Here's a fantastic article that outlines the coaching moves made by Tomlin his season, and the great job Fichtner and Butler are doing.

I know I've discussed it a bit with Coach and Mr Peeples, but here's a guy that's paid to do it. It is a bit more eloquent than myself, and provides a complete observation of all of the moves made from last season through this one.:

GREAT READ !!!!! Thanks for posting...

Salute the nation

On no Cope. Coach’s head is going to explode. Posting something objective that is the antithesis of his Agenda AND written from the guy who booted him from the paper!

Did I read it right that MT called that pass for Dobbs in Balt? How can that be? He can’t coach, or do X & O’s?

Personally I thought Randy did with his animated response after JuJu’s catch.

And I'm not throwing shade at Coach. It's just refreshing to read that someone else sees what you see.

I'm a Steelers die hard, and when I was younger I didn't drink the Kook-Aid, I had an I.V.. Now that I'm older, and I've seen 3 incredible coaches run this team, and watch how the dynamics and team chemistry changes from year to year, I've gotten a lot more objective.

I love when the team wins. And when they start stacking wins, I start to ask myself, what has changed? If you're used to the status quo, of thinking this team or franchise can't learn from their mistakes, then I can see how this year's team is such a surprise. But this article points out exactly, what coaching moves have happened to not only ensure success, but to build toward a long playoff run.

Ultimately football is a game, and I know games can fall on a lot of different variables (TOs, Injuries, Penalties, Missing wide open opportunities), but this team is giving itself its best chance to win, and I haven't enjoyed seeing that for quite a few years.

I saw a stat on PFF that since the bye, the Steelers have blitzed the most in the league by far...over half their snaps. Kudos to Butler for recognizing the D needed to get more pressure which has provided much better results.

Yeah great read, thanks for sharing it here Cope. Lots of good little tidbits and optimism (and rightfully so).

I'm wondering about the Vince Williams comment and him being quiet, is it he's letting Bostic come into his own or another reason?

I'm not complaining about Fichtner, he has done a very solid job. My ***** is what took them so long to ditch Haley, who is such a jack ***.

He helped Ben quicken his release, and the team was winning. I am sure those two facts filtered in, until his contract ran out. Then they didn't have to fire him, they could just say seeya.

I am a Steelers die hard too, nice to meet ya.:becky:

I am hard on Tomlin at times, but I am happy this season with the job he has done.

And the points that I still make here and there, I hope he disproves all the negatives this year.

That would cause Steelersnation a lot of happiness.

But regardless to date he and Fitch and co has done a solid job.

Still not sold on Butler, but ya know improvement brings few complaints.

Meh Tomlin is still relatively young for a HC.
There are plenty of things Id like him to do better but he is learning... his obtuse use of a single RB not only increases the likelihood of wear and tear injuries and burnout, but it also pumps up stats that may have lead to the Bell situation imploding... but hopefully he learns...

As for the “Improved” D... call me when they face a QB that challenges coverage and reads blitzes well....

Overuse of the running back? Did you see how he managed touches on a short week? I didn't think he had that in him.

Those three will show us how good the Efense is... they can earn their D back then...

But for Tomlin im more interested in how they perform against the Jags, Broncos, and especially the Raiders... Tomlin has had trouble getting the team focused for scrub or underperforming teams...

Same here. Was great to see. And Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco & Cam Newton are no slouches when it comes to challenging coverage and reading blitzes. Well, Flacco's a slouch in general. But yeah the true test is coming for sure.

I could be wrong on this, but 4 of the 6 best Steeler offenses (total rank) of all-time came under Haley. Now I'm not saying Haley was the sole reason by any means, but I think he helped teach Ben to get rid of the ball quicker and become a more cerebral pocket passer.

I do know that the Steelers offense was top 10 (and some top 5) from 2014-2017 where they went to the playoffs each year. Only to ultimately disappoint, but it wasn't like Haley was this terminal cancer holding the team back. I think they broke their own record for points in a season in 2014 with 436 under Haley. All that said, I'm glad he's gone and the offense (and especially the RZ TDs) are humming along.

Yea, lets wait to hand out the awards till after the season is over. I give them a lot of credit for turning the **** show around this year but I want to see them win some of these big games that are coming up.

Gotta win in the regular season to make the playoffs. Took a pretty weak D all the way to the AFCCG just 2 years ago.

They've been piss poor in the playoffs for far too long.

Afccg is piss poor? Sure that was a particularly ****** game, but it was no shittier than watching it happen to better defenses when cowher was in charge. Just getting that team to the afccg was an achievement

Playoff record is the ultimate ******* in statistics. If you don't win a superbowl that year, you don't have a long playoff run of positive effect. If you're the 1/2 seed and you lose in the AFCC you are 1-1 or 500. A successful season. Top 4 in the NFL. 500 record.

Harbaugh is 10-5 in the playoffs and has as many super bowl rings and one less appearance than Tomlin at 8-7.

Harbaugh also missed the playoffs for the past 4/5 years and will probably miss it this year (5/6). He will not be in Baltimore next year. Has a great playoff record, will be unemployed because of his regular season record.

The only way to have a good record in the playoffs is to make it to the superbowl. Otherwise your team will be 500 in the playoffs or winless.

A lot of fans want to keep pointing toward past production as a future indicator, but that is never the case. Each team is different. This team is different, and this coaching staff is different. It is more equipped to handle NE this year, and we'll all see that in a few weeks.
