1 for a TD
2 forced fumbles
2 fumble recoveries, 1 for a TD.

Dude is on pace to be the Defensive Player of the Year.

I had no idea how very good he was but I knew that the D was missing something. He has certainly filled that need.

I didn't like the trade. Obviously I was wrong. They should easily get enough wins to make it a no brain trade value.

I loved it from the beginning (how's that for a coach type pat on the back?) It is nice to get a FS that can make plays on the ball. When I say nice I mean Troy Polamalu make plays on the ball nice. He might not have the hair but he has the woooooo Flair.

I was skeptical of the trade because of what it will do to the salary cap if it "worked" (which it is) or what pick we were giving up to get him (looking like top-10 at the time).

But there does appear to be a "plan" now moving forward if the powers that be don't screw it up.

This team is going to be investing a LOT of money and salary cap into the defense now and maybe that's okay. Roethlisberger (even if he sticks around for 2 more years) is going to be coming off the books. We either give Rudolph a very cheap starter deal or we move on. There is little money in the running back. We'll pay JuJu but the rest of the receiving core will be cheap. We will draft new offensive linemen and the old guard (and there high salaries) will be moving on.

Expect a LOT of offensive players getting drafted now. Offensive linemen. Tight ends. Wide receivers. Honestly, long term, only JuJu is a sure thing. All the others are replaceable, including the offensive line at this point of their careers and level of play. The cap casualties will be coming from the offensive linemen.

It will be interesting to see how Roethlisberger deals with this over the next two seasons (if he does). The focus of this team and it's monetary resources is not going to go to the offense - it will be used to sign up this young defense.

Is JuJu a sure thing?

Dude's got 503 yards and 3 touchdowns through 9 games as a #1 receiver this season. Yes, I know the QB situation hasn't been ideal, but he just doesn't seem to be getting open very often against #1 corners.

He is nursing foot injuries and still is the teams most productive WR. Saying the QB situation isn't ideal is downplaying the loss of BigBen. Who is an elite QB. So say JuJu is a high end number 2 WR? Still good enough to win with. But let us see what he looks like with BigBen back next year....perhaps that question/perception changes.

I'm not downplaying the loss of Ben, that's why I mentioned the QB situation. JuJu is a proven fine #2, playing with a monster who can draw the other team's best coverage. No doubt. Is he the surest of sure things on his own? Haven't seen it thus far.

Keep an eye on Diontae Johnson, though...I think he's the better choice to eventually develop #1 capabilities.

I think Juju can be a #1, he doesn't have that quick twitch type quickness or speed but he gets open and makes big plays.

Diontae does have that quick twitch to him and can really create after catches. I like what we have in both of them.

He played solid in games without AB with Ben at the helm or not? I think he can be a solid number 1 he is just being held back by injury and QB play.

Juju is fine. Young QB. Drawing the big coverage. It's all relative here. That was a team in the SB months ago. Their big receiver was shut out. They have little to no run game. I think some of you have to re evaluate offensive expectations.

**** Rodney Harrison, but I'll take this:

Not so fast my friend....

The Steelers traded up to draft Troy Polamalu.

Bettis and Troy trades would be 1 and 2. Minkah trade would be #3.

Considering the sample size is not even half a season—I’d rank the trade up for Santonio Holmes higher—the way he stepped up in 2008 playoffs was the difference in maker on offense in both the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP and Super Bowl. A trade that brings a ring ranks higher even if it ended badly - which resulted in a trade that acquired the pick that got Antonio Brown...who despite his meltdown was the best WR of his generation.

The trade down for Casey Hampton that allowed to acquire Kendrell Bell wasn’t bad either.

Trading up for Bush hasn’t been a bust by any means.

Minkah is trending high, and no reason to believe it’ll stop—but it’ll be bigger than others with #7

This is up there with the Jerome trade. One person creating an identity. I was completely against it, and I was wrong.

We gave away very little for Jerome so I'd put that trade at the top but this is by far the best trade the Steelers have made other than for Jerome.

Yes. He is so young for a 2nd contract (he'll be 24) that you are paying for PRIME years, even on the back end. And considering some of the other baggage you get from WR's, I think JuJu is as sure a bet at a 2nd contract as any Steeler on the roster. I think the coach/GM/ownership like him that much.

The talent is there. Again, our offense after Roethlisberger is going to morph into something a bit different than what we are used to. JuJu with his size and ability is going to fit with that really well.

No doubt JuJu gets a 2nd contract. Conner will be given some sort of offer but no guarantee he takes it as it won't be top dollar and if he keeps getting injured, they may not even make him an offer. I can see Diontae getting a 2nd offer and he's still a rookie. The kid just looks to have it already. Washington is a maybe but it won't be an earth shattering offer unless he continues to get significantly better. Most of the O-line will be gone when Ben retires or shortly thereafter so that will be the real interesting one to watch.

5 catches for 37 yards on 10 targets against the Bengals in week 17 last year, with a long of 12 yards. And Cincinnati had the worst pass defense in the league. #32 of 32 teams.

Not exactly solid, IMO. Let alone #1 caliber.

Do you mean he's going to morph into a better blocker?

Didn't know where to put this so I'll just put it here. Love when these guys start breaking down the all-22. Couple clips of Steven Nelson:
