Eagles release inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks

some things are better off left unsaid. It was hard to digest the Eagles one but I understood once you explained you lived in Philly. But let those sleeping dogs lie !

It's also my 3rd favorite team to watch, not necessarily a team I love, but I do root for them if the Steelers aren't in the playoffs.

Yea, I'm not going to say it, but I do watch a TON of football during the season. Not as much as I used to watch in the 90s. I used to watch every Sunday and Monday night game. Now unless it's a great matchup, or one of my favorite teams, I won't watch.

Though my wife and I were watching the first half of the season's TNF games just for Romo. He's damn entertaining, and a nice change to the boring status quo of announcing we've had to endure.

Another cool thing about rooting for the Eagles:

I get to root against the Redskins the Cowboys twice a year!

And if heads explode here about be liking another team, god forbid they find out my #3...

I don't see anything wrong with it. There's not really a rivalry between the Eagles and Steelers. If anything, I could see each team's fans pulling for the other when their team is out. We were the Steagles in 1943.

Obviously I'm all Steelers when they play each other. Though I went to a preseason game in Philly and had peanuts thrown at me in the upper deck. Eagles fans never pump the breaks when it comes to attacking opposing fans, regardless of whether the game means anything at all.

I agree that Kendrick's strength would be his blitzing if he was on our D. I don't think he'd be better than Williams, since his 8 sacks last year are more than Kendrick's 5 sacks over the past 3, but I will concede an ILB in a 3-4 has more chances to rush the passer than an ILB in a 4-3.

The one thing Kendricks showed me, is he can't cover athletic TEs, which is his responsibility on slants, drags, digs, and short posts on a drop. No way can he defend a seam. It's a big reason why eagles fans and the team knew he wasn't the answer at ILB. Quick, tough slot receivers give him fits as well.

Here are their stats for reference:

Mychal: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/K/KendMy00.htm

Vince: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WillVi01.htm

I am not really sure what these two stat comparisons really show. Tackles can come from flow to the ball, instinct, or back tracking being a step late enabling yardage but managing to make the tackle.

Vince had his best tackle statistical year, but yet the Steelers struggled in run D.

Also if a team is running more successfully a LBer will have more opportunities to tackle.

One team can have a soso D-line or a teammate that he is trying to overcompensate for.

Sometimes you can see a 100+ tackle stat and see that player flows to the ball well or gets off blocks well. Or again maybe he just gets a ridiculous amount of opportunities to build his stats.

Or maybe their mate is so fast that it leaves a lot of garbage clean up opportunities.

So you look at a good team with a player that has held down a start for some time. that might be worthy of a look.

But with three ILbers in the mix, perhaps they simply don't want to add a 4th.

I really don't follow other teams in the nfl away from the Steelers.
But the Eagles never really bothered me. No interstate rivalry like the nhl has in state.

I will say, sometimes it's easy to root for other players on other teams, until they play the Steelers lol
But I don't see a problem for fans wishing for their in state teams to do well

Has to be the ravens. O.o

Cope bro lives in MD.

*gulp*
:peep:

No. Honestly, where do you put him? I think he'd be better in Williams spot, but today, I wouldn't take Williams and his 9 sacks, off the field for him.

I'm one of the few fans that also see Big Red as the starter on this team. When healthy, he's a thumping playmaker. Kendricks could compete with Bostic, they're essentially the same player, but Bostic is more durable. Kendrick's had his injuries that have kept him from ever reaching his full potential.

So to conclude, IMHO, he'd be a backup on this team, not a savior.

I don't see dirty red as a thumper, more like a tackler but definetly not an enforcer. he lacks that power

Are you talking about Cope or our LB ?????

Salute the nation

You are right, there are a lot of variables when it comes to tackles, though scheme would also be a huge variable.

We run a 3-4 with 2 ILBs splitting tackles. They run a 4-3 with one ILB. Players like Willis/Lewis/Seau were tackling machines in these schemes, because the ILB is supposed to be the most athletic of the 3 LBs in that system.

Kendricks was not and was replaced often because of it. His inability to stay on the field as a 3 down ILB also hurt his tackling numbers.

Ouch. Maybe Cope was right and he was overrated. Poor guy though, never would wish that on my worst enemy.

I dont think the Steelers are in the market. I think they feel a healthy dirty red is a whole lot different player.

I hope he goes to the browns. Vance and JaySam will eat him alive.

Hilarious that he's denying it. Only the browns can get that much venom from a FA who doesn't want to be there or didn't talk to his agent first...
