Ding Dong the ***** is dead!!!

Rudolph wasn't showing he could handle pressure. Steelers rushing attack isn't even close to being as good as the Titans. Healthy or not they showed nothing to think they could have won a playoff game. From offensive offense to below the line coaching. Maybe Rud comes around later, but we need a now. A backup QB in the now. There is no substitute for experience and proven game winners.

I think we both know they will be going Ben- Rudolph. Now they might get a veteran journeyman to compete with Rudolph for a three week fill in. But they are not getting a say Bridgewater type that might have upside to be a starter long term. They simply dont have cap room for that. The only way that is happening is if it becomes clear prior to FA that Ben can't go. Then they will have to make very deep cuts and clear enough room for that. I think if they knew Ben was done, they probably don't have much faith in Rudolph as a long term solution at this point.

Not enough cap room isn't enough of a excuse when they manipulate the cap yearly. Maybe Bridgewater would be pricey, perhaps say a Dalton wouldn't be as much....

You let the market settle out and see what you can do. They are in their current predicament year in and year out precisely because they manipulate the cap. I think we all have to realize that it is getting time for a complete reset here. New eyes in the FO and coaching room. And make no mistake about it there will be growing pains and lean years. The question is do you want to keep putting band aids on a really bad cut?

I still think Rudolph has a future in this league.

Let's face it, he didn't have a lot of help from the coaching staff or surrounding cast this season. The playbook was specifically designed for Roethlisberger, has been for years. The plays he likes. The plays he's good at. The whole evolution of the playbook in Pittsburgh over the last decade has been "What makes Roethlisberger happy".

You throw that into an aging line that regressed (like many of us here said could happen). Injuries and revolving door of players at ALL the skill positions - WR, TE and RB's.

And a bad coaching staff that isn't exactly known to "coach up" QB's or make them that much better than what they are.

Some day, Tomlin and his coaching staff are going to have to show me something without Roethlisberger. They have yet to ever do it. I've posted the stats from Tomlin's 34 games with backup quarterbacks (2 FULL SEASONS) and it's not good. The offense struggles EVERY TIME. Everything looks difficult. Scoring 20+ points is a chore. Games all become these war of attrition and defensive contests where if the defense doesn't come up big, we lose.

I don't know. I think Roethlisberger won't be what we are used to. I think the offensive line will continue to get worse. I think the skill position players are okay. This team is going to struggle to get to 2.0 points per possession next year in my opinion. Maybe that will be good enough to get us into the dance and who knows, maybe Roethlisberger has one more magic run in the playoffs.

This window is closing fast. And I don't think Tomlin is good enough for what comes next to be anything more than "good" occasionally.

The Titans were a very mediocre team. In fact with a healthy Rudolph the only difference between the Steelers would be Henry (and I'm not downplaying that). I must have said for about 50 min the Titans cannot win like this. They never risked anything. The truth is that the current Pats were exposed tonight. Brady threw probably no more than 4 passes over 20 yards. There is a limit to what you can do with that. They will undoubtedly reload, most notably at Tight End, but another year older for Tom Terrific. My only regret is they didn't make it to the Ravens who would have crucified Brady. Now I'm down to hopefully the Chiefs over the Rats. Thank God, I think it is finally done.

Tannehill was a first round draft pick. That's a huge difference between what they have and what we ended our season with. Hell their backup is also a first round pick. We had an undrafted Duck.

Good to see the Cheats go down at home. Now we need the Rats and 49ers to lose. Whatever happens after that, so be it.

Easy decision you manipulate it as long as Ben is starting. As your window is open until he is gone. Seeding plays into the formula as well as you need that vet to be there if Ben misses more time. They finally have a.worthy defense take advantage of that as long as you can.

There's a relatively new 30% rule regarding pushing money back that has us toasted in general

Not toasted to the point that it prevents them from continually doing it to bring in vets. That is ongoing as it should be. When the Steelers get to the rebuilding point then they can stop pushing it forward.

Read in the depot that the team can only push about 6M in total without extending any contract so that's pretty shabby

We will see how much an aging line has regressed when BigBen is back healthy. Part of that lines problem is not adequately replacing Gilbert. It is one or two run blockers to being business as usual. Could very well be as simple as replacing the RT and moving Feiler to G.

Then extend contacts. Big Ben alone could free up a boat load of money. And there is others that can be done as well. Basically business as usual.

I can't see any bottom feeder team trading their opportunity to draft Burrows or Lawrencs for any number of #1 picks, those kids are franchise QBs and those don't grow on trees

Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Steeler Nation mobile app

Agreed 100%. The only way the Cheats could deal for the #1 pick is if the Bungles already had their QB of the future, and were not looking to draft Burrows. They don't, and are.

AND yet here we are near the end, 2yrs at best, with our aging QB.

Baltimore............Lamar

Cleveland........... ***** boy

Bungles............. Burrows

PITTSBURGH.... BEN or Red Nose

I realize BEN has been the best of the whole bunch but he is aging and how much does he slip with this year off. He will still be very competitive but for how long ?

One of those if not both was on the OC for calling a ******* 5 step drop back play without max protection.

Our OC needs a lot of "off-season" work. with Yodda. Maybe a mind master JEDI can help Randy acheive his full potential.

Both were deep drops for slow developing plays downfield... Rudolph’s sack rate was one of the best in the league... he was like 6th among qbs that qualified for the leaderboard... Ducks was at 8% or Something... close to Russell Wilson and and Watson .... Rudolph being a statue was sort of cancelled out by his release...

Meh Ben will be back... he will call audibles for protection and route changes at the line and we will be fine... the young qbs either couldnt, or were not allowed to do that

But then again, what does fichtner do? That's why I wouldn't want him even demoted to QB coach because he planned a piece of **** for both rookie QBs

Plays pin the play on the play sheet? I am unconvinced both his planning and play calling is done by blindly picking plays for the plan then randomly calling them during the game.
