Rumor has it that the Steelers and Dolphins could be working on a deal that would swap receivers. Interesting NFL Rumor: Steelers and Dolphins have discussed Martavis Bryant trade.. Some interest in DeVante Parker from Steelers sideJust talks nothing close to done. Jets/Redskins/Colts also have varying degrees of interest in Bryant — IB ? (@incarceratedbob) […]

Parker has a lot of talent. He's also not one bad night away from being banned from the league.

Parker was a 1st rounder for a reason. He has lots of talent. He would absolutely be a great addition as a deep threat. Martavis proved this year that he's not happy being a 3rd option. If he's just going to pout and not give his all then trading him is a good move. Parker would be a good replacement.

Parker has an option for 2019 that can be picked up. It would be guaranteed fully for injury, and pay him some amount more than 8.6 million. Bryant is a UFA after 2018. Parker makes 1.9m, Bryant makes 705k.

I'd do it, assuming we don't have to do much more than swap a 5th for a 6th or something to that affect. I'd probably pick up that option but he's pretty injury prone.

Now that they have franchise tagged Landry they won't want to pay Parker too. You can't pay all three WRs $8-12M. makes you wonder what they plan to do with Bryant when they have so much invested in the position already.

For DeVante? They better be throwing in a middle LB or a draft pick, because I'd rather have Martavis.

I thought the Dolphins were cutting him...

Here are their stats:

RECEIVING GP RECYDS AVG YDS/GYACTD LNG BIG 100+TGT DROP PCT FUMFUML1ST PCT
Parker, DeVante MIA 13 57 670 11.8 51.5 212 1 36 6 0 96 2 59.4% 1 0 33 57.9%
Bryant, Martavis PIT 15 50 603 12.1 40.2 182 3 51 4 0 84 4 59.5% 0 0 30 60.0%

To be a little more objective, Parker had more receptions, yards, and YAC last hear than Martavis in less games. He also had a lower drop ratio a drop every 28.5 catches vs Bryant's drop for every 12.5 catches, which is still by far Bryant's best year for drops.

Bryan't has more explosiveness. His longest catch being 51 vs Parkers long first down long of 36. Bryant also has the height, reach, and speed advantage. He also has had more success in the NFL than Parker, and his ceiling is much higher IMHO. I just don't see Parker as ever being a 9-10TD/yr guy. If we take Parker, we're getting a tall possession receiver, and will no longer have a receiver that can take the top off the defense opposite of AB.

I don't know if this is a bad move since JuJu is going to be featured more anyway. Perhaps the Steelers are already thinking of moving JuJu full time, to the Z on 2 WR sets and sliding him inside to the slot on 3/4WR sets, as he did a bit of last year.

The financial impact of this trade, keeping in mind the Steelers are cash strapped:

Bryant $705K Cap $705K
Parker $1.918M Cap $3.46M

This move does not make any sense financially. Giving up $2.75M for about the same player is a terrible financial move. Especially when that money can go to getting an ILB or Safety.

When I read we were swapping WR's with the Dolphins, I thought "hell yeah I'd take Jarvis Landry". Then I saw it was DeVante...pass.

Yeah, im not seeing anything from Parker that makes me want to jump on this. I take it for only 2 reasons:

1) Bryant, truly, does not want to be here; or
2) i dont think he has matured enough to stay clean.

I thought Bryant really struggled to locate the football on long balls early in the year. It wasn't til the last couple of games when AB went down that he actually started to catch some nice deep balls. By that time he had also been surpassed by Juju. With Rogers tearing his ACL v the Jags, we will need another WR on the roster as Rogers will miss the entire off season and probably some of the regular season. Would guess he goes on the PUP list. If they're gonna move Bryant now would be the best time to do so. I don't see him getting another contract with the team.

funny I bet the Dolphin fans are saying the same thing Bryant and a 4th for adams... I personally think Bryant is better but his baggage scares me

you'd have to wonder about why Martavis wouldn't want to be here. This is his contract year. He needs to shine to get a good second contract. Is he going to be able to do that better in MIA or in PIT with a better QB throwing him the ball?

Looks like Parker isn't getting any more looks than Martavis so it seems unlikely he gets used more in MIA and has an inferior QB.
