First off, Mark Madden is a jack-***. He's going to say whatever he can to rile up the masses of Steeler fans and THAT is going to certainly succeed. He's practically guaranteed to get a good radio hour out of THAT horse-**** comment.
That said, I don't know that even Lambert would suggest he was all that great. He played behind agruably the best defensive line in the history of the game. He also had one of the best linebackers in the game from a technical standpoint next to him. That gave Lambert a fair amount of free range to "Polomalu" around and make plays. Top that with Mel Blount and an amazing safety tandem and admittedly, I'd say Lambert had a good gig.
Not that he wasn't an amazing player. He held his own and more in that group. While offenses had to deal with the defensive line, Andy Russell, Mel Blount, the smarts and power of Wagner and Shell, they also had to deal with the aggression and hostility of Lambert.
Man, can you just imagine it. What an amazing group.
