Free agent RB DeAngelo Williams will meet with the Steelers on Friday.

Williams bottomed out in Carolina last season, averaging a career-worst 3.5 yards per carry. He's a big name though and teams won't have to pay top-dollar to sign him. The Steelers' lack of depth at running back was exposed in January's playoff loss to Baltimore. With workhorse Le'Veon Bell facing a suspension to start the year, it makes sense for Pittsburgh to at least kick the tires on Williams

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell could be suspended up to four games, according to the NFL's new substance-abuse policy. A two-game suspension is standard for a DUI resulting from the use of alcohol. However, Bell's DUI came from marijuana use, so he could be suspended for a longer period of time.

Well why the hell not 4 games, why not make it 8 games and let a team that has a history of cheating go to the championship makes perfect sense to me.

Pierre might be the best screen catching back in the league - the Steelers don't know how to run a screen pass to RB's so he'd be wasted here.

Spike, I think they are making progress. They have got the part about letting the defenders inside the pocket down pretty good.
 
Yeah I don't get it fellas. Why rush to the podium to sign a 32 RB? Kick Thomas' tires at least.
 
Pass on Williams he is just a better built back then Dri, he cant run in between the tackles, we should have gone after Helu but now, I would make a hard run at Powell.
Both Bush and Williams are just west coast backs.
 
One good thing about DeAngelo, he's used to sitting on the bench. He's solid when healthy and not much tread used up with all his down time. I'd still draft a RB though, the more the merrier.

That sucks! Four game for a first tome offender but Blount gets nothing because he just wasn't driving. That's ridiculous! If Bell gets four games than Blount should get 2 games.

Bell is not going to get 4 games. That's just some dumb reporter talking completely out of his ***.
 
As I said in the other thread, this will be a dumb signing. The guy is injured all of the time. Too much risk here. Sign someone else or just draft a RB. My guess is they will draft a RB anyway which will make this an even dumber signing.
 
And, I do understand we will be without Bell for probably the first 4 games of the season. Based on his history and if we sign him, we will be without Williams also. He will be injured once again. Do not sign an aging and very injury prone RB as your back up plan.
 
i disagree.

carolina's OL was ****. he still posted a good average until last season. he's not being signed to be our workhorse for 16 games.

Completely disagree. First of all, he hasn't been injured nearly as much as you think --- before this past season, he only missed 1 game in 3 years. Second, we are forced to sign a vet because of Bell's suspension. We can't go into week 1 with a rookie + Josh Harris + Dri Archer.
 
I always liked Williams. Don't know how much he has left in the tank but the physical he is taking should let them know what type of shape he's in.
