Do you hire Da' El Collins as a UFA?

He may have gone to the cowboys because they were the closest team to Looseianna that wanted him. He may have also been a fan of the boys and wanted to play for them for some guys that means a lot.

Yes he did BUT found out later that he would NOT be eligible to re-enter next year's draft. He had to sign as a FA either this year or next IF he did not sign during the draft. The benefit of signing as a UDFA is greater in that his contract will come up after 3 years instead of a possible 5 years as a drafted prospect.

That said, I'm sure Jerry invited him to one of his "parties" to sweeten the deal.

That was kind of my point as to why he wasn't drafted. Had he been drafted, his threat carried weight because then he could have not signed a contract and re-entered next years draft. The team that drafted him would have wasted a pick for no reason/gotten nothing in return.

Edit: Oh, I see what you guys are saying. He wouldn't have been eligible to re-enter the draft next year under any circumstances. Hmmm, I thought I read something different.

wonder if this could set a precedent? say some guy publicly states if he's not drafted by the 3rd round that he won't sign with anyone.

yes, he can still be drafted by some team. who would retain the rights to him for what 2 years?

obviously no team wanted to risk that this year.

so he can pick and choose where he goes...then get a bigger contract in 3 years. more money throughout his career, if it's done right?

Now I'm kinda hoping he did kill her...

Ding, Ding, Ding. I have never wanted someone caught as much as now. If he did it I hope they catch him and the 1.7 million all goes to the child.

The funny thing is he said he wanted to START. Not a snowballs chance in hell he starts on that line in Dallas.

The child died, obviously you did not know that. I believe it was the next day or the day after.

btw - it's Steelers Classic day on the NFL Network

I never get tired of watching the Cowboys lose

He gets how many chances and drops it every ******* time.

I didn't. I thought they were able to get the child out after the mom died.

They did and the child lived for a short time just a day or two if I recall correctly, it made the news during the discussion of this prospect and his merits on the football field. He did have some strong supporters on here.

He could have gotten the exact same deal from all 32 teams. Lots of kids growing up dream about playing for the cowboys and I assume he was one of them. I do wonder of there was a wink wink "we will redo this deal after the 2nd season" arrangement made. He definitely made out better by not being drafted late. I do think that word came down from the mountain not to select him.

Yes Buckeye, it was reported (early on) that he would refuse to sign with a team IF they drafted him after round #3 and re-enter the draft next year BUT then his agent got word that he would not be able to re-enter as anything other than a FA next year (leaving him in the same position) so he gets to decide WHO he will sign as a UDFA and gets to renegotiate his contract after 3 years this way.

*2 years as an UDFA. Not 3

While he technically can start renegotiating after year 2, he is obligated to the three year contract. He will become a restricted FA after year 3 regardless UNLESS he has the new contract signed beyond year 3.
