Eagles release inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks

How? He's closer to Vince Williams.

.

??? Vince Williams? Kendricks is a stud athlete and could run circles around Williams. He may have some coverage issues with TE's... but how many LB's don't? Also... he gives us depth outside. At Cal, he had more snaps as an OLB than an ILB.

I have always been a fan. I say sign him today. Two year at 9mil total.

Sign him!

Pretty much sums him up:

"Kendricks tested great athletically when he came out of Cal in 2012, but in terms of coverage, it never quite came together for him — either playing guys straight-up in man or having exceptional instincts in zone. With Hicks and Bradham healthy, he was going to go back to being a part-time player in base (roughly 30 percent of the snaps). He’ll be best served in a scheme that can make use of his versatility (ability to rush the passer) and athleticism." - Sheil Kapadia The Athletic

Sorry, I'm not paying a guy that had less than 30% of his teams' defensive snaps last year. He had potential, then he became a liability. It's why no one wanted to trade for him, and it's why he's still unemployed now. He's not going to get signed unless it's for around a $2M show me deal. Eagles have been trying to move him for 3 years, and still no one wants a part of him.

He thinks he's better than he is, and it creates locker room disruptions. Not something we need when we already have 3 ILBs on our roster better than him and for half the price (Big Red, Bostic, Williams). You want to pay a guy $4.5M/yr to be a backup?

Again, Hard pass...

Does anyone know of he has any visits set up yet and with who? I haven't heard or read anything yet.

I stand by my statement. Mychal Kendricks is the closest ILB in the game today to 50. Shaz isn't the greatest pass defender - we know this - and they both can blitz like demons due to their elite speed.

IMO, Kendricks performed best when he was at ILB in Philly's 3-4...feel free to research that...

No, he isn't. What in the **** are you watching?

Yes or no, Kendricks would start at ILB for the steelers if he was on the team.

You are evaluating him against an ideal. I'm evaluating him against the steelers current ****** ILBs.

NEAR league minimum and a pair of BLACK and GOLD (not ******* yellow) SOCKS...!!!!!

Salute the nation

I'm in agreement with most. Sign him for added depth and/or a potential playmaker at this position.

He’s young enough to sign a one year prove it deal then look to cash in next year. Maybe he signs an incentive laid contract with a league min and no guaranteed money.

No. Honestly, where do you put him? I think he'd be better in Williams spot, but today, I wouldn't take Williams and his 9 sacks, off the field for him.

I'm one of the few fans that also see Big Red as the starter on this team. When healthy, he's a thumping playmaker. Kendricks could compete with Bostic, they're essentially the same player, but Bostic is more durable. Kendrick's had his injuries that have kept him from ever reaching his full potential.

So to conclude, IMHO, he'd be a backup on this team, not a savior.

I know eagles fans, I know their players well (they are my second favorite team). Here is a good read to get the eagle fan's educated perspective of Kendricks:

It’s entirely possible these players won’t be as good as Kendricks. But it’s not like Kendricks was some reliable difference-maker. Yes, he was good in 2017. But let’s not act like he hasn’t had his fair share of ups and downs throughout an erratic career. I mean, this is ultimately a dude who has produced zero interceptions, one forced fumble, and five sacks in his last 43 games.

The Eagles were my second favorite team for several hours on February 4th, 2018, but other than that:

I'm a central PA boy. I love both cities and lived in Philly for 13 years. Still not enough to wrestle my love ever for the Steelers. In football there is a large gap between 1 Steelers and 2 Eagles.

In hockey it was closer to 1A Pens and 1B Flyers until I met flyers fans and played hockey with them for 13yrs. Now I enjoy watching them loose and them *****.

In Baseball the Phillies are my favorite baseball team, and the Pirates are my favorite minor league team...

It's the Seahawks, isn't it?

I don't think he's a savior but he's better than Vince. Kendricks could be a great blitzer in the 3-4. I also think that the types of coverages in the 3-4 are a better fit for him. He'd need time to adjust but he could be a factor later in the season.

Another cool thing about rooting for the Eagles:

I get to root against the Redskins the Cowboys twice a year!

And if heads explode here about be liking another team, god forbid they find out my #3...

some things are better off left unsaid. It was hard to digest the Eagles one but I understood once you explained you lived in Philly. But let those sleeping dogs lie !

I agree that Kendrick's strength would be his blitzing if he was on our D. I don't think he'd be better than Williams, since his 8 sacks last year are more than Kendrick's 5 sacks over the past 3, but I will concede an ILB in a 3-4 has more chances to rush the passer than an ILB in a 4-3.

The one thing Kendricks showed me, is he can't cover athletic TEs, which is his responsibility on slants, drags, digs, and short posts on a drop. No way can he defend a seam. It's a big reason why eagles fans and the team knew he wasn't the answer at ILB. Quick, tough slot receivers give him fits as well.
