Donte Moncrief - Ike Mongrief - Hands that work like feet

yeah, i figured we'd have Juju on the outside, running a full tree route. Thought Juju did better from the slot.

speaking of ... we seriously need to get rid of that 3 WR bubble. Pats showed last night exactly how to counter that with an OLB faking the rush then dropping back into the zone.

IMHO, the WR Screen is best used as a constraint play to force the OLB from cheating up on the off tackle run play. I was watching on my phone so I don't know if the guy was cheating up on prior run plays to draw that kind of call. Either way, I would expect a fake handoff to draw the OLB in. Did we go straight to the pass or did we at least try to fake the h/o? I don't recall. I do recall the OLB dropping darn fast to the screen and nearly getting himself a pick 6.

The WR screen might work better if they didn't keep throwing it to Switzer. Guy adds no value. At all. Anywhere.

yeah, Simon was showing that he was pass rushing. then dropped back into coverage - ala Harrison (**** Deebo) in the Super Bowl.

There were at least 2 plays that just screamed the P*ts knew exactly what was coming. First, when Roethlisberger fake pitched to the right to JaySam then pitched left to Conner. The P*ts linebacker never hesitated a moment. He didn't blitz Ben, he didn't fill his own gap, he ran EXACTLY where Connor was going to receive the pitch. Sure, it "could" have been a great defensive play. Or it could have been knowing that a fake pitch outside toss was coming.

Then on the bubble screen that was nearly picked off. The linebacker was in better position than (JuJu?). That could have been a heads up play, but with the cheats history, I doubt it.

I don’t understand where Washington supposedly gained all this speed. They kept talking about him like he’s Desean Jackson out there. All I saw were Pats DBs running right next to him.

You can say that about ALL our WRs, none of them got any separation all night, they were smothered and none got deep

Poor Ben, he cant even throw guys open with DBs on their hip every play

After this pathetic display Moncrief should be benched and moved to that #5 spot on the depth chart. Ben did nobody any favors showing continued trust in him, kept going back to Moncrief time and time again. For the love of God, enough is enough. Drop him to the bottom of the pecking order and force him to work his way back up.

Hopefully it was just a bad game, maybe his finger hasn't fully recovered? But another game or two like that and he may very well end up at #5.

Moncreep was terrible but he was just one of many that were. This WR corp isn't as strong as people thought. Plus Ben hasn't played much with any of them except JuJu. It's going to take time to learn them.

If only there were game situations before last night where Ben could have gotten used to throwing to them. Maybe they could call them, I dunno, pre-season games?

This whole league is filled with idiots in an echo chamber. It's difficult for anyone with an iq to watch. One team does something (the Rams) they get away with it (not playing starters in pre-season, go to Superbowl) and the rest of the league goes, oh, ok, that's how you do it. No, you ******* morons, just because someone one time jumped out of a plane without a parachute and didn't die, doesn't mean we all start jumping without them next season. The level of idiocy is ******* painful. Play your goddamn starters till they look like goddamn starters against other teams starters, every ******* pre-season game. Then you have a chance of not looking like total **** the first game.

And for the love of God, put a ******* fullback in and run the damn ball up the middle next time it's 4th and 1, or just ******* fire the whole offensive line, because if you don't have enough confidence in them to gain a yard on 4th and 1 against EVERY other team in the NFL, then they should not be your starting OL.

Joe

Ben continued to throw to Moncreif cause he was only WR open....because NE knew he'd drop the ball over and over again
Cut him and re-sign Eli Rodgers, at least he caught the ball!

But Mikey, like Hurdle does with a pitcher that gives up 8 runs in an inning...keep him on the mound, he'll work through it
Hurdle = loser
Wow!

If Colts lose a couple more games, I wonder if they would want to move on from TY Hilton. Him and Juju would be a great tandem.

yup - I just looked at it on the big screen rather than my phone. empty backfield so no way to show the off tackle run to draw the LB. You right, LB showed rush then dropped right into the pass lane.

Convince me that he shouldn't get cut from the team on the plane tonight..... GO.

Uhhh, they already paid for the return flight and the ticket is non-refundable?

That's all I have.

WTF? Your logic escapes me. Are you a liberal?

I am a liberal, having said that has anyone checked to see if Moncrief is back in Pittsburgh because I am doubtful he was able to catch the flight home, seeing as he dropped every ******* thing else.

And if the defense puts 9 guys in the box, all on the LOS, only then do you look at your WR on a wide-open slant for an easy 1st down.

Moncrief did not seem to have his head in the game period. His body language and effort seemed to be lacking

In camp I suggested we need to use our backs and McDonald a bit more until a reliable number two receiver emerges.

I sill think that way. Maybe Fichtner will think that way soon.

I would like to add there was a lot of handsy **** going on with the pats corners. I think on both sides of the ball that should be factored in. Not that the WRs need to get better quickly.

Imagine you're Skipper, Gilbert, or Berryman and ball out in the preseason and two of those three didn't make the Week 1 roster. Then you see a guy like Moncrief not practice at all and have no history of being a good player earn the No. 2 role on the team before having an atrocious start to the season.

A flight of fancy, Burgh. Will never happen.

Mongrief still cashing checks, two days after one of the worst WR performances since the forward pass was invented

I still think Montcrief can be a asset. The problem we have is that our coaching staff is a complete non factor. That all stems from the head coach.

pretty sure they didn't coach him up to drop easy catches or turn the wrong way on a corner route
