Dumb question to those that saw Lambert play,

Just think with the kind of offseason programs we have now how badass he would be rolling in at about 245lbs of **** your world up. I was either Swann or Lambert on the playground as a kid when playing football.

I think his level of intensity set him apart. The quote from Elway stuck with me for a long time. I paraphrase ... "I looked
across the line and saw Lambert frothing and drooling and I thought take the money back. I don't want to play." I'm sure that's not exactly what he said but you get the meaning.

Then there's the hand made sign on the Denver locker room wall back then.......Complete w/ Steeler logo it said "#58 Comes to play." That my friends, is respect!

To look at it another way, before '74 the Steelers had Greene, Holmes, L.C., Dwight, Blount, Wagner, Ham, Russell, J.T. Thomas, Franco, Rocky and Bradshaw and didn't win a SB. They draft Lambert in '74 and the rip off 4 in 6. I know Swann, Stallworth and Webster were in that draft, but they were part time players in '74. Lambert was a starter. I don't know if it is too much to say that he is the one that pushed them that little bit they needed to get over the hump.

Edit; my bad misread your post

Most people don't realize that Big Ben is bigger than Lambert was at his playing weight/size. He wasn't that big. But damn he could play.

Got to meet him once, and kinda sorta irritated him. Made me nearly **** my pants. Then I thought, "That's the way it should have been. I met the real Jack Lambert."

Will never forget that.

Definitely an....... irascible personality. I consider myself very fortunate to count Jack among my friends. Got to know him pretty well over the years. We've golfed, played pinochle and partied (a lot, lol), been to his home numerous times, etc. Used to really piss him off by riling up his Weimeraner Willy inside the house. Very good man but you most definitely better have a thick skin and give as good as you get. It's been a number of years since we've spoken....just kinda drifted away to different interests as people do.He has a couple of daughters now and last I heard he was very into coaching and helping out with their sports and activities.

I really wish Mark Madden was covering another team. He's not always wrong, he's just loud and sloppy.

Madden thinks Jack Ham is the best linebacker of all time.

I don't necessarily think that's wrong. Ham was as technical a LB who has ever played. That whole defense was incredible.

Lambert would probably be the first to tell you jack ham IS the best of all time. He introduced me to "Hammer" one night and I can tell you he has mad respect for him.

As far as who could or couldn't play in today's NFL I look at it kind of like Navy Seal training.....mental commitment and toughness will get you through more or as much as physical toughness or size. Lambert's mental game was second to none, imo.

Flame retardant! Please.....I'm not comparing being a Seal to being a football player.....just an analogy that seemed apt.
