Do you hire Da' El Collins as a UFA?

EDIT. Sorry this in response to Tape

Actually he wasn't drafted in later rounds because he had his agent tell all the teams he would refuse to sign with anyone who drafted him outside of the 3rd round. He thought he was eligible to reenter the draft next year, he was wrong. And now, he will make even less than if he was drafted round 4 or 5, or 6.

And he will be eligible to sign a new contract in year 3 instead of year 5. He will have positioned himself to cash in on contract #2 a full two years earlier than if he was drafted in the first round. So, he's losing millions now that he could recoup in ... let's say two years.

He'll make less than those rounds for 2 seasons, but he is eligible to renegotiate after 2 seasons or if he merely plays 3 years at the league min, and gets a first round tender he will make more than the 42nd player in the draft according to PFT.

So basically if he is innocent and signs with a team he will have to bust his butt off to get his future cash.

Just see Rae Carruth.

Or maybe not. If it is his kid...for it's sake I hope he had nothing to do with it....football aside.

Unfortunately, I think I read that the kid passed away too.

Or just play to the level of ability that people think he has I guess. Good OL get paid, We're going to see that first hand here soon with some of our guys.

The NFL said he would be eligible for neither the supplemental draft nor next year's draft. His agent then told the NFL that COllins would sign with a team if he was drafted. I think they did that because they saw they had no other option.

he will likely just get a minimum contract as a free agent. Yes, he could get a new contract earlier than high draft picks, but those picks have something Collins won't. Guaranteed money in the bank. What if he blows out a knee as a rookie?

As i said, if this kid is found to have no connection to this incident, he needs to threaten to sue so that he can be put in the supplemental draft.

If he had been drafted this year, then he could choose to sit out a year and re-enter the draft next year. The fact he was not drafted negates that possibility. Collins can easily show he was projected to be drafted in the first round. If he can sue and find evidence that the league encouraged teams not to draft him, then he should have a case. At least enough of one to probably get the NFL to cave and let him go in the supplemental.

Its going to be hard to prove that since there are multiple quotes from his agent saying he would refuse to sign with anyone who drafted him late... stupid agent... by not being drafted he lost the ability to be in the draft next year

Since he's locked into his league minimum salary as a UDFA, I'm sure his agent will be pushing for a short term contract of 1-2 years. This way they can get to the next contract ASAP. I'm sure if he starts year one and does well, they will be pushing hard for a new contract year 2.

I think it's part of the CBA that UDFA contracts are for three years.

**** happens. Far better players than Colluns went undrafted without the legal red flags.

this country it is guilty until proven innocent

and how much money do you have for a lawyer

system is flawed but isn't going to be changed any time soon

No, that's Mexico. napoleanic law. Lots of people think everything is legal in Mexico, when the opposite is true.

When someone gets arrested in this country, there's usually a good reason. Many charges get dismissed or reduced even with public defenders. A good lawyer is nice, a stupid jury is better.

I imagine Collins, if cleared, will want to go somewhere he can start right away. Buffalo, maybe New Orleans. My guess is that he signs with the Saints. We told BJ Finney he can compete to start, presumably with Foster, so I guess anything is possible. I seriously doubt he signs with us, but it would be a huge f'n steal.

The kid is pretty stupid. Had a 12 wonderlic (which is really low for an O-lineman).

Something's not right. Just like Gregory, there is something teams know that we don't yet.

Just for ***** and giggles, what was Hernandez' wonderlic?

OT Collins still not seen as suspect

Ht / Wt: 6'5' / 320
College: LSU

After his Monday meeting with Baton Rouge police, LSU T/G La'El Collins is still not viewed by investigators as a suspect in the death of Collins' former girlfriend.

Collins "fully cooperated" during his hour-long meeting with police. Collins is expected to be a hot commodity if he's cleared by the investigation. There has never been the slightest indication that Collins was the culprit

Bills and Phins already chatting with him.

Yeah, I read he should be cleared of all charges in just a few days. Sounds like he has alibi's on the night in question. I wouldn't mind sending Munchak down for a visit. I think Collins would excel in the zone blocking system.

Pouncey needs to print some goddamn hats!

The good thing for him, he can pick and choose where he wants to go.

more getting in line

Jameis pushing for La'El Collins to join Bucs
