The Pittsburgh Steelers have been able to maneuver themselves to be under the projected 2021 NFL salary cap, but that doesn’t mean they can stop there.

They’re set to lose a ton of players to free agency, and they’re going to need as much money as possible. That’s why we expect a few more contract restructures to take place.

One of those happens yesterday with Derek Watt restructuring his deal to save 880,000. It doesn’t seem like much, but every penny counts.

More restructuring to create salary cap space:
#Saints S Malcolm Jenkins: $3.4M of extra room
#Saints OL Andrus Peat: $6M
#Eagles OL Isaac Seumalo: $2.408M
#Steelers FB Derek Watt: $880K

Defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt, and corners Joe Haden and Steven Nelson could also be receiving extensions or restructures. Those could all come in the next ten days.

Talked about D.Watt specifically last night on the podcast as a restructure target. Thought it would be closer to $1M though, but every bit helps!!

Thanks Justin

Every penny does help, but It would be nice if more detail of contract was given. all good

His special teams play is what got that restructure because he was ghosted at FB last season.

Watt is the other Rb that played in a matt Canada system in college ... he absolutely has used the fullback well in his college days at least...
That’s good to know because what we saw last year leaves a lot to be desired. Injuries aside he wasn’t exactly blowing things up in the run game for any back.

Could be he was too busy trying to pick up the DT that broke thru the failed Pouncey/Decastro double team

Watt will be used properly. He is a viable pass catching option from the backfield and could make an impact if he is used properly

I don't know if we'll use him, but Canada was very creative with Aston while at Pitt.

He signed for a little less than Dirty Red did in Buffalo to be a special teams ace, I think he was signed to be a special teams star than FB, last year anyways, maybe that changes with a new OC.

I hope Canada is the real deal for us as there seems to be a lot of hope towards that. I just want Matt's OC skills to get last years OC fiascal forgotten and the way to do that is by some success .

Yeap, imagine a jumbo package with stud RB, Watt, Banner as extra OT, Ebron and Claypool instead of deion cain as the lone wr to keep the deep pass as a real threat

It seems that he isnt the workout warriors his brothers are....

Maybe he needs to get away from the beer and cheese in Wisconsin?
