Michael Floyd's disastrous 2016 season has cost him a job.

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that they have released the wide receiver in the wake of Monday's arrest on drunken driving charges. Floyd was previously arrested in 2011 for driving under the influence.

To add depth at the position, the team signed journeyman wideout and kick returner Jeremy Ross.

With his rookie contract expiring, Floyd was set to reach free agency in March. All but eliminated from the playoff picture following last week's loss at Miami, the Cardinals opted to pull the cord with three games remaining in a disappointing season.

Floyd was set up for a monstrous contract year after closing out last season with five 100-yard performances in the final eight games. Instead, the enigmatic receiver was one of the primary culprits in Arizona's broken aerial attack this season, vanishing for long stretches and failing to make contested catches.

Despite career lows in receptions (33) and yards (446), he has already dropped more passes in 13 games than he managed in any previous season.

The 2012 first-round draft pick certainly isn't without talent. At his best, Floyd is a dangerous downfield threat with the size to move the chains on third downs and out-leap defenders in the red zone.

That said, he's shown no hint of that potential as one of the league's least effective receivers in 2016. It will be interesting to see if a postseason contender in need of a deep threat claims him on waivers in the next 48 hours.

Yea, easy to take the "moral high ground" when they guy was stinking up the joint. Had he made 100 catches as opposed to 33, I wonder if they would be so quick to cut him.

He had a prior in 2011. They don't clear for 7 years. Thus he has 2 on his record. At 3 it becomes felony regardless of circumstance.

He didn't give them a ton of choice.

I'm just saying: Teams mysteriously give players more rope who are producing big time. If he was putting up AB #'s something tells me the Cards would find "compassion" to help him with his "issues."

Maybe it should be soon to be Steeler written all over it. This team badly needs a clear 2 receiver. Maybe bring him in. You don't have to really worry about his character. He would be part of the team for hopefullytwo months.

Many here have stated "WIN NOW". Bring him in, see the gas in the tank, keep or move on. Can never hurt to see what someone has to offer in ability.

Saluted the nation

Bring him in see if he can cut it, pay him the minimum and tell him he has to Uber to work.
And if he goes out and drinks tell him McCullars and Tuitte are going to beat his ***.

You can't pay him the minimum if you claim him on waivers because you have to take on his existing contract.

Details. FAK these kids, I would still give him a chance and make it conditional. No way I would believe people in AZ didn't know this player has issues. Anybody that plays nice nice with a drug and alcohol abuser is just another enabler. You have to draw clear lines that have consequences. Maybe this kid can play maybe not; he was a first round pick for crissakes.

Well, see, that's how that works. You're worth the hassle if your producing, if you suck, well, less leeway. This is a life lesson sadly many of todays yutes do not get.

3/16 of 7.32 mil is less than 1.4 million. If he is a viable option and there is room, cut someone and make it happen.

Well, cutting someone isn't going to save us any cap space at this point so you are reducing next year's cap by $1.4 million (any free room would roll over to next year) to get this guy on the roster for 3 games, maybe by the playoffs he will actually have some sense of the playbook ...

Local news outlets here have Cardinal players showing regret, disappointment in Floyd, saying he's a good guy, golf buddy etc.
His lack of production could be Palmer related as much as anything.

A talent, but he does have baggage. Maybe Cleveland will pick him up rather than a contender.

Free agent at the end of the season still if claimed on waivers.

hell yes bring him in. if we can.

******* here would have traded for Josh Gordon prior to him ******* up again. If he can get sober, we'd have some nice depth at wr

Some teams, that's true. On the other hand, the Steelers cut Santonio Holmes after a Superbowl MVP season for the weed...

Integrity. You have it or you don't.

I say give him a good look....hes a big receiver 6'3" runs a 4.46. If Sammie isn't ready, it cant hurt to give him a 2 month tryout. We can cut him at the end of the season or bring him back during camp. Hes the best available that can produce and take pressure off Antonio.

I thought it was for more than just weed. Santonio had battery charge in South Florida while he was with us. I think that along with the weed made him expendable.
