Eli Rogers is Quickly Becoming a Household Name

Well said Zach! i had no idea he had that kind of film prep in his rookie season. It's a reason why he looks like a vet and not a rookie when he's executing on the field. I can't be happier for that guy!

The premise is total BS. He is no where near a "household name." AB IS a household name. Ben is a household name. Bell is a household name. NONE of the other WRs are household names, unless your house is in Pgh.

The fantasy football guys all know who Eli Rogers is. And millions play. I picked him up for my team for a $1 bid and everyone said who? He's not on my list! He could be a Wes Walker type of player.
I thought the headline was "is quickly becoming" ... Not "is" a household name. The use of "becoming" with "is" tends to mean that the subject is not there yet. So, the writer's "premise" is one of optimism that this will change. Doesn't seem like bullshit to me. Hell, I like the optimism and hope the writer is proven right. But then again, I'm a Steelers fan.
I really like him on the crossing route. He had a little trouble sitting where Ben wanted him too on that hook. I think by mid season he will be the best receiver not named Brown on the roster.
He definitely learned from the mistake. He made the correct turns on his routes and he even had the sense to get down and protect the football after he had picked up extra yardage. All of these things were noted during the game. He's going to be a tough cover for any team if AB gets double covered. Now we just need Wheaton healthy and Coates making plays and this team will be very difficult to stop.
Couldn't be happier for the guy. Honestly, he reminds me a lot of AB in his route running (he looks like he knows what he's doing) and just their size in general. Of course, he's nowhere near AB's level but they look similar on the field at times. Next year when Wheaton is gone and Martavis is back(hopefully). AB and Martavis on the outsides and Rogers in the slot, that is just downright scary.
He's a rookie, he'll make mistakes, but he is showing a lot promise. The way he looked reminds me of that guy Kearse in Seattle

The biggest think from him that I loved during the game on Monday night was his ability to move on from the mistake that he had in the 1st quarter that was a huge factor in the interception. Young players tend to hold onto their mistakes. Rogers found a way to put it behind him and move on. That's huge.

I'm not knocking his skill or effort, just saying he is NOT a household name. No one in my league knew who he was. And if he makes your starting line up, you have a less-than-awesome team.
And I don't think he will ever reach a Wes Welker-level status - Wes Welker didn't have an AB on his team (although he might have had Moss for one season).
However, he will get more balls down the road, as Wheaton is probably gone after this season (and I am aware he was hurt last game).

Let's not forget he was able to "move on" after his future Hall of Fame QB had a little chat with him. Ben is now a legit leader.

It's fine that Ben had a talk with him afterwards. Young players still get into their own heads after making mistakes like that regardless if a future HOFer talks to them or not. It definitely helped with the encouragement but the point remains the same. He was able to move on and make plays later in the game.
In regards to your original issue with my post, I never said he was already a household name. Heck, I never even said he was a Pro Bowl caliber player. But if your quarterback trusts you, your team trusts you, and your coaches trust you, you're going to become a household name EVENTUALLY regardless of the elite talent above you on the depth chart (AB) if you continue to perform well. The targets will continue to be there for him, especially as he continues to develop. The argument can be made that in 2 seasons, Martavis Bryant became a household name due to his deep-threat prowess. And he had AB with him. It's a bit early to say that Rogers can't become a household name because of AB.
Is it early to be getting this high on Rogers? Perhaps. But the optimism is evident after watching him during the preseason and against the Redskins. He will likely have some hiccups along the way but what young player doesn't? If Rogers puts together games like this all season, he will come close to being a 1000 yard receiver this season. If that happens, people will most definitely know who Eli Rogers is.
I understand your argument, but I am going to have to disagree with it. Just my opinion.
my house is in Texas...we all know Rogers' name.....
I am in 5 leagues...he was picked up before week 1 in 4 of them...in half of those the guys who picked him up are not Steelers fans...
the article didn't say he WAS a household name it stated he is BECOMING one...a few more weeks like this past one and his name will begin to be discussed...

The coaches, specifically offensive coordinator Todd Haley, asked him to identify the best and worst cover man on the other team’s defense and explain why. Rogers would pick them out as asked, but he would go a step further by also breaking down coverage tendencies of the entire defense, specific techniques defensive backs utilized, and plays he thought the Steelers receivers could use to beat them. This weekly process was a testament to his work ethic and mind for the game that stood out to the coaches.

Wes Welker is an appropriate comparison. Welker wasn't a household name when he was undrafted by Miami. He still wasn't a household name when the Pats traded for him. You tell me a football fan that doesn't know who Wes Welker is now. Eli can be that type of player, and the scary thing is, he is faster, and quicker than Welker. By the end of this year, people are going to know him very well.
I already stated this a couple times, but Eli's emergence makes Wheaton expendable. He will probably not return to us next season unless he signs a very friendly home team deal.

Yeah I was a little confused on that pass. I thought Rogers sat in a good spot. It was almost like Ben expected a hook and go or something. I already like him better than wheaton. Coates is still raw. Bryant has amazing big play ability, but seems to disappear at times. It is definitely not far fetched to see him being second best in the near future.

Some of these guys crack me up. To finally give Ben Rothlesberger a "legit" leader aclamade is HILLARIOUS. Ben "talked" to the rookie and now is suddenly legit...... Have you NOT seen BR talk to any other players ever????? He has been legitamite for quite some time now.

This **** is so complicated it's hard to say. It definitely wasn't hook and go. He was supposed to sit but it looked like Ben was leading him to catch and run and he just stuck in the sand and didn't slide to the spot. But if Ben had just drilled it to where he was it would have been a completion anyway.
